Good Morning to you all-- To-day is Saturday, December 27th_-and, guess what?-- To-morrow is Son#2's Birthday--Woo Woo! And--to-morrow I see that an ice storm is predicted to hit this area----Lordy be! We do get bad weather here in Northern Ontario--
Yes, Thank goodness that we are only old once--After being one of the "older " persons (now!)---It is not easy--I believe that we should be taught "How to be "older than old" --before we even get there, because, you know, it is very hard to be "OLD"--not easy--kinda-like- one has to learn how to make the best of it, and yet, remain independent--kinda shocking really--like--all of a sudden your children want to lock you up--put you in a home-- think that you will begin to fall all over the place--even believe that you will be unable to manage your finances --even when you have done it all of your previous younger years!----- And right now--there are no courses on "managing aging"--So, as Mom used to say, you have to "fake it--till you make it!"---And we all hope that, "the end" is far off --like not going to happen right away-- SOooooooo--Lopez and I are up--It feels cold--with an ice storm on the horizon--
---There are so many "Words of Wisdom"--
#1. Age can teach contentment-
#2.Before you make a fuss, ask yourself first__Is it worth it?
#3.Judge a person by his deeds-not by his words!
Dear Lynda - Deb from GA - my mom is 88. And since my dad passed 11 years ago, I have helped more and more each year with her finances. While she is still independent, in her own home, she gets more and more anxious about the home upkeep and money...I don't know YOUR circumstances with your kids, but I know the worry and love I have for my mom. Whatever I do to TRY to help her, it is meant with love and care for her. I think your kids are the same. They love you and want what is best for you (even if it is THEIR opinion of what is best and not YOURS). It is hard to get old...it is hard to watch your mother get old...It is hard for everyone. They love you. We love you in this cyberworld.
ReplyDeleteoh yu are so right-- I do need help-- and I accept it--Son#2 helps me with the banking and I do appreciate that--It is really for my own protection also as there are so many scams out there--Lynda
DeleteGood morning, sis.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I hope that ice storm isn't too bad! I do not like the thought of you trying to get rid of ice on the car, where you walk Lopez, etcetera.
We are due for snow tomorrow, but my app doesn't say how much is predicted yet,
Happy birthday to your son! He's getting older, too.
Love the photos...especially the one of you, Hannah and the Germans.
Not much going on here. I finally gave away or ate all that lasagna from my daughter's. Still have some of her dessert...peanut butter pie: graham cracker crust and chunky peanut butter topped with (cooked) vanilla pudding. Simple, but amazing.
I need to take 'Becca shopping, too.
Back later, Lynda. Please enjoy your day. Maybe with a storm you can get in some piano, a rest with your book on your tablet and Sushi, etc. {{{HUGS}}} Love, Maggie
well Maggie-- Lopez the bad Chihuahua just bit me-- He ewas hoarding a tiny piece of cheese under him-- and I didnt see it--makes me wonder why I have this guy--Lynda
DeleteAwww, so sorry, Lynda. I would wonder the same.

Hi Lynda
ReplyDeleteHoping the ice doesn't happen. My friend in London, Ontario got that ice yesterday. Not good..caused power outages.
Love the words of wisdom.
Im glad you have a son helping with finances. So many people deliberately prey on elderly people.
Darn Lopez. He can certainly be more than a handful.
Stay warm. Don't go out if ice comes. Waaayyy too risky.
Enjoy your day.
Hugs

ohhhhhh Marge--I do not like ice storms--but--I hear it is coming--I shall just stay in the house -- Dave, Son#1's friend is meeting me for lunch soon--That will be a treat--Lynda
DeleteIt's Kathy. I agree with you - there should be classes or something to help us understand what happens when we get older. My brain still thinks I'm in my 20's but my body doesn't agree! Tomorrow is also my birthday and we are getting a blizzard! Tom was going to take me out for dinner but I guess we better go tonight instead! We have a new Panda Express (Asian food) close to us and they give you so much food that we can eat two meals! That way I won't have to cook on my birthday anyway! Happy Birthday to Son #2! Stay safe tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Lynda! It’s 35 and cloudy with a high wind watch in Ohio! Fake it til we make it is all we can do. Yes, I see Hannah on the edge of the dock. She is all grown up now. I hope Matt has a great birthday tomorrow. Will he fly himself somewhere warm and exotic? With delicious food and a happy meal? LOL! Tell him just predictions from Ohio. He will laugh! You stay warm and safe. Big hugs!
ReplyDeleteBatten down the hatches and stay safe from that ice storm. If that bad Chi has to go, turn him out in the yard. Don't go out on the ice.
ReplyDeleteWe're supposed to have 64 degrees and showers tomorrow, go figure. I'll take it, tho! :)

ReplyDelete"Engaging with Aging" was a blog that I followed for many years. Blogs were written from 2017 - 2023 by a reitred nurse, widowed, no children, living alone in her house built by her spouse and they document her adjustments and findings on physical changes that come along with aging.
I would highly recommend purchasing the blogs some of her friends lovingly put into book form -- two volumes. Her humor and illustrations and practical advice and research on topics is enlightening to me.

Good afternoon, Lynda. I was sick over Christmas, but doing much better now, almost well again. I'm catching up on reading your blogs, which are always great to read.
ReplyDeleteThere are no instructions that come with us getting older. I'm now 90, and although my mind is still pretty darn good, my body isn't. I use a walker to get around in my apartment but at least I'm still living on my own. I don't mind being alone, it's just too bad that I can't take care of a pet, or I'd have a wee dog to keep me company. However, it's enough for me, to take care of myself.
I hope you had a nice Christmas and spent it with one of your sons and their family.
I will read the rest of your posts now, and hope there is one about your Christmas.
Have a good 2026!!
Hugs, Gloria (from Brantford, On) xoxo
Happy birthday to son #2. Hope it is a good one for him.
ReplyDeleteExpexcting snow here tomorrow into Monday. Not apprexciated!
Oh my! Since Jason and I have had our surgeries in July the kids have urged us to sell the house. WE’RE DOING FINE! LOL Yup . . . have to stay functional.
What great words of wisdom today! I am remembering them!
Love the blasts from the past. Yes! That photo of Hannah all there by her lonesome sent the heart a fluttering! Oh my.
HUGS and blessings
