It is good to have friends--- and usually your friends will join you in most things yu do----like singing out your song--so sing your song out loud--Whatta great way to begin a day!
Canadian Thanksgiving is just around the corner--AND I FOUND MY COOK BOOK __TO MAKE PUMPKIN PES__with Whipped cream on top--My tiny kitchen is pretty small to get into the pie business--I may end up buying those pies--We shall see---Do you all make pumpkin pies?------or--do you just buy them??---
We have SO SO much colour still on the leaves--even tho a lot have fallen--I drove out to Son#1's place yesterday, with Lopez----so much colour ----Lopez stands on the arm rest--and looks out the front car window--
How are you all doing?--Are you looking forward to the "wintery weather"?-----I certainly am not-- It means "boots" ,"gloves"--- "boot trays-"------"mittens"----more work--LOLOL----
Here's my two cents: Pumpkin pie is pumpkin pie. The flavor and spices aren't something you want to mess with too much or personalize as you can with, say, apple pie. Although I love the back-of-the-can recipe, one year it was just my husband and I and I "cheated" and bought a frozen Marie Callender's pumpkin pie during a pre-holiday sale. It was delicious! And cheaper than if I'd purchased all the ingredients and made my own. My husband, who loves pumpkin pie, is happy with it, so that's our go-to these days. You still have to bake it, so you get that Thanksgiving scent in the house. Whatever you choose will be appreciated and savored. Hugs. / Leslie
ReplyDeleteMorning Lynda,
ReplyDeleteIt's a rainy, dreary, cool day here. Ugh!
I have dental cleaning in a few hours so I need to venture out. I might try to run a few errands as well.
Oh, maybe sending the cleaning ladies my way when they get done at your house. That would be awesome!
Hubby makes the pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. He likes to make Thanksgiving dinner and I am ok with that. I get a break from cooking so yay!
Have a fun day!
Jackie
Hi Lynda! Buy the pies. My local small store has a little bakery. I get them there. Rainy in Ohio. Not sure I am going to my ID renewal appointment this afternoon. Glad your Sadies were there. Have a terrific Tuesday! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Lynda, you sound chipper today. Will your bereavement group be meeting this week? As for the pies... I assume you will be going to son #1's home for Thanksgiving dinner. If that's the case, bake a pie for that meal, if you enjoy making pies. Buy pies for the other 2 sons.
ReplyDeleteNice that you have a freshly cleaned home. The photos you share are always so nice. Enjoy your day however it unfolds for you.

It's Kathy. I would buy the pumpkin pies! But then, I'm not a fan of baking. Not sure what we will be doing when our Thanksgiving comes around. I wanted to host but with my back, who knows! Yesterday turned out to not be a very good day for me - so I'm hoping today will be better. Still not sleeping very well! But we have sunshine today which is nice to see! Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, sis.
ReplyDeletePies...I used to make them, too. Now I buy them. Do you have a Walmart? Believe it or not, they make their pies like I did! Same taste, perfect amount of spice. The pies from the other places in town all fall short. To make them, I always used the recipe on the back of the Libby's pumpkin can.
Yesterday was a washout for me. Nothing got done. Today is the opposite. I have accomplished.
Still have to take 'Becca to Taco Bell for a job interview.
Our trees are about the same as yours, except only a few are falling yet.
I am posting that first meme for my karaoke friends.
I bet as Lopez gets to know the ladies, he will stop barking at them.
Will check back later, Lynda. Now it's time to snooze with Lucky so I can get up in time for 'Becca. {{{HUGS}}} Love, Maggie
I would buy pumpkin pie, in case others like it, but make apple pie, since everyone will enjoy a piece. Do what you feel like doing, suit yourself.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Lynda. Pumpkin pie is the only pie I make. That is my hubby's favorite pie, and he waits all year for it, even though I offer to make it anytime he wants. I don't like pie of any sort, so if space is the problem, I'd definitely buy the pies. If your kids love your pies, then maybe that would be a treat for them? What ever you decide, I'm sure it will be just fine. :-)
ReplyDeleteMarti here. It's up to you. Do you enjoy baking them? If so, do that. If you don't, just buy them. As for me, I don't bake AT ALL and never have. So I would just take a store bought if it were me. The only times I use the oven are for green bean casserole and corn casserole which I am responsible for at either Thanksgiving or Christmas. When I still had my ex, we made a pork roast TOGETHER, for New Year's, and I put it in the oven. Other than that, I've never before made a from scratch ANYthing. I remember way back, my mom, at times making a from scratch either apple or cherry pie (we had both apple and cherry trees in the backyard that I grew up in, and she had me help, but, as you can see, I'm not a domestic goddess in the kitchen, and neither was she. LOL.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Marti again. And I've never had children, so I've gotten away with not being much of a homemaker type person. As of right now, I have not dusted in a month (since bf and I broke up, because, who comes here?), and my robot vac does the laminate floors. Just a 1000 sq foot condo here. Oh, I'll dust pretty soon, when it starts looking like it needs it. It's not a chore I much enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI have done both . . . made my own pumpkin pie and bought them from Costco. This year, think we’ll skip the pumpkin pie. It’ll probably just be Jason, me and Clara. Bottom line . . . do what will suit you!
ReplyDeleteAwww that’s so nice that you can go to son #1’s place and enjoy the colors w/Lopez.
Cannot say that I can do everything I want to do yet w/my hip, but . . . doing a LOT more than I could even 2 weeks ago. So, progress.
HUGS and blessings

Hi Lynda. Do what makes you happy as far as pie. Pumpkin is pretty standard so buying pie/pies will be fine. Costco and Sam's have very big pies and they taste great. I've heard the frozen Marie Calendar pumpkin pies are good.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your clean house. Nice to get it all done in a few hours.
Cooler and cloudy in St.Louis
..finally cooler. Actually chilly as it went from 90sF to 60sF. Very dry here. No pretty leaves.
Take care. Hugs

I think homemade crust is always better, so make mine, but pumpkin pie is probably fine store bought since the crust is only on the bottom. I always have to laugh when folks say there is no difference between a crust made from scratch and one from the store. I think there is a big difference when it comes to fruit pies, if you know how to make crust. Do whatever makes you happy. With a big dollop of whipped cream on top, no one will know the difference! Susan/Colorado
ReplyDeleteI make the pumpkin pie myself. I go to all the work to make the crust from scratch... because I do it for my son. The filling I follow the old Better Homes and Gardens cookbook recipe. Always gets rave reviews, but then again, my family are all very polite that way!
ReplyDeleteBut as the others all say, "do whatever makes you happy". If it helps keep happy memories alive (as it does for me), making it yourself is a good thing. If it is "one of those years" when it's just too much, you know, the holiday is really about being together, and you'll do just fine with store bought!
Happy Thanksgiving week, Canada!
