When we bought this house, there was a wood, electric furnace, in the basement. Himself, being from Jamaica, had no idea how to load this furnace , and so, 9 times out of 10, way too much wood was put into this furnace, and several times, we even had to deal with chimney fires with Himself on the roof spraying the fire coming out of the chimney.
The wood room sat empty for a few years after we put a new propane furnace in the house. until one day , son#1, moved home from University to be close to a girl friend, and he was downstairs redecorating the wood room, as he had hopes of living down there. I found him, in the wood room, painting it a very bright green.
Nowadays, I try to store my Weed whackers down there-- also light steel hoses and sprinklers--and all my tools that I try to keep away from Himself , who loses so much in his garage in all his boxes.
How on earth did I ever get talking about "the wood room", I'll never know----Tess is doing okay--Himself enjoyed his trip to Rona, a large construction home building supply store----
One more thing---- There have been mice in that wood room--Now if I can just remove the boxes,----
Lord love a duck! One must be a tad tricky when one is married!
I am at the same place in my life except half the junk in the store room is mine, well probably more than half, but then he has his shope and most of his junk is in there. To make a long story short, I have been working on the boxes and progressing finally but still a ways to go. I'll let you know when I get to the last one if I live that long. LOL Take care my friend. I know what you mean about not getting out. I am still not going anywhere. I think I'm going stir crazy sitting in the house.....just looking at boxes.
ReplyDeleteWillow--Yu and I are going thru the same! --It makes me feel better to know that I'm to alone in this!--Lynda
DeleteNice that you took Himself out for some mental health time. We all need to get out now and then, even if it's just a ride around the countryside to distance from those who will not wear a mask.
ReplyDeleteI remember hiding stuff from my husband, too. There's that saying about what you don't know won't hurt you. I am also with you saying folks can go stir crazy sitting inside in the same space for too long. Does one good to get out into the world! Glad the trip was good for you both. {{{HUGS}}}
ReplyDeleteI really am happy that we are all doing the same--hoding our tools from "yu know who"--- thanks for telling me! Lynda
DeleteI’m sure himself enjoyed getting out for a while as it does get boring just sitting around the house all day. We don’t have as many things lying around as we used too since we don’t have much extra room to store it now. My grandson is excited about Halloween now and wants decorations up even as it’s almost 2 months away. We had 5 really nice decorations that we don’t use anymore and he was so excited to get them and we were happy to get rid of them as well. I find that when I get something new I need to throw out the old just to prevent too much clutter. Happy to hear Tess is doing well. 👍
ReplyDeleteI had loads of boxes and around nine years ago I went through them and was shocked that I had saved so much junk. Probably 90 percent of the stuff was either thrown out or sent to Goodwill. My idea of what is important seems to change as I get older. Enjoy your evening!
ReplyDeleteOh yes! Getting rid of things is tricky w/Himselfs. He traveled a lot with his job. We had a couch that was HORRIBLE. It was his from bachelor days and didn't want to part with it. Well we were living in an apartment @ the time. He left on a business trip. I enlisted hte help of a neighbor. We got that couch down to the dumpster. DH got home from his trip and did not even know it was gone. LOL. So anytime there were things to get rid of, it was when he was traveling.
ReplyDeleteNOW, with him being retired, it's a litle trickier. LOL
Barb, yer "himself" is retired too?---- We really areal the same--Lynda
DeleteWe have to still stay here, due to slobs in Texas not doing their proper duty. So tired of staying home…. Glad you got rid of some boxes, feels good. I’ve been donating clothing, nice things. No more going out anyplace nice any more. This Covid May last forever in Texas.
ReplyDeleteWe way up here in Northern Canada even hear about Texas and Covid! --- I am sorry there are "those" people-- Here too, but not as many-Lynda
DeleteI'm a saver....working to get rid of what I don't need (then seem to look for it later & of course, it's gone.) 3 days of really being in the house. My garage door opener sorta broke where no way could I open the garage even manually. Holiday week-end & wasn't necessary to pay extra as an emergency. Contacted repair today & was told if I wanted it done today, be high extra cost so I said I could wait another day. Luckily, mid afternoon, the tech called saying he was on his way & he was able to fix it. I think I do need a new opener as seems this one isn't the right size for the bigger door. Maybe my husband put it up years ago, I don't remember. I have 30 days to think about replacement & if I call them, I won't be charged the fee again to come to the house. Many parts are from old garage doors so I probably will bite the bullet & spend "big bucks" for a new opener & extra parts for the door. Tomorrow, I will be able to leave the house.
ReplyDeleteCaren-Evertyting is "big bucks" now--Lynda
DeleteYes we have 'stuff' everywhere Hubby collects broken appliances to fix and repair, they do come in handy in emergencies.
ReplyDeleteI am trying hard to get the 'stuff' in it rightful place and return other stuff to its as well.
It is a tough job...
I am the collector in my house (got that from my Mother) so I do not get concerned about what my mister hangs on to. Since my Mother moved to her heavenly home several years ago, and remembering what my sisters and I went through to empty her house. I have been working on that little by little. There were five of us cleaning Mom's house. I have one daughter who will face my mess if I don't get it done. I will not do that to her.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got Himself out for a while. I was probably good for both of you. Also glad that Tess is doing well today.
Looking forward to you next blog.
Beth
I am doing the same thing with the stuff that my kds dumped at my home and I enjoy getting rid of unused junk
ReplyDeleteDecluttering and organizing is a big job! Seriously trying to not bring any new into the house without getting rid of something already here.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! A lot of people save extra stuff. I thought it was funny how you hide tools from your husband. I like green too, but it's a bold colour, not everyone likes it.
ReplyDeleteI have to hide why I use in the way of tools coz Himself never puts anything back--Lynda
DeleteI am so lucky that my himself is a purger like I am so we always get rid of any stuff we don't use! Good luck with all of it
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to go through another "pile" of papers today, to file or shred or whatever, so yes, the whole idea of getting rid of boxes "speaks" to me, too.
ReplyDeleteHang in there... early or late, or early the next day, it's always good to see you posting!
Bi Barb--Yu re so good-- The Time of the blog does not matter--Thank yu-- Lynda
DeleteAs I sat down to read this today I was thinking about clearing out some of the “stuff”and how much has accumulated in the 36 years since we built and moved into this place! It is challenging! I work on it a bit at a time. Funny, but the wood room is where I’ve made my best progress! ( I try not to even think about the attics!) And I did get out to a PARADE the other day! It felt a bit like old times. 🎶And the pipe band🎶, and kilts!💙🥰
ReplyDeleteWe must all have a "WOOD ROOM" eh?--LOL--Lynda
DeleteOh, good deal getting out of the house!! When I stay home too long without at least a trip to the "inside" store I notice I get a bit blue, and sit around more ignoring the sorting and cleaning I need to do.
ReplyDeleteI am afraid that if my husband goes to his heavenly home before me I will be stuck getting rid of everything in our basement. There is an ad on tv where the men come with a truck and you just point and the junk disappears. Right! They would take one look and run for the hills.
ReplyDeletei too would love to purge over half the stuff we have. But alas, with COVID I am scared to get rid of something for fear that I might not be able to buy something new. our stores run out of the weirdest things from horse wormer to tartar sauce
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's time to let Sushi play down there! She can scatter those mice maybe! I love the wood room story! That's delightful! I would have loved to see that old green furnace!
ReplyDeleteIt's the time of year for mice and moles to come in the house . We live near apple trees and next to us is a farm . So , catching mice seems to be part of life this time of year . Take care .
ReplyDeleteSeems that is one big project to tackle. I do understand not wanting the clutter. How is it we accumulate so much stuff? Seems like I clean it out and bam it's back again. One day I'll get a handle on it.
ReplyDeleteLynda, I quit asking David. If there is a piece of plastic/paper/box/
ReplyDeletewhatever, he thinks we might need it ... might be 50 years from now..I kept telling him someone would have to go thru all this crap he has
accumulated. So I quit asking. I just throw it in the donation box and he never misses it. LOL
I am trying to catch up on your blogs. My computer is giving me a hard time about it though! I heard about Tess from Becky (Thoms1) so I knowhow hard it must be for you and Beau. I better get busy while this machine is cooperating. (((HUGS)))
