Yikes---- Downsizing is scary!

Yu know, I think I could have a cow--- They seem like a pretty docile animal--I remember as a kid, visiting Grampa  in Port Perry.  He had a field beside his house, (in the town)-which he somehow leased out the field to a farmer, who kept his cows in Grampa's field. I remember sitting on the edge of Grampa's porch, which hung over the field, and wishing I could go into that field and pet the cows. Mom had told us, (and pretty stern too!) that we were never to go in that field!--

To the left of that house  was where  we used to dangle our feet, watching the cows. The 2 people you see , if you look closely, where Grampa and Gramma, waving good bye to us , as Dad drove out the driveway.--Note the roof around  porch. This house is still there---  There are no fields however close to the house, as that land has been sold, and there are more streets close by.

Years and years later, we went back to search for Grampa's house ----  You can see the houses built to the left of it--

I have no idea how I ever got into talking to yu all about cows--It has been a quiet morning-- looks like rain --and I hear that we are in for colder days ---  Canada had an election yesterday, and  the Gov't has stayed pretty much the same ---- AND----I did get a call from Tess' Breeder and they will have puppies ready to go in January--- BUT-----we have spoken for "Lopez" and will go to get him Oct 3rd-- a wee little fella--a Chihuahua--- of which I know nothing at all about the breed , except it might be less fur to float around, and less grooming and easier to transport places--

Lord love a Duck! You might say, WE ARE REALLY DOWNSIZING!

  1. That's a wonderful, perfect grandparent home! I hope our grandkids remember visits with us in our little ole bungalow with as much fondness as we remember our visits to our grandparents! Your grands are going to have so many memories from visiting you on the lake.

  3. Wonderful pictures of your grandparents home. It’s nice to have those memories and the pictures to show your grandkids. My grandparents were in New Brunswick near the highway to the ferry to PEI. Last time we were out there in 2009 they had put a roundabout in and of course there was the bridge to PEI. We looked and couldn’t see the house which had probably been demolished for new housing. Not too much longer for your new puppy! 👍

  4. What a lovely house and land your grandparents had! Such great memories to linger in your mind.
If you get such a tiny dog, there may be some tripping going on, as they like to be underfoot. Himself will have to be extra careful. For heavens sakes, read up on that dog breed. Abd do you enjoy a lot of barking at every thing? Good luck…

  5. Our home in Vermont looked very similar to your grandparents house and the day we got married there the cows came to the fence to see what was going on. So is the new dog going to like "hooking" it to the road and back?

  6. I don't know that you'd want a cow....many years ago, we rented a house in the country & neighbor had small herd of 20 or so cows. He was the fire chief & seemed to spend more time in town than at home tending his herd. Often I would look out the window & yes, cows looking in at me. I didn't have a manicured lawn for sure & they weren't eager to see me open the door. I think the new puppy is going to be your best friend & being small, surely less work...hair etc.

  8. Nice home your grandparents had. Will be fun having a new dog. They are definitely yappy compared to a German but it will be a playmate for Beau.

  9. Perhaps even Downward Dog Sizing. From shepherd to a Chia Pet...that's a real stretch. LOL.

  11. Here's a link for you that will tell you more about your new precious puppy: https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/chihuahua/ You will need to copy and paste it into your browser address bar.

We have it colder, too. Fall is definitely here. I love it, but I don't look forward to what follows!

    I remember my grandpa and step-grandma's house, too. He had a small farm, and an old fashioned gas station that he owned. When we visited, we were allowed to to get a cold bottle of coke in the very old fashioned coke cooler machine. {{{HUGS}}}

  14. I grew up with a chihuahua , he had a real attitude problem , but, we loved him just the same . He would bite us at any given time . But we loved him . One time my Dad got up in the middle of the night with a whole in the big toe of his sock . Our chihuahua bite his toe and wouldn't let go . So Dad flung the dog and his foot in the air . The dog went flying across the room . My sister and I were mad at Dad for hurting the Dog . But my poor Dad got no sympathy . I hope your dog has a friendlier personality than ours did . Take care .

  15. Cows are great from a distance. I wouldn't want to have to muck out the barn or do the daily milking(s). Here's to the arrival of your new fur baby.

  16. Sad day for my GD and her family. Yesterday they had to let their darling persian kitty Odin go over the rainbow bridge. He was 9 years old and had developed kidney failure, not eating or drinking but he still loved to purr. How does she explain to their 3 year old daughter that Odin was sick and won't be coming back home?

  17. That's a lovely house!

For sure Lopez will be a lot more portable than a German, as in Shepherd!

How exciting you'll have an addition to your fur baby family!

  18. Oh, I enjoy seeing old pictures of family homes and folks. I hope Lopez turns out to be a great little puppy for you.

  19. Congratulations on the new little one, Lopez! I think you will be surprised at the intelligence of the Chic. We have a long coat bug Chi that is quite the shedder and the one that we lost last year was a smaller red coat and she also shed. But they are fun and active and definite lovers. Easily trained. I am kind of looking for another one so Daisy will have a companion again.

  20. Good evening, Lynda. Beth here. So your new little fur baby is Lopez. Quite a suitable name for Him. I look forward to seeing a picture of him.
I enjoyed the pictures of you grandparents home, especially the porch. I would love a porch like that.
Have a good rest of your evening.

  21. Your grandparents had a lovely home.
No thanks on a cow for a pet.
Lopez..that REALLY is downsizing. You might still decide to get a German Shepard puppy too since some are coming available. Never know lol.
Enjoy the new down sized puppy. Wont be much longer. Looking forward to seeing a picture.
    Hugs

  24. I am just so happy for you and for little "Lopez" because he's getting a great home with you and Fred and don't be surprised if you see Fred cuddling him all the time, they're just that type of dog, tiny & loveable! What colour is he, Lynda? My Dolly was tan and my Snooks was white with some tan on her face. You'll love him! Memories - my sister had a tobacco farm when I was a youngster and always had horses, cows, pigs & chickens in the barn. A little 'corell' (sp) was beside the barn and I'd perch on top of the wooden fence just to sit & look at the cows & horses when they were put outside. Isn't it wonderful to have such nice memories? Hugs!

  25. So great you were able to find the house! I've been on searching efforts for families "old homes" and they weren't found or were empty lots.
