The Trials and Tribulations of Moving--

Good morning---  Holy Cow! I thought everyday would get easier---It's more difficult! ----  All your cards, such as a SCENE card---- are pass coded--- Can I remember the passwords?---  NO-O-oooooooo-----  It's in my book--but--where is the book?--- (Son #2 will know what to do--- He does know everything----- Praise be to God!!  How on earth could  I ever have done this move without him???---)

I went to take Lopez out last night also, and did he want to go?---  (I have to treck around behind our building--over the ice )---and Lopez thought that wasn't where he wanted to go--on a leash--- He is not used to a leash---  never had a leash on him---so, refused to do his business-- then when I brought him inside, he  wanted to bite me--wasn't ready to come in---  Lordy Be!

And , what do I put in the blue bag--or the clear bag, for stuff I throw away-?--  How many times has son #2 told me?--Yu see, we do not recycle at home--well where we used to call home?--

The pet store is close to here--so is M@Ms --and it's a 24 hr grocery--Foodland--but -- which direction is that?--  If I go the wrong way, will I be able to find our place ever again?--

Lordy Be-----Moving isn't all it's cracked up to be--maybe in time, stuff will register in my brain--  Oh I hope!! -----  We still have 1500 boxes --everywhere--a few lamps--no light bulbs-- we seem to run out of milk and cream every hour-and tangerines--  but-----  its Xmas soon---  plus --someone has a Birthday  in a couple days --I will REALLY be 83 --(thought I already was )-

So, I hope my mind returns ----soon----It must be the move ---I hope !----  LORDY BE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lynda, just take it slow. You probably have to do that. The photos look like you're getting things done. It WILL eventually be the way that you want it to be. It's hard to wait, though, huh? Especially when you have to do all the sorting and unpacking yourself.
Thank the Lord for your son!
It's good you have 24 hour stores, too.
Do you have a camera on your phone? Take a photo from your front door in the direction you have to go...you can implant it it your memory. Label the photo, "Grocery," "Vet," "Hardware," or whatever. That may help. If it confuses you, forget it.
We have snow, freezing rain, ice, etc. forecast for today. I may go nowhere...even karaoke. We'll see...
Talk to you soon. Know that even Lopez will adjust. {{{HUGS}}} Love, your sis, Maggie

  4. It's Kathy. I'm glad Son #2 is there to help you. Moving at any age is rather overwhelming, but in your 80's & 90's, I'm sure it's difficult. Your brainpower will return. I feel like I've lost a part of my own with this surgery and long recovery time. Some days are really kind of great, but others not so much! I went to a holiday party last night and asked my husband to drive me - I was just too tired to trust myself driving. I love the photos, looks like a lovely place. Give yourself a little grace, Lynda. I know you'll have it settled just like you want it in time. Be sure to let yourself have some down time too! Our doggies like their routine. I'm sure little Lopez is not happy about having his routine changed up. I know Daisy wouldn't be. But he has his mom and that's what is really important! Take care.

As a former manager used to repeatedly tell me when I got anxious about implementing new strategies to improve production in our area, "Susan, be patient, after all Rome wasn't built in a day!"

Make sure to get some piano time each day when possible.

  6. Lynda, you are doing well and it will all come together. Your living room looks big. When you feel like you can't look at one more box, stop what you're doing and play the piano. It's good for the soul.

  7. Love the idea of taking photos as you go on your travels to the grocery store, etc. til you learn you way. And getting a GPS app on your phone. Very helpful.

Packing and then unpacking, seems endless . . . til it ends! And it will. You’re doing well. It’s not easy!

Just like you and Himself, Lopez has to learn his new surroundings, too, and being on a leash. New experience for him on top of everything else. He’ll adjust. But Lopez, NO BITING!

HUGS to you, my dear. You are Wonder Woman!

  8. Hi Lynda. You ARE making progress...we can see a lovely floor. It's big and bright at your house. Lovely
One box at a time and more has to "go" there isn't room. Matt is a blessing.
Use Google..just ask Google for directions to Foodland or wherever you're going and it will give you turn by turn directions.
    Lopez...no biting...he'll adjust
Take breaks. Play your piano. We are all rooting for you. You CAN do it!
Heavy rain and cold in St.Louis but it's not snow or ice. Thanks for taking time to reach out.

  10. Hey Lynda, Marti here. If I'm in a place that I don't know, I always just use my phone GPS. I imagine your new car also probably has Apple Car Play and you can use that, as well. If you don't use GPS, have your son show you how! I wouldn't be able to get anywhere without it. Of course, where I live, I only go about 3 or 4 different roads, so really, I can't get lost. Compared to big Columbus Ohio it's so much easier here. 21st St., Mt. Vernon Rd., Main St., and Church St. LOL. You'll get it down! Like people said, give yourself grace. As for the dog, I'm not sure. Maybe you'll have to lay down a pee pad or something if he doesn't take to the leash. My dog would run off if I didn't walk him on leash, and I live off a street with big trucks whooshing up and down at all hours, and a busy main street going the other direction. He would get creamed.

  12. Poor little Lopez! It's just terrifying for him, and he has only his voice and his teeth to defend himself with. Be patient with the little fella and take it slow. One disadvantage of chihuahuas is that they have those needle-sharp teeth their whole lives. It's OK, Lopez... trust your Hu-mom! She will keep you safe.

It will all be OK in the end!

  15. Hi Lynda: Relax and be calm. It takes time to figure everything out and unpack. You place looks big and bright which is good. And Lopez has never known anything besides where you were so he has to get used to the change too. Thank goodness Matt is there to help you get settled and is close by when you need help. And it's early days. So relax and play the piano to help calm down. Hugs Brenda

  18. You sound a bit frazzled, but I'm reading this on Sunday so hopefully you have been able to destress just a little.

The picture shows you've really made some progressk, even though you don't feel that way.

As for the blue bag/clear bag stuff ... that takes a little getting used to. We recently got a new green colored trash bin, and all that goes in it is organic waste ... foods, small yard trimmings. Fats and oils need to be put in a sealed bag within that bin ... Thankfully the trash collection place gave us a laminated card explaining what goes in the green bin and what does not. I attached it to the front of the refrigerator until I get the system firmly fixed in my brain.

I don't have a wonderful sense of direction, so have always been a plan ahead person for trips using a map, then Google map print outs. As some have said, I use a phone app that tells me step by step how to get somewhere. I turn it on every time I go somewhere in the car even if I know exactly how to get there; that's what it took for me to get used to listening to what it said. It took me a little while, but I'm able to use it pretty well. Thankfully, you said where you've moved to is fairly small, not a big city ... so you'll get used to your regular route. In the meantime, maybe you could write down step-by-step directions to the stores and back home in large print, and keep them in your car?

And Lopez must be a little freaked out too, in a new place and new rules like the leash. Probably as you all relax a little bit and are calmer and have routines he can recognize he'll do better. It must be scary for him.

I'm sure your brain is just fine! This has been a huge undertaking, moving so far after living a certain way for many decades. The level of stress in all the prep and being the one who has to figure it all out (even though Son #2 is helping so much) is huge!! When I'm stressed and rushed I don't think as well as when I'm doing my regular stuff, and I'm younger and responsible for less than you are.

Hugs to you, and happy birthday!
