Good morning--- I sat down to blog last evening--but was just too tired I guess-- so I closed everything and prayed that you all would understand- Son#2, Himself, and I, were at the bank, for the 3rd time---
Too bad we never tried to "downsize" years ago--It might've been so much easier--- plus we would not have had so much "stuff"-- I believe now, people in their 60's really should "downsize"-plus their investments would've been higher also-- Live and learn I guess--- Too bad also that we do not go this life a couple of times--The 2nd time we would get it right--Right??
So . what has happened over the past couple of days?--Well, I call Lakefield, a "Seniors " place to live, for sure! Every Senior should live here, because thee are "Seniors housing "everywhere-- What looks like a house, if you look closely, is really 3 or 4 houses under one roof--and there are several "Community Living"--Care places , in various subdivisions--They have garages, are one level, and there are paved walking trails everywhere-- The stores are within walking distances--- For example I will be walking to my new Hair Dresser shortly--The weather is not as harsh as it was in Elliot Lake--a tad milder--and the people residing here are very friendly.--Sushi is settling in--- beginning to come out of her cat tree---which is in our bedroom--
And--I finally called in a person to help me with ideas of where to place stuff---- moving from such a large home , to an apartment is not fun! She probably will suggest we get rid of more stuff--A very nice part of "Seniors Housing" is that every unit has all top notch appliances--IN the Apartment! --No shovelling snow---nor grass to cut either!
Is everything "Hunky Dory"??? (Dad's expression)--well --the apartment is an apartment---(much smaller than our house)-but, really , all we need---We are allowed pets--- we have to "recycle", which drives me crazy trying to remember "what" goes in "what bag"--but, eventually I will "get it"-- I hope!---- And you know what?----We now have investments ----for "our older than old" age-------
Do I miss Elliot Lake?--Yes--big time --but , in this apartment -(only 7 apartments)--3 of the apartments are renters from ELLIOT LAKE-- How cool is that!
I miss all of you however---plus--all my friends in Elliot--but--Himself is so much better --I guess just seeing more people , having Son#2 drop in with wife, and getting out more to see the world, has helped him 100% -- I believe he is even "normal"--at 96 yrs--- I do believe we are learning new things everyday here----AND IT RELLY DOES HELP __BALANCES WITH ALL THE THINGS WE KEEP FORGETTING__LOL----- Maybe that's the way it is supposed to be in our "older age"!!!
Yay that you found a hairdresser close by; being able to walk when the weather is good is a plus!
ReplyDeleteYes--am happy with everything--Lynda
DeleteIt's Kathy. It sounds like you are adjusting well. Good idea to have someone come in and help you arrange things. Yes, we really need to downsize even though we're well past our 70's. Yesterday I had to look in a container I had packed up with a few of my children's clothes from long ago and also some of my clothes as a young child (my mom never heard of downsizing - it took me 6 months to go through all her things and I had help!). I didn't have the item my SIL asked about but what I saw was a lot of very OLD clothes that were yellowing. That's the first container I'm tackling once I'm healed enough. My problem is my husband who never wants to throw anything away!!! I'm giving us until the end of 2024 to relax and get through the holidays - then we're tackling the basement! Enjoy your day!! Oh, and it makes me very happy to hear that himself is adjusting so well and loves the new place! Life will be so much easier for you.
ReplyDeleteand KATHY--THE HAIR DRESSER DID A GOOD JOB-- ONE LESS WSORRUY--= I SHALL GO BACK TO HER -- Lynda
DeleteI couldn't be happier for you and Himself. I had a knee replacement seven weeks ago and not being able to get outside and drive or walk was terrible. I can understand how happy Himself is to get out and see things and feel included. Also having visits from Son #2 and his wife is an unexpected treat. Enjoy the visit to your new hairdresser.
ReplyDeleteAnd--the hair dresser worked out-- amazing--I like what she did-- Lynda
DeleteHi Lynda! Big hugs from Ohio! I am super happy Himself is doing so well! Walking to your hairdresser? That is fantastic!! Glad you are getting help with setting up the apartment. That will get you relaxing sooner. Chin up! You’re doing great. Proud of you!
ReplyDeleteOh man--=was worried about a new hair dresser but--I like what she did-Lynda
DeleteGloria Bye
ReplyDeleteGloria---Everyday seems better ---- sad yesterday -wondered if I did the right thing--Today is going well--found a hair dresser who did a great job--Lakefield is very nice!-Lynda
DeleteBTW, I forgot to say Happy Birthday! How wonderful to have someone come in to help you organize! I would love that as I still feel unorganized after our downsized move in August! Happy Friday and a very Merry Christmas to you and the family from San Francisco! Alice
ReplyDeleteAlice--YU downsized too??--- Are yu happy that yu did??---Merry Christmas to you also--- Lynda
DeleteSo nice to 'hear' from you, sis. Lakeville sounds a bit like Faribault...lots of senior living places. Places for independent living, assisted living memory care...even hospice. We have a karaoke friend moving for that today. She will be in the building directly across from us. Our building is for independent living seniors.
ReplyDeleteI have plans to consolidate a couple of my boxes. They have things my kids would like to have. I'm also putting lots of things down on our 'give away' table i n the Community Room.
Good you have someone coming to help you do it.
We have a great Nature Center nearby, too.
I've been busy today. Still haven't got everything ready for Christmas. The crowds are heavy. I couldn't face anymore today.
I'll be back, Lynda...oh, and I LOVE that last meme! {{{HUGS}}} Love, Maggie
It was a good day Maggie--I even had my hair done--walked there---- plus found a whole box of laundry packed in a box--mustve been the last box the movers packed-Funny eh??--- Nice to have a washer and dryer in this apartment---Lynda
DeleteLove that you are settling in. You give me a lot to think about, as far as down-sizing is concerned, but I kind of went in the other direction, taking on Ember last Easter. She is a handful as a 10 1/2 month old puppy! In some ways she is helping me downsize, because... well, she sometimes makes decisions about what must go!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad there are such helps for folks who are "getting up there" (which includes me).
Well it seems like a real Srs community --and I like that! Yu can still downsize with Ember--Most of the Srs here seem to have big dogs--I love all the very old, but very nice homes here also--and lotza water around---settled a very long time ago--- Lynda
DeleteSo very glad that you (AND HIMSELF) are adjusting nicely to your new home, and even Suchi and hopefully Lopez, too. Glad you have someone to help you decide what to keep, or not, and where to place things. I am sure I'd need that help, too.
ReplyDeleteGlad that the hairdresser is so close you can walk AND you will go back there! Awesome.
And best of all, you seem to be getting a lot of help from Son #2 and DIL. Sooooo nice.
Well, cruising into Christmas in a new place, settling in . . . not having to worry about snow removal, etc. Wonderful.
hugs and blessings

Barb --It is the best ever!--no snow to shovel--- and its definitely not as cold --Lynda
DeleteHi Lynda, how cool is it that you can walk to the hairdresser...that's neat. Your new town sounds ideal. I'm really happy Fred is liking it there. Fred can get out and be around others plus he sees Matt often.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to get help putting stuff away. Unfortunately, you only have limited storage space so more has to leave.
It's cold with strong northern winds in St.Louis. burrrrr
Sushi seems to be adjusting.
Thanks for updates. Stay strong and positive
love and hugs from St.Louis
Marge
Hi Lynda: I'm so happy that everything seems to be working out for you guys. And being able to walk to so many places is good - you'll still get lots of exercises without shoveling snow or working in the garden.I'm glad someone is coming to help you get rid of things and get organized. I also had to downsize big time and some things you just can't think about too much. And your kids probably won't want your stuff so it's better to get rid of it now. Recycling is such a pain. I have 3 different bins that have to go out. You'll get used to everything in time. At least you got a hairdresser close by! Hugs Brenda
ReplyDeleteIt’s so good to hear how well you and your dear hubby are settling in after your move 🪴 Carol in FL
ReplyDeleteRD from AZ here I am so glad that you are settling in more and that himself is doing so well Walking is great and no snow to shovel and no grass to cut my oh my what will you do with all that extra time but the best part is that you seem to be happy and that is awesome the hair dresser being a good pick was just awesome I am taking your advice and downsizing now I have moved several times but just in case I will be better prepared this time
ReplyDeletehave a blessed day you are a true inspiration to me
