Himself , Grocery prices and a new hat!

I am late blogging--because I went to "No Frills"------I went at about 8-30am and I hope that I avoided the Delta Variant. I wore the mask and stayed as far as I could from everyone. There were no line-ups--both going in, and coming out.

I haven't been in that store, in about 3 weeks-- and my list was as long as your arm!--(Mom's expression!)-AND---the bill was over $300--Lordy Be! -- Doncha find that every week they food prices have climbed?--I believe that is the most we have spent--and that was without meat---for 2 people!--AND--- there is nothing that we can do about it, other than eat out--- but I'm sure that would cost so much more!
I also stopped and bought Himself a new hat, as I had to throw out the old one, as he was looking like a "street person"--as I was asked for ID the last time he came in a store with me---

"ID?" I asked the young clerk, "I've never been asked for that in here,"and then I looked at Himself, as he was wearing his green  work outside clothes with the horrible bad hat that looked like it had been thru the Boo-er War!---

His response was , when we got back to the car, "There is nothing wrong with my hat"-----as it was drooping over his face.

Anyway, all is good now!----We now have the new "Chapeau ", and enough groceries to last a few days--I hope! --And-----  we have nice fresh bananas--

It is extremely hot here-- over 30C---Lord Love A Duck! I hope that you all walked early--

-but---they need a new hat--I told Himself that! --What would he ever do without me? I told Himself that too!😁😁

  1. It's Willow, Yes prices are out of this world. I am still oredering my groceries on line although I did go to Walmart the other day long enough to buy us each some new socks. What is it with men. Ladies love getting new things, men seem to think old things are good enough. It is hot here too. 30C today and calling for 32C tomorrow. I am staying inside where it is cool. Take care, wear lots of sunscreen.

  2. I'm glad you were able to update your hubby's look! That salesperson sounds really rude. Here's hoping things can get back to normal in the shops! Are there any grocery delivery services in your area? I started using one and it's nice to get things delivered to your door.

  3. I agree about the prices. I'm buying the same stuff I did a year ago, but it seems like I'm paying about $20-$30 more.

We have a nice break from the humidity today, but it's supposed to come back tomorrow, so I'm glad I got the jogging intervals done this morning. Wishing you and your Himself a good weekend! And to keep that virus FAR away from you!

  4. Himself is very lucky to have you! I agree that food prices have skyrocketed since the pandemic started. Even just stocking up on fresh fruits and vegetables weekly is costing $40 to 50 for just two of us. Much more when we have friends or family over for dinner. I heard our inflation rate for July was over 3%. No way will my pension be going up that much! It’s very hot and humid here too but we just got an invitation to my daughter’s for a swim and dinner so that should cool us down some. Enjoy the lake today and himself’s new hat! 👍🎩

  5. Sounds like Himself was attached to that old hat - I hope you detached him before tossing it out!

    😉

Yes, the grocery bill climbs, doesn't it? I have been shopping for less prepackaged convenience and dividing larger packages of fresh meats and bread for freezing. Also, many things keep well beyond their "best by" date.

  6. I'm sorry you got challenged, but your story is really funny! And now Himself has a new hat! That's terrific!! Yes, he is very fortunate that you are there for him in every way! Yep, I'm also not crazy about prices. I go at 6 am when there's hardly anyone in the store except the stockers...and they are everywhere, clogging every aisle, but I can navigate pretty well because I'm not competing with a bunch of other shoppers! And the store folks all wear masks again! So I feel confident because I am also masked!

  7. I think you should just accept that you were asked for ID because you looked too young to be there during the senior hour. :) I've noticed prices are going up also, but I still purchase my fresh fruits and veggies, because the cost to my health... But, I'm working to do a meatless meal here and there and when I eat the portion of meats I do eat it stretches a long way.

Yay that you found a new hat for your husband! I have to watch it because I find I'll wear things perhaps past their okay time ... alright for home, but not for a grocery run.

    Happy weekend!!

  8. You gave such a BIG GOOD SMILE! Men seem to all be the same. My hubby doesn't care much about how he looks but if he's comfortable. It's so funny. Glad you ran all the grocery shopping early in the morning before the temps were higher and more people out. So great for the nouveau chapeau ;-) I miss the emoticons!
    Have a great Saturday!

  9. Hope himself realizes how lucky he is to have you! The prices seem to increase practically every week. Even Walmart can't keep up to date. On the shelf it is one price and when you check out it is higher. Supposed to stay hot for the next week. Hope Tess is doing ok.❤

  10. Oh my heavens! Wanted apples. Honeycrisp apples, $5.00/lb. SERIOUSLY!? Nope, couldn't do it. Green peppers, 2/$5.00. AGain SERIOUSLY? Nope. Couldn't do it. Replan supper.

I don't mind paying a LITTLE more for healthy foods (if you don't you end up paying it in medical bills for illness anyhow!), but . . . that was exorbitant. couldn't do it. At leas bananas wew on sale .. . 49 cents/lb.

Looking like we're going to start eating more meatless meals.

Ah well, glad Himself how has a new chapeau! LOL What would they do w/o us to keep them spruced up.

  11. Seems like I've come full circle from skimping on everything while on a tight budget as a single female to now skimping on everything while rates and prices soar while working toward spouse's second upcoming retirement. This is not what I thought "the circle of life was referring to."

    Have a great weekend.

  14. I agree even over here in Australia the grocery stores are making the most of it. It may be hard to get items I am not sure but it is even harder to get the money to pay for things these days :)

Great blog love the way you write :)

  15. Good Morning Lynda,

Yes I miss Spark People also. I find I am not drinking enough water. I am not keeping track of my food and I am not walking as much as normal. I am on Spark 360 but it just is not the same. I miss the the over 60's group. I haven't gained any more weight which is surprising. I don't buy icecream for home just get it at McDonald's when I get the urge. It is hot and muggy here also, maybe that is why I haven't walked that much!
I am getting my rugs cleaned tomorrow-so excited since they didn't get cleaned last year. Hope you have a great Sunday, stay cool. HUGS

  16. Happy new hat!
Groceries are getting dearer here in Spain too, eating less meat helps and we feel better for it.

  17. I’m glad I have my garden produce these days to help pare down the grocery bill. And it always tastes sooo much better! Too bad I can’t grow a banana tree. Eating out is crazy. I took my daughter and granddaughters out to lunch and $150 ! Everything costs more these days. But it was a special lunch. We were on our way to the airport to return them to their western home, until next year- God willing. Glad you got Himself a new hat. Hope he enjoys wearing it! Enjoy these late days of summer 🥰
