Suffering from "Spark Withdrawal"

My eating habits are not doing well! --Every day, I say that , "This is the day that I will stick to an eating plan"-----  It hasn't happened yet!---  Somewhere between morning and  when I sit in that easy chair after supper, some very calorific food appears in my hand-- And I just had it under control. with Spark!

So, I know it is time , to take this problem under control. I know it begins with , DON"T BUY THE BAD  HIGH CALORIE UNHEALTHY FOODS--Lord love a Duck! --- I know better ---

Perhaps I should open a scribbler and write down what goes in the mouth--even for a few days ----That might solve this--hopefully! --There is no problem with exercising-- I enjoy walking. because I take my music, or the dog, or walk on the Dreadmill with the TV----Maybe  eating to music--  ??????--NO, definitely not!

I have Sadie the cleaning Lady waiting in the wings here--- (who is really me!)-  and Greta, the gardener is ready to roll outside (me too!)- so I best  get off of here.

I must buy more lettuce-- maybe put a few tiny tomatoes beside my chair after supper--

Is anyone else, having "Spark Withdrawal"?-----hopefully not!

  1. Some people use a notebook to track their food intake. Whatever is going to work for you, find it and use it every day! You can do this, I know that you can, because you’ve done it before! We are still here with you!

  2. Hopefully you can find what works for you to control the eating. It's something I have to be mindful of every single day. Hopefully you quickly find a method or platform that works for you.

I'm pretty careful to keep a running list of groceries so that it's easier to resist buying the things that I overindulge in. Fortunately my daughter showed me how to keep a list on my phone several years ago so it's easy to keep the list, and I always have it with me.

I'm not really having an issue with missing Spark, but I started blogging and logging elsewhere when they announced the shutdown and switch which excluded many, only checking in to read blogs of people I followed (such as you.)

Happy Friday to you ... and the gardener, and the cleaning lady!! Hope your piano lady gets to stop by today.

  3. Tracking your food is a good idea Lynda. I find if I know what I’ve eaten for the day I’m not as likely to snack at night. I’ve put on 2 pounds that need to come off but I’m not getting enough exercise to help. Cooler weather will help I’m sure! Good luck with your chores today and have a great weekend! 👍🐕‍🦺

  4. Hey Linda, Willow here. You have the right idea...you bite it, you write it. Maybe just the thought of having to write it down will deter you from eating it. Do you remember "The Michelin Man" or "The Pillsbury Doughboy". Every time I see a picture of them I am reminded of what happens if you eat too much ice cream. Best to just leave it in the store.

  5. You are doing a great job! Being aware of little slip-ups is huge, it means you can stop them. I think logging what you eat in a notebook is a great idea.

  6. Yep! Definitely understand the problem. I’m working on that, too.

  7. I used to have paper menus from the dietitian, easy to fill out, but after that, just use small notebooks. I buy a lot of them at the “back to school” paper sales. Interested to look back and see how you change. It does work as a reminder, but perfection in eating is a myth. There are hidden reasons we eat what we eat. Usually it’s a comfort thing. Anxiety. There are too many Triggers now. Just look at the news!

  8. I understand the problem but Spark "dying" was too big for the rebellion eating for me. I went straight into "bargain with God" mode, taking better care of me for the 72 days leading up to the lights going out.

However, now is a dangerous time, as we adjust to new tools. It did not take long for me to adjust to Cronometer. And I'm still using it.

Hang in there, my friend! You're too precious to slide backwards! Hugs!

  9. This is a Lifestyle, not a diet! It has to be maintainable for Life! With treats built into the plan. I must admit I do track what I eat each day. If I didn’t , I would never realize all that Ive already had and go for something more. Keep hoofing and being mindful! You got this! 🥰

  10. If tracking has helped you in the past, then go for it!! Tracking your food - and maybe even your exercise - for a few days will help get YOU back on TRACK. What else has worked for you? there might be some more good ideas for you on that list!! I miss SP too - but a little less each day. We know what makes us feel good (plus all the whys and hows) - and we deserve it!!

  11. Yes I have a Spark Withdrawal every day...I really miss it, I know that I could to Spark360 but I just don't like it that much. I really miss seeing blogs from others. Some make me smile and some gave me new ideas like your blogs do by helping me make good decisions on what I eat.
    Have a great Friday

  12. Hi Lynda,

When I read your blog I wondered what are you doing different now then when you were on Sparks. I had a thought that I might know what it was and as I was reading people's comments I see more than one person had the same idea. Are you logging all your food? If you don;t want to do it manually there are other places that you can log your food into the system. At the moment I can't not think of one... sorry. I have mine on my laptop it is an excel spreadsheet that I need to start using again!!!

The other thing I found that was helpful for me is that I basically get the same thing over and over again so I have a computer grocery list that I add only things that I need that is not on the list. A different fruit or veggie that is new to me. If I like it - it goes on the permanent list. I do have on my list dairy free bars (I find those I eat just one and not every day) I think it is because it is a rich chocolate so I am satiated when I eat one. I keep one list in my purse and one in my car

If I think of one of the places you can log in your food I will let you know.

Hope everyone gets all they need to do so you can rest this afternoon

  13. I'm doing my nutrition tracking on Cronometer. It is excellent, but miss the fun Spark!

  14. Oh I forgot it also takes in the exercise minutes and classifies by type. So far so good. My Fitness Pal is used by some of the Spark people too.

  15. I used to get so many emails daily from SparkPeople. My mailbox is less full now, which is not a bad thing. I do miss the interactions with my Spark Buddies, so I’m grateful for your Facebook link to your blog. I discovered the nutrition tracker on Fitbit app, so that is keeping me accountable. I need to track my food to be successful. Hope you find a way to be accountable too.

  16. Absolutely . . . you bite it you write it; you drink it, you ink it. That is really the only thing that keeps me on the straight-and-narrow. And some days are more difficult than others.

One day @ a time and you can do it.

    Happy and happy Friday.

  18. SP closing was one too many changes for many of us. The pandemic requires too many decisions that are out of the ordinary and decision fatigue sets in.

My restarts always start the same way. Make one decision. Take one action. Those two things make me feel successful and that decrease the fear of failure. You said, Don’t buy the high calorie stuff. That could be your starting place. Chuck it. Replace it with healthy foods. Drink a glass of water. That decision and those actions will catapult you past the starting line and we’ll along the journey.

  19. I guess one of the main reasons to watch what you eat is eating better will help you to be around longer to look after himself and the dogs, and be there for the rest of the family like on birthdays and occasions where they want you to meet someone special like a boyfriend recently. You mean something important to them so you need to look after yourself to be there longer. Eating less will help with that! ❤

  20. I have also been off course and must start eating better and get back to exercising. I miss Spark but we can do this. Enjoy your evening.

  21. I, too, am doing worse without SP & writing down daily what goes in my mouth. I tell myself I've just come off vacation & being away from home & with family...not a good excuse, I should not make excuses for myself. I need to keep positive....tell myself I AM going to do better 1 little step at a time. Keep inspiring me....

  22. I am also struggling with out spark but I will not join spark america no matter what they don't want all of us so I will not go I do miss so much of it but I kept a few friends that were important to me and I encourage them to keep doing their best

  23. Beth here. I, too, miss sparking. I tried the new site and can't navigate it very well so I just don't do it. I have been looking at other sites but have not found one where I can log my food intake to get the calories that intake equates to. I must keep looking. Until then I must remember what I learned on Spark and try to eat like I did while I had spark to rely on.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes I am too, especially after racing around trying to get on other sites and learning the new ways. I did go back to make sure it really was gone :(.
However we move on and learn and go forward toward new times.

    Great blog thanks

  25. miss it too would spend time on sparks and now not using the computer much

  26. Not really the Spark withdrawal syndrome, but the "I don't want to care for what I eat" and that happened about 2 years ago even while Sparking. Yes, it's time to get a hold on our eating before the lbs start crawling up on us. WE CAN DO THIS!

  27. I miss the people more than spark. LOL
As long as we have your blogs we will make it.

  28. Spark Withdrawal? I also miss my people on there. I am so glad found your Lake Lady blog. I read your SP blogs everyday for years. Hugs & prayers for all the bereft former sparkers.

  29. No one ever woke up the next morning wishing they had eaten more the night before.
    You can do this!
Cold water instead of ice cream - remember?!?
    Hugs & Love,

  30. Yes, I am! I am drinking huge quantities of coffee, along with hot cocoa mix and non-dairy creamer, all day long! And grabbing candy and cookies! It's going to take a while to feel more normal, without being able to check into SparkPeople every day. I had some friends there, but they didn't want to keep in contact with me. So I am starting all over, and it's not the same, and it won't every be the same again. But maybe they weren't good friends? You know, if they didn't want to stay in contact...

  31. I miss spinning the wheel on Spark! Lol. So silly….
Now I log my food on MyFitnessPal. It is working for me. The first 50 days I lost 12 pounds. Now, I’m on that silly plateau and nothing is falling off. Hopefully this week will be different! I think that I am enjoying trying something new.
    Have a wonderful day.

  32. Hi Lynda,
I have had Spark withdrawal I paged put a few days. I gained 4 pounds. So I went on MyFittnessPal. While it is not the exactly like Spark I can put my daily food list. So far I lost 8 ounces. At least I can keep track of my food intake. Perhaps you can try it too.

  33. I'm on My Fitness Pal with my same team from The Biggest Losers 10 week Challenge. Best go there (or somewhere) and start on up again, somewhere, anywhere. Don't stop now! :)

  34. Yes, have had a slow withdrawal...but have had other 'good' excuses with company here. Now to get back on track.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes, I have a certain amount of Spark withdrawal. I had a schedule that worked for me. Exercise, SP with the logging, reading SP emails and reading your blog, logging team stuff under 'other goals,' sometimes doing 'friend feed'...after that meditating. It worked for me.

I've been ok with food, but need to up the exercise a bit. Tonight is karaoke with my friends (and it seems sometimes 1/2 the rest of the town). There will be dancing.

    Hang in there, Lynda. We will make it! {{{Hugs}}}

  36. Yes, some SP withdrawals. Also, have not pushed myself to learn a new site for tracking. give it time to develop your new normal.

  37. I finally figured out how to comment. I just be a slow learner as it is pretty obvious (when you know!) I'm having Spark withdrawal for sure. it's so easy when you are visiting a beloved daughter who loves to cook. I won't be glad when this visit ends but I sure need to get back to eating properly. We'll all hang in there.

  41. I can relate to the recliner after dinner. That is my down fall. I work all day, then when I sit in my chair, that's it, I'm done for the day. I have recently told myself I am not allowed in my chair until everything is done around the house I need to get to, then I can relax in the chair. I like to eat a little something before bed and I try to mindful of what it is, but it is not always easy. The only thing I am finding easier is drinking more water!

  42. LYNDA, START TRACKING YOUR CALORIES. IT MUST BE WHAT YOU ARE EATING BECAUSE I KNOW YOU ARE A BUSY BUSY LADY AND YOU GET PLENTY OF EXERCISE. DON'T GIVE UP. KEEP TRYING.
