I know now why Grammas used to wear a bun in their hair--- because, with all they had to do--weed the garden--cut the grass, shovel snow "till there is no to-morrow"-(-Mom's expression)--get the supper on the table--there is no time for "hair-"
---like these Ladies-in the next picture---They all have their hair tied up---'cept the little girl, who, incidentally, is my Mom when she was little.
so, I may have to grow my hair longer so it can be put in a bun----get it out of the way--tie it up on my head-
We had a bad sleet storm yesterday--then snow fell-- so---I was as busy as a Bee---
- this is what I look like to-day-- (I really hope the Queen doesn't come! ) Now, if I had hair-do's like my ancestors--I would look more like the women of yesteryear!
The women in the above picture knew to keep the hair-do---up----
-In their time, they had to work like I seem to have to do now--- Lord love a Duck! I really must give this some serious thought! -- (Incidentally, the youngest boy in the above picture, was my Grandfather, who used to hold my hand and wheel me around the kitchen-)-
Such nice old family pictures! So glad you have them, make sure to write down who is who for your children. Just think of the money saved by the ladies in early times, to do their own hair.
ReplyDeleteWe had some bad storms yesterday morning...the sirens were going off every few minutes started about 3am. We had tornado warnings in our area and a few counties had touchdowns. 70 to 100 people have died during these storms.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday
Such wonderful pictures and memories. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeletePrecious memories and maybe those ladies had it right!

Precious memories.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly work hard Lynda. Other than a bunch, not many hairdos would survive your workload.
Have a great day. Pats for the pets.
Good job keeping the old photos. Reminds me of looking through the albums at my own grandmother's home, over 50 years ago... some of those relatives with similar clothing and hair... I never met in person, as they passed before I was "alive and kicking" (as I'll bet your mom also said)!
ReplyDeleteI remember my grandmother always had her hair up and twisted into a tight bun. Once I saw her with her hair down - it was so long and I barely recognized her!
ReplyDeleteLove the family pictures...I am afraid I'd have to wait til someone
ReplyDeletecame to dig me out...lol
That is a lot of snow and then sleet.......ick.
Beautiful comparison. Love all the photos. Have a fantastic Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI am happy you have those photos to look back on, and that you can identify the family members in them!
ReplyDeleteYes, hair can be a problem. The lady in my local shop who used to cut mine is no longer there...and I can't find her. I chopped at it myself...woops!
The pets and himself...all of you...must be fin...happy days.
Have a good week ahead....{{{HUGS}}}
My maternal grandmother had two hairstyles. She would brush her waist-length, fine, straight, white hair 300 strokes and then either put it in a braided bun on top of her head or a chignon at the nape of her neck. The chignon was usually on Sundays to accommodate the hat she wore to church.
ReplyDeleteYou really have some nice old pictures and you know who some of them are! For me that is amazing! My hair is just long enough to clip to the back of my neck but not by much. I also have to wear a band to keep it from getting on my face. I call it my COVID do. (((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteLove your photos Lynda!
