The weight is down--- Food prices are up!

We went grocery shopping yesterday--  Well, I was "the shopper"--Himself was the "chihuahua sitter" in the car-- Of course we needed bananas, and vegetables--the same ol'-same ol' stuff--  I had heard before we left , on the news , that the price of food had gone up--  No guff eh?---  like, all they had to do was ask us housey people--the food shoppers, because, to me, prices have just not gone up recently-- They have been climbing since "Day One"-- (Mom's expression of course!)-

I listened to CBC news early this AM., and the announcer was talking about all of this--prices of everything climbing----and it's not just on food----  but---  FOOD is , to me, so important! --(No guff eh-again?)---she spoke of the spoilage  too--how we throw out so much from our frig as we stock pile the veggies etc and then--well me anyway, forget to eat some of it and then I have to toss it. She suggested going more often--not buying as much in one trip----which, I intend to do now.

I also heard that with 2 doses of Phfiser  (Sp?) vaccine, we should not pick up the Omnicrom virus-----  That is good news--One less thing to worry about!

I must tell you too, that yesterday, I paid $6.99 for a box of fresh strawberries-- (I must be crazy eh?)--but--they really did look fresh and they really were --and I absolutely loved them-such a treat in the middle of a snowstorm!----  It also cost me $60 to mail our daughter in Ohio a box--a gift for each of them. Her only gift each Xmas is what we send her- --but--Next year I must rethink that--perhaps use Amazon-Free shipping--

Son #2 the Air Canada Pilot is almost in Dubai, in the Emirates--I was tracking him-- It will be wonderful to see him over the holidays--

Lord love a Duck--You know what my weight is?--186---One day I might even  make it into the 70's!---Never, ever, did I think I could do that! ---so, ya jess never know----- a little exercise--don't buy store cake-- and, yu don't really have to clean up yer plate ! ---(The dog likes it!--*S*)-

Hang in ------  WE are still alive!

  1. Lynda, You are really doing an amazing job in managing your weight...Congrats!!
Glad you treated yourself to the healthy fresh strawberries; you deserved them!! The cost of shipping is astounding, isn’t it?! 😳😱. Eissa7

  2. Ahh Lynda, our weight dreams are coming true. I'm happy to see yours coming down and you've earned it. Stick with it, something is working well for you!

I paid over nine dollars for a small container of blueberries that I like on my cereal but I don't think I'll get them again, not at that price. They sure were delicious though and only one in that container had to be thrown out but gee whizz, over nine dollars???? That's crazy!

It's good that you sent your daughter a Christmas parcel when that's all she'll receive. A mother's love, eh?

Loads of hugs to you, Fred and the furry ones.

  3. Wow, those prices leave a lot to be desired. Glad himself and Lopez were able to go to town with you even though they had to sit in the car. At least it was a change a change of scene.

  4. Great job on the weight goals. I recall having seen a SP blog that contained a cartoon image of an overweight couple standing in front of a grocery shelf as the prices were being raised and the lady commented that perhaps that was going to help folks who are dieting. Have a healthy day.

  6. Congrats on the weight loss! Keep going. Shopping and eating food is all we do so I am trying not to worry over the price right now it is one we enjoy. Keeping it healthy though.

  7. Good for you on the continued weight loss. My daughter and her family live in Roanoke, Virginia - 1250 miles from us. I used to buy for all of them and send a big box her way for Christmas - so very expensive. Once I discovered Amazon Prime I buy for each of the children and have the gifts sent to her. She wraps them for me and I pay no shipping. I do this for all the kids' birthdays too. For the adult children, they all get cash now days - just so much less stress for me.

  8. Your weight program is working, and I am genuinely happy for you and proud of you... you never gave up, and that's the true secret, right?

I love that Himself and Lopez keep one another company in the car while you shop... sigh, and we all shake our heads over prices and availability.

  9. Yes the food just keeps on going up. The fresh Ontario strawberries which now come from a hothouse have gone up from 3.99 this summer. Disgusting but my favourite thing to eat. Congrats on losing more. I think Lopez has helped! It'll be good to see son #2 for a few days.

  10. Yes, food goes up...Davids appetite has dropped way off so I was trying
to lose anyway, so we are being far more careful with what I buy.
Glad you will have your boys anyway...just curious...why does your daughter not get a gift except yours???????????????

  11. Good thing you bought some strawberries to enjoy. Why does no one buy your daughter a gift except you? Kick her husband in the rear. Food prices have gone up since time began. We buy canned veggies, last a lot longer. Others have lost weight since Spark People quit, because of no more constant nagging! Nagging does no good.

  12. Yes, everything has gone up including shipping. I started this year with trying to find small gifts to keep the shipping cost down. Also, I do order things that can get sent directly to the recipient. Always something to think about. I know you must be excited to see Son #2 over the holidays! Excited for you!:)

  13. Awesome on the weight loss! Never give up.
Everything is expensive. Food prices seem to rise weekly. Glad you bought strawberries for your treat! Much healthier than ice cream.
Great that you'll see pilot son at Christmas. No doubt your daughter really misses not being able to be with family. So sweet of you to send her and her kids gifts.
    Have a great evening!

  14. Good evening, Lynda. I just read the article about you and Fred. I enjoyed it very much. Its funny how things work out in our lives. Whatever the future holds for the two of you I know you will make the best decision possible for you, Fred and your pets.

  15. Yay for the continued eating healthy and losing weight. It's a lifelong thing, but I'll bet you feel so much better.

Like you, I'm really seeing the grocery prices go up up up. I am a bit careful about how much produce I purchase at once and have gotten pretty accurate on how much I need for a little under a week. With some veggies I just go ahead and cook then freeze for later use in a soup or a stock. It's cold weather so I am making more soups, which I can use up veggies in, and add less expensive meats in quite small quantities and still have nutritious meals for a bit less money. For us the gas is sky-high. Over four dollars a gallon where I live, so I'm grateful I have a fairly fuel efficient car.

I'm glad your husband the pupper were able to go with you to the store ... probably good for all of you to get out of the house a bit, and with Lopez in the car with your husband you didn't have to worry about dog-destroyed things when you returned home.

I order quite a few of my gifts using Prime; even with paying a bit extra for them to put it in a gift bag it's still much less than paying shipping.

I read the article last night, and it was quite nice.

    Happy Thursday!

  16. P.S. The Christmas day call sounds like a good thing. I'm not sure which day my kids and I are celebrating due to work schedules, but I know I'll be free for Merry Christmas call on the actual day.

  17. Free shipping is the way to go. Most businesses offer to insert a gift card with your personal message.
