Lopez is rushed to the vet-

This is the Chihuahua who gave me quite a scare yesterday-- You see, Himself was away to the Ophthalmologist in Sudbury- and I thought I'd be able to have a "sorta " relaxing day----  but----it was not to happen--after working away in the kitchen tidying up, I just happened to see a candy wrap on the floor in the next room. It was a 'L'indor"  red candy wrap---

"Oh no", I thought, "Lopez must've eaten  it"---and I ran into the living room, to see the little guy swallowing the last of a big round chocolate candy------ Lord love a Duck!-There went my , "supposed to be"--relaxing day!---I called the vet, and a very nice sounding vet assistant told me to get peroxide and how to dilute it, and syringe it down his throat--  and--if he did not vomit in 10 minutes, repeat the procedure- --I did not have peroxide----  I said , "Could she do it for me?"---  And she replied, "Yes, but there will be a charge."----

So Lopez and I made an emergency trip to town, driving way too fast and I deposited him into the arms of some nice  vet assistant, who told me to go home- and they would call me to pick him up later in the day.---

Anyway, the vet did call me around noon, and said his chocolate level was minimal--that he had vomited some of the chocolate , and he might vomit more, but to come and get him----just to watch him--

I threw out the chocolate candies which had been in a bowl on the dining table--In fact they had been there for yrs and yrs--for the Grandchildren-  If they ever return to the dining table, they will be put in a dish with a lid-

Himself did return from Sudbury--said he was never going back--that his eyes were perfect (so he was told)-Lopez did eat his dinner and  seems just fine to-day--'cept he has to go out to "pee" every hour or so--(wonder if he had an IV?-)--No more chocolate candies sitting around here now!-
AND IT IS A NEW DAY---  AND ALL IS WELL--AND--the man with the rototiller will be here soon--AND-----  --and I have decided to be in a good mood!---LOPEZ (the little bad boy!)---is fine--  but---  think twice before yu get a Chihuahua -- They are climbers!-----If he wasn't so sweet  eh---  a real challenge however , for sure!

  2. Oh my goodness! Yet another thing on the list of things Lopez has gotten into. Glad he's ok. Sorry your quiet day turned into an unplanned trip to the vet. Lopez is quite the handful.
    Good news on Fred's appointment.
Hoping today is more normal, maybe even peaceful. Always something happening at your house.

  3. Oh my gosh! POOR YOU and poor Lopez. My Mr. Spot did that once. He ingested a LOT of chocolate. Had to do the peroxide thing and he did ‘emit’ the chocolate. PHEW. These fur babies know how to get the heart going!

As for Himself, well . . . HOPE his eyes were good.

Wishing a PEACEFUL day for you!

    Hugs

  4. Seems he gets into a lot of mischief....I being the person who would call the dr. office to get a report from them in case Himself "forgot" anything.

  5. So many temptations for our beloved pets! You were able to avoid all those calories, though. Happy he is okay.
Also good news that Himself's eyes are fine.
Sorry, though, that you did not have time to relax or accomplish without all the stress! We all need down time.
Hopefully, today will be better...Himself in a good mood, all the pets behaving, Sadie only doing the minimum...
    I am thinking good thoughts for both of us. {{{HUGS}}}

  6. When Daisy was a puppy I was working part time at a fabric store. When I got home I emptied my pocket onto my night stand - including a pill. A bit later on the pill was gone. We also called the vet and they had us give her something. We finally put her into a crate to drive around because she always threw up in the car. She did - we didn't find the pill but better safe than sorry. I'm sorry this spoiled your quiet day!

  8. Sorry about Lopez!! He is a handful but he has also helped you lose more weight. So there is a plus side to all of this.

I remember years ago on Christmas eve my friends and I were getting ready to go to Church and off we went. We came home and discovered the candy dish that HAD A LID on it and had been full was empty. What is really strange we were bad doggie people we did not call the vet. The amount of chocolate that small dog ate should have killed her but thank God it didn't. We did remember to move all food off the tables when we left.

That reminds me of a dog we had growing up. He did not like to be left alone so when we left he ran around to the bathroom and got a hold of the toilet paper roll and ran around the house until it was empty. Then he would go empty all the waste paper baskets. After that before dad started the car we went through the check list - bathroom doors closed? Waste paper basket empty or put up high? Any other thing the dog could get into before we got back. The only time all of us left was to go to church on Sunday. Oh the other thing on the check list is did we close our parents bedroom door. When the dog left he went to their bedroom and messed up their beds. Never in any of us kids rooms!! Animals are so funny at times!!!

  9. Boy, Lynda, gotta keep your peepers open with that dog around! What a watchful eye you have to have. We have never had a dog that did any of those things, but ours were always bigger dogs. Even the English Bulldog did not get into stuff, but she was like a little person, eyes like an older person, lol! Thank goodness your vet was open! It will be a long time before you are alone again. Sad. Are you having Fall yet?

  11. Well! Sometimes we take safety for granted because it's not been an issue before... glad you, Himself, and Lopez are OK, and that one more escape hatch from the safety net has been repaired!

  12. So glad that Lopez is OK! So lucky that you discovered the candy wrapper! My oldest son's dog did a similar thing, but they never did get her to throw up....and she actually liked the peroxide! Silly dog....and she survived. Her name was Hazel and she ate anything she could get her mouth on! I told the kids that she had an iron stomach from all the junk she ate! Chili dogs, cookies, birthday cake were all gobbled down when the kids were looking the other way!
