"They don't make them like they used to"- "No Guff", I replied!

This is why I never got to blog yesterday-- This is a new frig/freezer--- The space behind it is empty because Himself and I dragged the old frig , which had died, out--We managed to get it out to the front hall--then the 2 men who brought this huge  new one in, took the old one to the dump-Before I ordered the new frig/freezer, the Lady at the store told me the new measurements -I had a yard stick ---and after using that and telling her I had a yard stick--she replied, "You are using a yard stick?"-And then she said, "I've never heard of that!"------Now this is Mom's yard stick--from her house, after she passed -I thought everyone had yard sticks-- I guess a yard stick is a thing of the past----

Anyway , Himself and I measured and remeasured--and it seemed like the new frig would fit  where the old one had been-- but------it didn't!-Lord Love A Duck!

As you can see, it is too tall--by a lot--(I suppose a yard stick  wasn't the best thing to measure with-)-So, long story short, we left this new huge frig in the middle of the kitchen, and plugged it in--I was "pooped" by now---thought some how I would fit the thing in--somehow-- sometime-- because now, it was suppertime ---  Himself suggested we get 2 takeout meals, at Son#1's restaurant--  I drove down there , exhausted, after filling the new frig up (in the middle of the kitchen, and after cleaning up the rest of the house after the movers had taken doors down, and moved furniture to get the huge frig in)-

Well, this is a small town, and there really is a God in Heaven, because, while waiting for the 2 takeout meals, the owner of the store we purchased this huge frig from, was in that restaurant, and approached me to tell me they would have a carpenter out to our home to cut the cupboard for this huge frig to go into---UNBELIEVABLE! --  a carpenter will be here Sunday---and meanwhile , the frig sits in the middle of the kitchen--and I am trying to get rid of dishes we don't use from the cupboards above.

The microwave  was just replaced--and now the kitchen refrigerator-----We had the other refrigerator  since 1987---I was told the life of this new one is about 10 yrs-- then, the chap said, "They don't make them like they used to"----  In my mind I heard, "NO GUFF!"----

One never knows what each day will bring---One gets up in the morning , and hopes for the best I guess! Good thing we are strong--doncha think?

  1. What a blessing to have them get a carpenter out to help fit the fridge into your kitchen! Hope you have a good day ahead!

  2. I was worried about you when you didn't even post a quick word to let us all know you and himself were ok. Glad to hear it was a fridge disaster and nothing more. Also nice that a carpenter is coming this weekend to fix the problem. And they sure don't make stuff like they used to is so correct.

  4. What a disaster with the new fridge..BUT..what a blessing that carpenter will come Sunday and modify cabinets. Its always something

I’ve had 2 friends in recent weeks that measured and remeasured but when the new fridge came...too big or stuck out too far are some complication
At least you've got your new fridge IN the house and its staying. Yep, pitch whatever is in those upper cabinets as you won't be able to get to them anyway.
I know what a yardstick is. I no longer have one but I sure know what it is.
You got new washer not too long ago, and new microwave and new fridge. Hope you are done. They don't make them like they used to!
    Have a good day.
    Hugs

  6. It is so nice that the carpenter will be out Sunday and you can move the fridge into place. It always seems that once one thing breaks everything breaks and it is so true that they don't make things to last anymore. Enjoy your day.

  7. They don't make ANYTHING the way they used to! To be honest, though, some things are better than they used to be.
When I saw your problem, I thought, they need to trim the cupboard above. Later in your blog I saw that's what's being done! Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
And I keep NOTHING in the cabinet above my frig. It's just too tall to get to...and then having to reach the depth of the frig and up...just too hard.
    I bet your son's meals are great! {{{HUGS}}}

  10. I have accumulated a collection of yard sticks - some with lumber yard advertising, some metal, some 1/2 inch square and some that are 4 ft., etc. Not sure how this happened but it did. Hate to throw anything away. My new fridge was supposed to have several inches clearance on the sides and barely fit in. Recently a new washer/dryer was too tall and a cabinet above had to be removed. Finally got that taken care of. Fun never ends!

  11. I'm so glad the place where you bought the fridge will be able to figure out how to get it into the space. I'm just waiting for our old fridge to shut down! Or our freezer downstairs which is about 25 years old! My mom had the same appliances for 36 years - nope, they don't make things like they used to!

  12. That is awesome about the carpenter coming out to fix your cabinets. I was shocked when the person said they did not know what a yard stick was. I take it yard sticks don't exist any more and if not what the heck do you use. Obviously I don't use anything.

Glad you got a new refrigerator. Hope nothing else decides to die for at least a little while. What is sad is that the new stuff will not last as long as our old stuff. We have become a throw away society.

  13. Wow! I guess that is the plus of living where you do. Even here (in Newark Ohio, as opposed to my previous big city, Columbus), that kind of thing wouldn't happen. So fortunate! Yes, I know and have a yardstick. I had no clue they weren't "in" anymore, sigh. I also have several tape measures, but sometimes you need something sturdy to measure with. I was fortunate when I bought my new fridge, as I assumed they were all the same height and that cabinets were all a "standard" height. I did get the counter depth one, though, as I live in a condo and don't have a large kitchen. It's kind of small inside, but just right for one person.

  14. Looks like a great fridge. You were in the right place at the right time when you went to get dinner! At least things can get settled by Sunday. At least himself also measured so he can't blame you. And yes, I also had a yardstick so know what it is. Great family pictures by the way. Glad you are "back", wondered if something happened! Lopez is probably confused about his kitchen!

  16. That is why I don't get a new fridge....we would have to chop out a chunk of cabinet next to it, and above it...or take out a wall...we just found out we are going to have to have a major tree trimming which will be costing big bucks............sigh..........and David has another health
    issue.............I have a headache.

  17. We had a big refrigerator with bottom freezer from2005. The the evening before we were to leave for Florida for a couple of months it quit running. My sister who was not going to FL with us and I got out the coolers and turned the fridge off. For over a month my sister had to live out of coolers. What could be frozen went to the freezer in the garage and the rest in coolers. I ordered a new one from the company and because I kept up my protection on it they gave us a new one. But, it was a month before it was delivered. I have to admit I like the new one much better then the one that broke down. Good luck with your new one.
