You are in charge of your happiness-

AND-----  It is SUNDAY---my second Sunday in a row--because---  well yu know---I thought yesterday was----well, you know----It finally stopped snowing--for now--so, I was out cleaning off the bricks in front of the garage-also cleared a trail to the dog pen--I think I can drive on the driveway and pack the snow down-----

Both dogs have been out AND----LOPEZ DID HIS BUSINESS-both "boys" (as in dogs)-love the snow-

I have the washing in--have to change the bed---  then a nurse is coming to dress Himself's wounds-his hand, this time--I saw the below picture and thought--- "Yes, that's me"-----always trying to keep the books balanced-- I  wonder if I am the only person in the world right now who  works at keeping the finances flowing--They do say the price of groceries should come down, but--so far, I have not experienced that.

I do remember My Mom and Dad living  more frugally than I do-- like---  Remember the margarine they used to buy?--It came in a bag with a yellow ball of of food colouring in the bag-- We, as kids would work with the bag to break the yellow ball in it and mix the bag with our hands until the white margarine turned yellow---Then there was the powdered milk----  We had to drink that---and Mom would take the waxed paper from a cereal box, and use it to wrap our sandwiches for our lunch at school----There was no Kindle---  Every Saturday we were at the Library--and we lugged countless books home to read, then return----plus--there was always a garden, behind the house,  where most of our vegetables came from--
Yes, we loved to square dance!---  and we had special home -made dresses to wear which matched the boys shirts--Do kids square dance anymore?  Lotza memories -good and bad--

So, you are my "REAL FRIENDS"-----who I can spout off about   life in the bush here--  and you all keep me "on the straight and narrow"--(Dad used to say that!)-like --yesterday----when my mind told me it was SUNDAY  and I didn't find  out  until the day was nearly over, when I
read all your comments--- Lord love a Duck!

Time to get on with to-day--So far, I know it is Sunday--To-morrow, I hope there is a Day Program for Himself---- seems  like life is going well here to-day----and--- I hope it is in your part of the world--

Aren't we  so fortunate to live where we do?-
--Remember that "YOU" are in charge of your happiness!--

  1. Hi, Marti here. I am down in the dumps, I must work hard to get out of there. My dear elderly neighbor had a great Christmas, and then on the Thurs after, could not get off the toilet. Her legs did not want to work. After about a week in the hospital with them unable to find the cause, they released her to a nursing home. Other than not being able to stay awake, she seemed herself. And then she just went downhill in the blink of an eye. I visited her early evening yesterday and she was just a vegetable, really. Her food was sitting there uneaten and she was just semi conscious. So sad. I just sat and held her hand, smoothed her hair, and cried. So sad that the end is often like that. Her family is scattered and her daughter is emotionally and physically weak, so it's up to me, really, to be there. And yet, I can't make any decisions for her, I'm only "the neighbor." My other elderly neighbor is also going over there to see her. Which reminds me, I guess I should notify the person who lets the condo community know, so that she can get some cards sent her way.

Anyway, Happy Sunday, and count your blessings!

  2. Oh, my, the memories. Now, I never had the margarine that had the food coloring to mix in, but my mother would tell about it. I *did* however, occasionally have to deal with the powdered milk, as that was a money-saver and mom really knew how to squeeze a nickel!

Would you believe back in the day, when the doctor gave your a "recipe" for baby formula, it didn't come premixed or powdered? My mom had just mixed up a big batch for her infant child when the doctor change the formula. Rather than using up the new batch or throwing it out, Mom calculated how to change the formula into the new recipe (math is good for so many things, isn't it?), and did that so that not a drop was wasted. Dad was impressed, and would tell this story.

Hope you have a good weekend. Down here we're bracing for the next Winter storm, due to arrive tomorrow. Wherever you are and whatever your weather, be safe.

  4. Lynda, I've missed something....what is Fred's wound on his hand? How did that happen?

Yes, I went to many barn dances in my teens and the dances were either waltzes or square dancing, I loved doing both!! We went every Friday night!

I find that my online friends are really good too, we can talk about everything and anything and no one is judgemental. I love all of you!

Take it easy with the driveway cleaning and bundle up whenever you go out, this is really winter that we're getting now!

    Love you, Gloria xoxo

  5. It's Kathy. Yes, I do have some of those memories. My mother lived like we were still on rations from WW2. When something went on sale she'd buy several of them. When I cleaned out her pantry after she passed away I think there were at least 12 cans of Hersey Chocolate Sauce! I'm glad it stopped snowing for you. We got a little more snow overnight - maybe an inch. Not so much that we have to shovel anything yet! My parent's used to do Square Dancing and I remember learning it in grade school! I wouldn't know where to begin these days! I hope your day is filled with happy moments!

  6. We had snow all day yesterday, as well, but finally stopped. BUT this week

Well, glad that Himself is going to have someone to dress his hand. Someone new to interact with.

Nope, my dear, you are not the only one juggling things to keep the finances flowing. Here, too.

Yes, I remember the margarine that came with the food coloring in the bag. YUCK. And powdered milk, had that, too. Y-U-C-K. I never remember Mom using the wax paper from cereal boxes to wrap sandwiches, but we had a roll of wax paper and we’d cut off a sheet and wrap the sandwich in it.

Awwww, well glad we can help keep you on the straight and narrow. Important!

Hope it’s a good Sunday and that Himself gets to go to the Lodge tomorrow.

    Hugs

  7. Hi Lynda. Hoping your snow is done. Sure hope Lodge is open Monday. Lynda, we're lucky to have you and your positive attitude. You're the best.
We had to do square dancing in PE class.
Finance juggling is part of life for many of us. I don't recall margarine like that but I recall mom trying to get us to drink powdered milk. She'd put it in a milk bottle to disguise it lol. She was a stay at home mom and stretched the funds. We had a big garden.
Hoping today is easier. The nurse for himself might be a distraction.
Lopez looks cute in his parka. Sounds like Lopez and himself are still at war over the cane.
Play your piano, take a nap, read your book. Enjoy.
    Hugs

  9. Happy Sunday! Hope your day has been wonderful! I got my bed done and other Sadie stuff yesterday. It was nice to not do much today. It flurried all day in Ohio so it was nice to just sit and watch it. Of course, there is always yorkies to take care of so that has to be done. Some days are better than others as you know. Tommy is eight months old now and he is very determined and don't want to listen. Kloi will be 8 years old on the 13th. She is very, very good but when she was his age, not so much! So, I know I must be patient and I remember from day one what you went through with little Lopez. We do love them! Enjoy your evening!

  10. Yes to square dancing in PE classes in school. Maybe they were afraid of having us stand too close together. In a lower grade we also did the May Pole Dance where we twisted the ribbon around the pole.

The margarine with the little button of color I remember. Sometimes Mom would get another brand which was a powder you sprinkled on the white margarine and mixed it together - not any fun at all. We used to take aluminum foil pieces (used) to school for the war effort along with a little change to buy war bonds. A different life back then. D

  13. I also remember mixing the color in the margarine. That was a federal law in the US thanks to the strong dairy lobby. They didn't want people to look at yellow margarine and think they were getting butter. Things have really changed with margarine being so much improved over time.

We never had to drink the powdered milk (that I remember), but we did use a lot of it in cooking. My aunt usually supplied us with milk and butter as she had a milk cow that supplied them with more than they could use.

We didn't square dance in P.E. but we did learn at 4-H camp. I did a lot of square dancing at university. We did have 'mixers' in high school when jitterbug was all the rage.

We are also getting snow here in NE Montana, and then will have some wintry temperatures with Thursday high of -18C and low of -32C. We had been enjoying daytime highs in the 0-5C range.
