The cat who came in from the cold!

It is Sunday---  and it is sunny--The wash is done-dried-and folded---The bed is changed--The boys (as in dogs)_ have been out-and I need to get  bananas--soon--but---- Sushi  wishes  to tell you all her story--

The above cat, as you know, is Sushi----"the cat who came in from the cold"----Well--. Sushi has resided with us now for a million years (Remember?---)---And remember, I tried to give her to the city cat shelter---?-----But---  they asked me, "Did you feed her?"---and, of course I did---It was minus 30C and she was absolutely starving--And, they said, "Well then she is now your cat!"------But, I could not catch her-- so, many people came out with traps --animal traps---there are some very nice people who carry these traps around, for people like me, who feel  sad for stray animals left outside in the cold--

It took a good 3 weeks , and a huge piece of sirloin steak , to coax Sushi into that trap--and it was on a Sunday (the good Lord must've helped her!)-- --  and I remember being so happy to find her , on a minus 30 C day----  so I carried Sushi, trap and all, to an upstairs bedroom, opened the trap, and----- Sushi ran under the bed---  and then turned to me and hissed and clawed me--- with all 4 paws-- scared the daylights out of me--SUSHI WAS FERAL----Lordy Be! What to do--What to do--

A kind neighbour and myself managed to get her upstairs , where she ran under our bed--I could feed her-- on the edge of our bed--She used the litter box (beside Himself's side of the bed!)---but---I could not touch her--- So , what does one do, with a Feral cat under your bed?--Why of course, you go  online to--"How to train a Feral cat"-----

It took  4 mos., with her living under our bed---  me with a long back scratcher to touch her---  her  using the litter box only at night-- Four long months with a cat under our bed-- (I told you that Himself  has a great deal of patience)-----and--one day--4 months later-- I went upstairs--AND SUSHI WAS ON___ I REPEAT___WAS ON_----our bed--unbelievable--

Sushi lives upstairs, mostly here in the computer room--likes big Beau---- not a fan of LOPEZ , who is  not a fan of her either--and--- she is the cat who came in from the cold---

She was about 6 mos when we found her eating bird  seed on the back deck--  absolutely starving-- We found out later that a Mother cat   had been at the boat landing near our home--  with 2 kittens-- some neighbours had seen her with the kittens--  We think she was one of the kittens--The Mother cat was found dead--- and probably the other kitten was eaten by a wild animal---and----- that is  Sushis' story--and what happens when people do not get their pets spade and just abandon them outside--

I must get out of here--  the grocery is calling---Too bad I get carried away----- so easily isn't it--  just like  Walter below---  always dreaming--  LOL

I hope your day is going well-- doncha jess want to dream along with the above guy??--and hopefully the meme below will give you a smile----????

Watch out for stray pets--- They may like to find a warm spot under your bed also----Well, you never know!

It's always good to remain strong---  -One never knows what we will run into next----  and perhaps being a little crazy does help--what do you think?

Until to-morrow----  big hugs--

  1. Love your Sushi story! She is such a pretty kitty! Her coloring reminds me of my two cats....they were both rescues, but not feral. You are a good and kind and loving lady! And it breaks my heart when I hear about people abandoning or mistreating their animals. Laughed when I read your Birth Mom - Financial Drain quote!!!! Somehow I missed your blog yesterday, and still don't see it listed. Missed you!

  2. Lynda. SO happy to hear from you! Yesterday must not have been a good day at all, with no comments on the previous blog and no Saturday blog.
Sushi's story reminds me of Lucky's. I took him from an abusive owner. We he got into my apartment, he hid under my bed for a couple weeks (not as long as Sushi), only ate and used the litter box at night. One day he crept out, I reached out, he sniffed and let me pet his pretty little head. That started our bonding. I spoke softly...not shouting. I did not kick him up against a wall or hit him like I was told his first owner did. I love him. Wish I could make her understand that animals live by their instincts. You have to let them be themselves.
Oh, well. I could go on and on about how to care for your pets.
Evidently, today the 2 of you and the 3 pets are okay.
    Hope it continues.
We are having a warm up...7F and sunny. I would have to look up your weather. Hope it's not tons of snow. Clearing it is not fun, but, if you're careful, it is good exercise.
Sadie or her twin has got some stuff done here already. Not what I want yet cuz that would make noise. Lucky is sleeping, and I can play on the computer 'til he wakes up.
    Love all of you and wish you joy. {{{HUGS}}}

    1. When Himself has an anger episode, it takes a lot of patience on my part to remember that he cannot hear-- and he becomes confused-- It is such a terrible thing to happen in one's elder yrs--Now if I could ever stop blubbering when all hell breaks loose, it might help me--LOLOL_-and I knew if I blogged it would all just come out --but we got thru it--
Your Lucky's story is almost like Sushi--Yu are a goodMom to Lucky-- and incidentally -I missed you all yesterday-- a lot --- Hugs, Lynda

    2. Doesn't Himself wear his hearing aids? It would make it easier on you both. At least he is home, knows who people and pets are. Always thinking of and praying for you all {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Thank you, Sushi, for sharing your story. The Prisoner has a similar history, with his mother being abandoned on a rural road, being taken in so that The Prisoner was literally born in a barn. His rescuer's mom and I used to work together, and I had just helped my Diamond (dog) over the Rainbow bridge when she was in such pain and 15 years old. So after being raised in a home with little kids to the ripe old age of 8 weeks, The Prisoner came to live with me. He was already box trained, so I didn't have that whole "feral cat training" to go through, because of his rescuer's children.

So wrong to abandon animals, and your heart goes out to those furry critters! Sushi lucked out. So did The Prisoner!

  4. Sushi is one very loved and fortunate kitty…. as is The Prisoner! I also rescued a feral, starving cat … taming was a process, for sure, but he was a treasure! As I called him, “Casey, THE best little kitty cat known to man” LOL! He has been across the Rainbow Bridge for more than a decade BUT what a gift he was, and I know that both Lynda and Barb feel the same!
Very cold…mid 30’s to start the day in central FL…but forecast is low 80’s by Wednesday!
Loved your Sushi story…demonstrates your big heart and compassion, Lynda! ❤️. Eissa7

  7. Hi Lynda: so glad to hear from you today. I was real worried yesterday when you didn't post. Glad all is well. Nice story about Sushi. Guess she's glad she came in from the cold! It's supposed to be a little warmer this week. Lopez will be happy for that as I am. The meme about birth mom and financial drain is so cute. Hope himself gets to go to daycare tomorrow. Have a good night. Hugs Brenda

  8. Quite the ordeal for you and Sushi. Im impressed that you could domesticate a ferral cat. That's quite a tribute to your patience and love of animals
I find it interesting that shes not a fan of Lopez. You are an amazing pet patent. Sushi is a beauty.
Missed hearing from you yesterday. Assume all is well.
It's finally above freezing this afternoon...BUT...freezing rain/ice is forecast for the early morning hours tomorrow. So dangerous and can be a problem if power lines go down.
I went out for bananas, gas etc earlier. It was 5 above. Hey, it's better than 5 below zero.
    Be safe and warm.
    Play your piano.
    Hugs and blessings

    1. Yes one can domesticate a Feral cat--but Sushi is still a bit aloof-She comes to only me--and doesn't mind Beau--- likes him-- but she is a good cat --- --Lopez barks at her so does not like him---I leave the closet door open in the study so she can hide in there-Sorry about yesterday-- Himself was not good--but--again, we got thru it-- I did not want to post anything about him as people in town -(some) read this blog also--Life eh??---and--yes, it warmed up here also-- and I too got groceries this morning-- such a hard job--putting them all away--Hugs, Lynda

  9. It's Kathy. I missed you yesterday! So I was happy to see your blog today. I love the Sushi story. I do remember when you found her and how difficult it was for you to take care of her in the beginning. She now loves you as much as you love her! I also love the little caption with Birth Parent / Financial Drain - isn't that just the truth. This morning I got a frantic call from my youngest daughter who is really going through so much right now. Her 5 year old had a total melt down and he's now too big for her to physically restrain him! And I thought today was going to be a nice, quiet day!!! But what's a mom to do? Have a lovely day!

  10. Happy Sunday, Lynda! You got so much done and very early. I hope you had a good outing. I always love hearing about Sushi. She is so good now and appreciates you saving her. I love cats but my husband is allergic so we just have the yorkies. My nephew, who is now 15, told me when he was about 5 that I should just get Hello Kitty stuff and his dear uncle would not be allergic to it. LOL So, for years now, he still gets me Hello Kitty stuff. It's quite funny! Hope you enjoy your evening!
