Marge--"YOU" have it also??-- Lordy Be!!!--Seems we all have it--LOL--Guess I must not panic--LOL--Lynda
DeleteI was also diagnosed last year. There are many new treatments and meds. One thing my doctor swears by is Areds eye vitamins 2x a day. Not a cure but definitely eye health booster!
ReplyDeleteYes I have ordered that--Hope it works-- LyndA
DeleteMy dear, so sorry to hear that. Not like you need something else on your plate. BUT there are lots of treatments, so HOPEFULLY your ophthalmologist can com up with a treatment plan to keep things under control. (((HUGS))) and prayers.

Barb--What a terrible thing to get--- no pain--but--we need our sight-- Hope it doesn't progress too quickly--Lynda---
DeleteLynda, I have it, too. I now take Baush and Lome eye 'vitamins' religiously. I also am obsessive about sun glasses to cut glare from the sun and snow. My last eye visit show NO PROGRESSION of the macular degeneration. The eye vitamin to take...make sure it includes that long word that starts with 'z'. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09TG6TP2Y/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_plhdr=t&aaxitk=92c34946835e7587adc751ea94e99575&hsa_cr_id=0&qid=1738852875&sr=1-1-9e67e56a-6f64-441f-a281-df67fc737124&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_lsi4d_asin_0_img&pd_rd_w=DGGY5&content-id=amzn1.sym.8591358d-1345-4efd-9d50-5bd4e69cd942%3Aamzn1.sym.8591358d-1345-4efd-9d50-5bd4e69cd942&pf_rd_p=8591358d-1345-4efd-9d50-5bd4e69cd942&pf_rd_r=FGDP3VAT7VH3FEN8KEQS&pd_rd_wg=D0oic&pd_rd_r=d22b1be9-8861-4a65-a553-097301aa58a2 Aha! It's called Preservision Areds 2.
ReplyDeleteI will check back later, sis. If it's in the beginning stages, just be careful, and it will be a sloooow progression. {{{HUGS}}} Love, Maggie
Maggie--How long have yu had it??--Holy Cow! I had no idea----How long have you had this Maggie??--Lynda
DeleteYou are not alone, and DO NOT PANIC. I have it too and I'm 10 years younger than you. Treatments have come a long way since your mother's time, and the retina specialists monitor the progression and treat as needed. For sure, start taking one of the AREDS supplements (I take Preservision twice a day -- and it's at Costco). You already have healthy lifestyle habits so that's a plus. Sadly, there's no cure for this and we just have to manage it as it changes over time.
ReplyDeleteOh You really are so good to write-- I have been in a state of shock--but think I am slowly getting over it--thanks to people like yu-- Thank yu so much for writing--=I sure appreciate it--Lynda
DeleteIt's Kathy. I am so sorry to hear your diagnosis. Hopefully your Optometrist will be able to prescribe something for you so you will be able to retain your eyesight. I will be praying for you! Things are quiet here today so far. I had a couple of classes at the gym yesterday and they were so good - the first was Pilates Reformer which I love, the second was a stretch & balance class which I haven't been able to do in well over a year. It felt so good. So I'm happy to say that I am healing! You take care of yourself and I hope you and little Lopez can work things out!
ReplyDeleteKathy--I am better--It was such a shock--=It hit me like a lead baloon-=-LOL--I feel better now--=Thank yu SO so much for your support--Man oh man-We need to support each other--Lynda not much I can do, but accept it--Lynda
DeleteI agree with what the others have said ... we are fortunate to live when there are more things to slow down the progress of macular degeneration, so more hope. Of course, we hope and wish not to be diagnosed with anything like this, and it's quite a shock. A little time does not change the diagnosis, but we calm down and adjust. (I deal with Diabetes, runs in the family; it's for life and once diagnosed just had to finally live a little differently.)
ReplyDeleteIt's a windy old day here, and that makes it feel colder than it is. I'm so glad I am retired and can stay in out of it if I so desire. :D
Happy Thursday!
So so good of yu to write and encourage me to just not dwell on it--I do apprecite your advice--Lynda
DeleteHi Lynda! I know all will be well with you and your eyes. I am sure there will be ways they can stay on top of it compared to your mom back in the day. It thundered and ice stormed all night in Ohio. Not much sleep but I will tonight. I hope you have a wonderful evening. Big hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh Lynda, I am so sorry, but one of my aunt's lived to well over 96 with Macular Degeneration. In fact she was the longest living on both sides of the family and managed to be on her own the whole time. I have an eye test coming up the end of January. Love, Hugs, and Prayers for you. Donna_cps2 Lansing, IL
ReplyDeleteHi, it's Marti. Do you have wet, or dry? My cousin (80) has it, she doesn't seem to fuss much over it. She was getting shots in her eyes, which she didn't like, but other than that, she seems to be doing just fine. Of course, my cousin never seems to fuss much over ANYthing, unlike me, LOL. She just always maintains a positive attitude. I would be pretty upset, myself. I don't think I'm due for such a diagnosis anytime soon, though. I'm only 66. My mom, I believe, started getting it, and lived until she was 93. Just be proactive, find out what to do for it, and that's that. But, I'm sorry, no one wants to have a diagnosis such as that. However, the longer we live, the more things we're eventually gonna get, it seems! LOL. I have diabetes, type 2, and I HATE it. I love me some sweets, carbs, and all things bad, but I got a continuous glucose monitor, and that thing is a life safer, I tell ya!
ReplyDeleteOh, Lynda! So many of us have more than one problem with our eyes. I have both glaucoma and cataracts, for example. When the glaucoma was first diagnosed I about went "round the bend" because my grandmother had it, and she went blind in her last year of life. And vision is such a big "quality of life" thing!
ReplyDeleteHope they find ways to deal with your new diagnosis! And that Lopez is easy on you today!
Lynda, I am so sorry about the not good news. Hopefully there are new ways to manage the condition nowadays🙏🏼 Carol in FL
