Did yu know, it is "World Bee Day"?

To-day is "World Bee Day"-- something I never heard of before. CBC radio just announced it--Have you ever heard of that?--The bees as  you probably know, are dying-- and they are so necessary for our food chain-- They pollinate our gardens, helping plants produce our foods.

I went online and learned of 6 things about a  Bee-

#1. Bees waggle dance --It advertises to other bees in the area, that a Bee just found a great site  to gather pollen ---It attracts other bees to that site. I have seen bees waggle!

#2.Bees use tools to repel predatory  hornets to the entrance of their hive. They do this by collecting animal faces which they smear around their entrance.

#3. Bees probably nearly caused a cold war with Cambodia  as they leave behind yellow splotches which look like chemical weapons.

#4.When pollen is scarce, in the Spring, before the flowers are blooming, and in climate change with fewer plants blooming early. Bumble bees  will use damaged tomato plants and mustard plants as food.

#5. Humans exploit honeybees as sometimes humans collect their honey to use as  antibiotic resistance.

#6. Some Bees eat meat, using dead animal carcasses-

Well, everyday, we should learn something, so that is what I learned this AM.

--I have also learned to keep my mouth shut and walk away with Himself being quick to accuse me of anything that goes wrong in the house.--  This morning, I tried to turn up the furnace to take the chill out of the air, and-- the poor furnace would not go on- You never really know what each day will being eh?-- I called Rusty, the great "Furnace Repair man", who told me he will be here this afternoon. You gotta love Rusty! Our furnace is not old, so it can't be too much of a problem.

And it is a good day to have a great day---  I am going out to fertilize the lawn--  "busy as a Bee" I guess! I shall think of the Bees as  I plant the flowers!

  1. I just learned about No Mow May! Some people do not mow their lawns in May so that the bees can pollinate the dandelions. Never that. We are so quick to mow and fertilize that we don't give the bees a chance to do their thing.

  2. I used the bees as an excuse not to poison my dandilions! So far, the neighbors have not evicted me.

  3. Hmmm . . . didn’t know it was World Bee Day. Yes, have to preserve them! Interesting bee facts! Never, ever knew some bees eat meat!

Leaving the dandelions in the back yard alone so the bees can use them. The clover, too. Most of the neighbors are doing the same.

Oh it’s sooooooo hard to walk away, but . . . that’s the best strategy, because you’re never going to change Himself’s mind. That’s his reality. Learned that dealing with Mom and her Alzheimer’s.

Oh my. HOPE Rusty can fix the furnace! Sheesh.

  4. I love dandelions . . . my grandmother used to dig them for dandelion greens . . . sorta like collard greens. I'm off to the movies today . . .the new Downton Abbey opens in the theater today.

  5. Interesting about bees. Enjoy working on the lawn. Keep busy------burn calories------eat healthy--------lose weight. It's a life cycle. You are right...don't argue. Good luck with the furnace.

  7. Facebook had posts about Bee Day, but thanks, did not know there was a “Day” for that, too. I’ve left the dandelions blooming. Yes, you are right not to argue with Himself. They do not understand any explanation. Drives you crazy, though. I hope the furnace is an easy fix, and low cost.

Sure hope furnace fix is quick and cheap.
Good job not engaging with himself. Cant have a tug of war if the rope is dropped.

  9. Thanks for the interesting information about bees. I did not know that. I have now learned something new today!!!

Smart idea to walk away when himself starts saying things that are not nice. Probably better than getting upset.

Glad Rusty can get out and fixed the furnace. Yes it is nice to have a little heat in the morning until if gets too hot later in a few days/weeks...

    Have a great week-end

  10. Walking away was something my Mom never could master which manifested in additional frustration and grief for both parents and anguish for this daughter trying to assist them on this terrible journey.

An idea you might want to try is that when walking away, walk to your piano and play.

    Hugs.

  13. I knew there is a big problem with the lack of bees now but I didn't know there was a bee day. Good to walk away when himself gets accusatory. Maybe go for a walk or play the piano. Hope the furnace gets fixed ok. I heard tonight that you are having rain and thunderstorms tonight. Take care.

Yes, it's better to walk away when those things happen.
