Yesterday, while I was raking, the lady came over to the fence--The lady who bought the cottage that we used to own--right beside this house--She said that she is taking down that cottage and building a winter home in its place, so, we will eventually have a permanent neighbour. We have so many memories of spending summers in that cottage, with 5 children-- Here is a picture of the cottage.
Himself used to go to clinic out of town , once a week. One Friday night, he came home with 2 chickens. The children named them, "Pecker" and "Cornel Saunders" --- They would follow Son #4 all over--He was about 4 yrs --- These chickens never left the property--survived on wienors from the BBQ all that summer--- Himself returned those 2 chickens at the end of the summer, only to return , Thanksgiving weekend, with 2 fresh chickens, which, tasted like wienors --and we were quite sure the meal, on Thanksgiving , was-- Colonel Saunders and Pecker! --
Another summer, Himself brought 2 Billy Goats , to the cottage , to spend their summer with us. Again they followed Son#4 everywhere, but, in their spare time ate all the flowers around the cottage. So, there are so many memories of summers gone by, in the wee cottage--
One spring, as I was cleaning the cottage, by myself, before school ended and we could move from town to the cottage, I noticed the home beside that cottage was for sale ---and--- this is the place we now live.
Memories, that Moms have, stored way in our brains-- And, to-morrow is Mothers Day---
It is a very cute and perfect sized home. Too bad it can't be just winterized but I suppose it would nearly need re-building to do that anyway.
ReplyDeleteI think that is her idea--- but--- she will rebuild in the same sorta fashion- Lynda
DeleteSuch wonderful memories you have that you also share with us so we can enjoy them too. The picture of the cottage would make a lovely Christmas card. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteIt would make a great card--- Thanks for the idea!-Lynda
DeleteGee, what a nice story that house next door has for you! That picture really does deserve to become a card, or enlarged picture on the walls of your kids, too. Take care!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is quite the job, to get that pump into the water! Thank goodness you can do it though!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a good day and things are progressing toward Summer. Pretty cottage. . . .our children have lots of great memories and stories from Summers at our cottage in Maine.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful memories. We never had a cottage but we did go camping every year with our trailer. We all loved it and made many memories of our trips all over the country.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cozy cottage and a beautiful story. I'm spending the next few days cleaning up the yard too.
ReplyDeletePicture of the cottage looks very nice, And then you will have a neighbour year-round that can maybe help to keep an eye on himself when you go out! Sounds like a lot of work for the pump to get going but all the start of getting into nice weather.
ReplyDeleteI love the memories. We raised chickens a very long time ago when we lived on a farm. We hatched them from fertilized eggs. We kept one rooster who used to chase my oldest daughter all over the place. She was delighted the night we served Rooster Stew!!! I also had two goats for milking. They were such lovely pets but the time came when we had to leave the farm. I have such fond memories of that place too!
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH!! Col Saunders and Pecker . . . NOOOoooooo! What a cute story!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
