The Senility Prayer

Good morning to all--It has to be a good day when yu see the sun!---It is warm outside---  lotza black flies--but it is looking like a grand day is about to begin and we are a part of it! --It is May 24 weekend---  a holiday--

Now isn't the above so true?--Funny how one just lives their life, not realizing how much you mean to someone else's life-- Did you ever stop to think that someone's life would never be the same without you in it?  Even your pet--- where would they ever be without "you"--????---

This evening I go to see another house--one floor--no stairs-My only worry is, how do I go from owning this house, which is not sold yet, to buying that house--before it is sold out from under me?--I shall go to our bank and ask them on Tuesday---so much to think about--

--Remember the above?---  It used to be in a Beatrix Potter book we had as children--There are days  I wish I had time to go back and re-read all those children's books----Remember  "Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz"--- The "Nancy Drew " books--" Grimm's Fairy Tales"----

It is Sunday--a day of rest--  but---- I need to pick up all the scatter mats all over this house --real estate People do not like to see those!----and perhaps get some pictures off the walls here---
---  and there are  20,000 mirrors everywhere in this house-
-You know, if I had my life to live over, I would not have bought so much stuff--The real estate Lady says, "You have a lot of stuff Lynda!"----  well, I'm old and ---you know
! Anyway, I shall, give it my ALL--do what I can---

I must believe in a great power silently working all things for good----It seems odd sometimes, but things usually work out----'specially if we are strong---

Son#2 and family, return home to-morrow--  They  are now back in Lisbon, Portugal--probably fly overnight-back to Canada--I have missed his phone calls--and his texts so much--

I think you might like "The Senility Prayer" below----We all could relate I believe---

The way it works in these parts is one writes an earnest check, to open a contract to buy, contingent on the sale of current house. The earnest check is to indicate a serious desire to buy it. Good luck with everything!

  2. Loved today's inserts. I've never seen the Senility prayer.
Going to look at a practical house. Fingers crossed. Talking to the bank...I'm in the same boat. The how do I do this and how does it work IF you do find the right house...a bit intimidating to me. We shall figure it out. Hoping today's house is something you'd enjoy
We ALL have too much stuff. I purged big when we downsized. I have NOT missed anything I got rid of. A decluterred house is more appealing to buyers. It looks larger. A friend of mine rented a storage unit for her extra furniture to make her house look larger when it was for sale.
in the end, she had an estate sale and got rid of it anyway.. You'll get there. You can do it. An estate sale may be the fastest, easiest way to sell unwanted furniture, mirrors, clocks. You'd only tag what you are taking and the estate sale folks handle the rest. You'll figure out what's right for you but GET HELP...in one form or another. We always "think" the kids want the treasures we've held onto for years...truth is they don't.
Have a great day. Happy you have sun and better temps.
    Hugs

  3. Lynda, anyone coming to look at your house are looking at the house, not your belongings. Don't let that worry you.

We do accumulate a lot over the years, I know I always loved to shop and always saw something that my house 'needed', lol. But I downsized considerably with this last move. I found over the years that I just did not need 'things' and find it easy to let go of them now. It takes time to come to that.

I love the Senility Prayer, that one made me laugh, lol.

Beauiful day here, lots of fireworks at night and I wish those would be done away with, pets are so scared of the noise.

Nothing doing with me, I do look forward to your daily blogs and though I don't reply often, I always read and enjoy! Don't ever stop writing them, my friend.

Hugs, Gloria from SW Ontario. xoxo

    1. Gloria--- I am SO discouraged--- I went to see the house--nice inside-- not totally not good for Fred as is on 2 levels with steep stairs--but--I cannot even put an offer in as this house is not sold-and no hope of it selling yet--not even a sign on it---I am so tired!--Maybe we are just too old to go thru all this--Maybe we should just stay here--The Real Estate Lady calls all our things--"junk"-- and to get it out--to the dumpster--It is our life inside here--Its not junk-I am about ready to dump the real estate Lady ---but--Ive signed a contract for 6 mos--- Phil, our Policeman son, thinks she is saving it for a friend , so telling me all this stuff about having to empty the house before she puts a sign on it--YU know I am tired of their games--All I want is a sign out by the gate telling people its for sale and she will not do it-so--maybe we should just stay here-- -- Anyway I loved reading your note and I do appreciate you writing to-nite--I needed to hear from you--Thank yu--Hugs, Lynda

    2. Hi Gloria--- I am SO so happy to hear from you! -- Ive had such a day with the Real Estate girl--To me, it seems they play games--asking me to take all the rugs out--the mats -- and call the junk man and he will take it to the dump-- IT"S OUR BELONGINGS-- Isn't that terrible?-- And there is no sign up --no FOR SALE sign--Yu know, maybe we should just stay here--I am so tired of their games! Phillip , our Policeman son, thinks she must have a friend who wants to buy this place but needs to sell their place--so is stalling-- Anyway, I am very happy that yu wrote--lynda

    3. Lynda, is there no way you can get out of that 6 months contract? What if your policeman son let her know he's your son and that she needs to put a for sale sign on your house?? Just an idea.
Darn, it does sound like she is stalling for her own reasons, whatever they are.
Got to tell you ... when I left my husband and our nice home, he lived in it one year by himself before he sold it. I saw pictures the real estate put on it's site when advertising it for sale and I felt so embarrased, it was a mess!! Dining room table was no longer cleared off nicely, he had it piled with junk, kitchen table full of junk, etc. He didn't want to sell and was stalling, he didn't want to leave our home ~~ well neither had I wanted to leave!! He physically abused me and there was no way I would or could stay with him. My lawyer dickered with his about selling because it was our matrimonial home and I needed the money from the sale. I took no furniture other than my bed, no dishes, pots & pans, nothing! Just my clothes and own belongings like that.
Anyhow, I got off track here, sorry, lol.
I'd get my sons to look into why no for sale sign, and to lay off calling your belongings junk, etc., there are nice ways to say things.
I'm thinking of you dear friend, I feel so bad for you. You cannot stay there and do all the outside work yourself and even the inside work is too much for you, and it will only get harder & harder for you to handle.
      Please take care of yourself.
      Hugs and love, Gloria xoxo

  4. It's Kathy - I LOVE The Senility Prayer, how true is that. There are so many people I have had to put up with in my lifetime because they were "family" - like all of Tom's siblings and his step daughter. Well, apparently Tom didn't do what they expected him to do (be the caretaker of their very unhealthy mom) so they stopped talking to us. It's been 7 years now and it's been the BEST 7 years of our marriage! I'm glad your son's family are returning. My youngest son travels a lot and I'm always so glad when I know he's only a few miles away instead of thousands of miles! Have a good day, Lynda!

  5. Absolutely loved the lady in her bunny slippers! She looks so happy to have her cuppa tea or coffee. I'm usually a coffee drinker but have switched to tea recently for the health benefits - clearing my arteries! I also absolutely loved the Senility Prayer. Especially since I have cataracts and half the time my eyes aren't fully seeing what they should. Oh stuff and I go way back. But the main stuff I need to get rid of is from my husband's business back when people still used VCRs. He was the VCR repair person in the area. And also repaired camcorders until they got too small for him to work on. I have all of his tools but also all the chips, processors and other paraphernalia still and it will go when I hire a skip (with my Handyman) and the handyman will be in charge of dumping it all in and also clearing out the back shed of old VCRs that were used for parts. It won't be hard letting those things go. But there's plenty of my own stuff I try to pare down and get out to the car so it can be dropped off at the thrift shop. One day, I'll be finished with that job. I can't imagine how nice that will be!! Enjoy your holiday.

  6. You made me smile, as usual. Love Beatrix Potter, and that senility quote is adorable.
Does the one floor house at least have a basement? Hope all goes well with it!
You may need to find a consignment shop to give those mirrors, rarely worn clothes, old but decent condition furniture, unused dishes, etc. to. A consignment shop pays you money when the items are sold.
They may even come to pick up stuff for you.
Warmer and sunny here. 80sF and sunny predicted for this week.
It will be a busy one for me...at least at the end. 2 outings at the end.
I'm about to watch my grandson's graduation from high school. I thought it was the 19th. I got the date wrong. The 19th was in my mind cuz that's the day my bitty retirement check comes. Another senior moment.
Hope the day and the whole week is good for you. You will be back in communication with your son.
I believe you said some sons were going to tour the potential new home with you. That's good! They'll be able to help you decide things...like will Himself and Sushi be able to adjust.
    Will look forward to 'hearing' about it! {{{HUGS}}}

  7. Along with the contingency option, the bank may discuss a "bridge loan," which would give you the freedom to move now and then pay back the loan once your house sells.

In the more competitive markets, houses do sell faster when they are clean, uncluttered, and are free of family photos and a lot of personal items. People who are looking to buy want to visualize their own families/furniture/stuff in the space, and not everybody has the imagination to see that if they're touring a home with your photos.

The ideal scenario (to me, anyway), would be to find & move into a new home, then recruit the entire family to help you move and clear out the old house, do a quick paint job; and hire a landscaping company to do a cosmetic refresh (pretty flowers!). In our area and where my parents lived (SF Bay Area), it was pretty much expected to have the home "staged" (a company comes in with nice furniture & decor) -- it definitely paid off with the family home, as it sold for $75,000 over the asking price.

I hope today's place is a better fit for you and Himself than the last few. Fingers crossed!

  9. What great thoughts! For sure we are everything to those in our world!

I hope you get things sorted out with the housing. Good you’re going to the bank for advice.

I read all of those books and loved them.

Love the senility prayer. Too funny . . . and TRUE!

  10. Those books built us into the "us" we know today! Ever notice that the generations of children's books have changed? We've gone from Kipling's "Just So Stories" to Dr. Seuss's "Fox in Socks" for our tongue-twisters, but the developmental skills of reading and speaking, moving and thinking keep on keeping on!

Hope things work out for your house hunting and selling and the associated down-sizing required!

  11. Hi Lynda: I think you have to go to your bank and ask for a bridge loan. You have equity in your home so it shouldn't be a problem. Not sure what interest they charge though. Good luck with the one you are looking at. Love all the inserts today. Brenda

  12. Love the “Senility Prayer”! I have been following your blogs and have commented a few times recently BUT it has not posted…guess I’m doing something wrong! We are in the throes of moving…sold our house on the water, dock, pool, yard and moved to a villa… a 3 bedroom ranch style home where you are not responsible for any outdoor work! At our ages, it has been rough! I really can very much relate to what you are going thru! Good luck, my friend! ❤️ Eissa7

  13. Start picking stuff to donate...do you have someone who would come pick it up if you box it?
I donated a whole box truck full just to lighten my load and only tried to keep the things that were really special to me....I cannot even bring my curio cabinets in the house and put my angels out to enjoy.
    I'm kinda rethinking living here
