Everything usually works out for the best!

Good morning----  on a rainy  day here-- Yu gotta love the rain-- I hear there are now 30 active fires in the Northeast, which is where we live-
Early, before 8am, I drove to the Nappa store--and Bill strung my 3 whipper snippers--I drove in the rain--and it is still raining--  Security to me is having yer weed whackers working!---  Lord love a Duck! How one's priorities change as we age!---

I have been vacuuming--Vacuuming here is a daily event--Beau's dog hair is the reason--By the time I finish, it is close to lunch time. Yesterday I made home made soup, and we shall have that again for lunch-- We also went to very expensive grocery store yesterday afternoon, and bought fresh bread and a few items I cannot buy at No Frills where I usually shop----Groceries have gone up again in price--I bought one of those enormous watermelons to the tune of $12.99 ----  one that you must chop up to fit in the frig----It seems  we only spend our $$ on groceries and gas for the vehicle- I realize we are fortunate to get these items, but I notice our $$$ do not go as far as they used to.

I do buy a few items which I remember my Mom never buying--for instance, we never ever had cookies from the store--  no chips either--  We made popcorn instead--If we wanted something sweet, we had to make cookies or a cake--We always had plenty of oranges however  to munch on  and I remember always making popcorn--Mom and her expressions eh?--She must've heard those expressions, like " Lord love a Duck"--from her Mom--she never owned a pair of Jeans--always "House dresses"--was not a "huggy" person-- not really close to me--  but was to my older and younger sister I think--Dad and I were closer!

So--how on earth are all those thoughts are running thru my head--You were asking when our daughter arrives--early July--Presently she is home, in Ohio, with a severe case of Shingles--poor girl!--  She says she will for sure get the Shingles vaccine when she can--I have had shingles, but never a badly as she is--  Mine was in a line going up my face--hers is wrapped around her chest--from the front and now to her back, even with the anti viral meds and it is very painful--

Sometimes I have to decide to make your day special--remind myself that I can do everything --Mom's expression--"Where there's a will, there's a Way!"----- ( Well, I am not able to restring the weed whackers!)--but, then there is  "BILL" --who gladly gives me a hand--so, there is a ""way""--LOL--

  1. Hey I made it finally! I stayed up to chat with my sister in Georgia. She's 73 and has been hiking lately and is very proud of the walks she's had. But she lives in a shared house and the younger women there all think she's Bossy and runs everything. Probably because she knows generally what to do and does it. lol! So today I went out and got rye bread (good price too) and some carrots for soup I was making today. Then I went to the post office and sent off Marvin's card! I know mine is a straggler, but I hope that he enjoys it. I finally decided my writing on envelope was just too bad (I have a tremor) and printed a piece of paper and taped it over my handwriting. At least I am sure it's going to get there. The soup - a ham soup from frozen ham stock, a couple of ham steaks I had and lots of veg like carrots, potato, celery, cabbage and mushrooms. What a nice concoction that turned out to be. Now I just have to get into the kitchen and clean up from my cooking spree. Like you, I'll have soup for lunch and then will freeze the rest for an easy dinner one night. I love soup and it's really cold and rainy right now - so perfect time for it! Hugs and I'm staying strong so you do too! ❤️

  2. It's rainy here in NH but not particularly cold . . . I think about 60 F the last time I looked. We are having some Swedish Meatballs for dinner tonight . . . I have had a yen for some recently so today is the day to make them. I thought my grocery bill was going up again . . . it is kind of hard to tell because some weeks I have laundry soap and non perishables also along with food and sometimes more meat depending on what I am cooking.

I am making burgers and corn on the cob this evening. Thst will be good, too. Enjoy your day. Yes, we must stay strong!

  4. It's Kathy - so sorry for your daughter. My mom had shingles while she was traveling. Said it was the worst thing she ever had to deal with. I wasn't very close with her either. I was the strong willed child, she preferred my younger sister who never got dirty, never talked back and never got into trouble... until she grew up. Then she was quite a handful! I'm so glad you're getting rain, I hope it helps with the fires! Our forecast says we might have rain on Friday night - I sure hope so!

  5. Lynda, I have found, too, that as I get older I need to ask for help more often. To be fair to myself, I often help others, too. It's a fact of life, I guess. But I learned long ago, as in the old country song by John Michael Montgomery, "you do have to give if you want to receive."
The cost of our groceries is going up here, too. And rent, too. When I moved here in 2018, my rent was $319. It's a subsidized low income building for seniors. Now my rent is $530. And cat food! The boxes of Fancy Feast were about $6...now almost $10!
I know part is due to covid...fewer transportation workers, deliverers, store personnel, etc. And they have their bills to pay, too. I guess costs nowadays are harder for everyone.
Now for the good stuff! Lovely day here, partly sunny, small breeze, no rain. It's only in the 60sF but will be warmer this afternoon. Tomorrow or Thursday it is due to get much hotter again.
Now it's off to the store for more watermelon and my favorite pens for the 'journaling' I do after I meditate each afternoon. Coming back to do my exercises. My Lucky always 'helps' me with them. Laying right beside me or, if I am on my exercise bike, getting up on his cat tree right behind the bike, pawing at me. Love! Whenever a thought that makes me feel bad comes to mind, I think of how much I love him!
    Happy birthday, belated, to your brother and prayers for your darling daughter (and for my son-in-law that had 2 more toes removed due to infection). {{{HUGS}}}

  6. Oh, my goodness, yes. My tub of non-fat Greek yogurt that used to be $5.99 is now $7.99, and a basketful that used to cost about $40 now totals about $70... but we do have to eat to live, right?

I do hope your daughter's case of the shingles is healed up proper before she comes to you, so she and you can enjoy the visit better!

  7. So sorry for your daughters shingles, so painful and miserable, a gift from the lord, whoever that is. Glad you shopped, got good bread. We are having bad hail storms, lots of damage. But Friday, record high heat will hit for over a week, over 107 every day. Yikes! Summer. In Texas. Take care of you weed eating now…

  8. Hi! Maybe consider a Roomba by iRobot. I just love mine. It does all the vacuuming and I just sit and watch it. I have vinyl plank flooring now, but did have carpet previously. Works like a charm, and I have a dog.

  9. Rainy day here, too, and definitely loving it. Need the rain. And certainly you do with all the wild fires.

Glad you got your whipper snippers strung! PHEW. Yes, priorities change, don’t they.

Love soup and it stretches the budget. And for sure, the budget is continually stretched further and further. *SIGH* But we manage.

So sorry to hear that your DD has such a bad case of Shingles. Even w/the anti-viral! Hope that she gets better soon.

Yes, everything does end up working out. In the meantime, we have to hang on!

    HUGS to you

  10. Thank goodness for Bill the trimmer stringer man.
Soup is great on a rainy day and fresh bread too...so yummy. Like you, we never had store bought cookies or chips. Occasionally we got Cool Aid, never soda. My mom was a great cook and she always baked cakes, pies, coffee cake, donuts and even homemade carmel corn.
That must be a whopper watermelon. I agree that most of the budget goes to groceries and gas.
I sure hope your daughter makes a speedy recovery. Poor girl.
Have a good day. Play your piano.
    Hugs
