Everything happens for a reason--

Good morning--yes, life is very precious--- we do not have sunshine to-day-----and it is cooler--a lot cooler----I put a wee jacket on Lopez , and we "hoofed" it up the road- as Dad used to say--- and--- guess what?-- A HUGE FLOCK OF CANADA GEESE flew quite low--right over our head-I could hear them honking, before I could see them--- I thought it was a neighbour'd radio-- and then, over the trees, they appeared, all in their V-like formation----

You know what that means?-----an early harsh winter----all I could say was, "Oh no--Oh no", as I was standing on the back road looking up--

I looked online about  these Canada Geese--  It says they fly at an altitude of about 3,000 ft., in a formation  flight. Their survival rate is 10 to 24 years-- with  a spring and a fall migration--  Because  of their long flights,  after measuring their thyroid hormones, they found  the thyroid hormones to be elevated --such as the T3 and T4-- This apparently helps their body cope with the long journey as well as gives them more muscle mass. They mate for life----are monogamous all their lives-- If one mate dies  they find  another mate-- The female lays 2---9  eggs --average is 5   --and both parents  protect the eggs--  the egg incubation  is 24 to 32 days  with the goslings are protected by both parents till after the Spring migration--

All I thought I knew about these huge flocks of geese, was----  when we see them flying over---it tells us winter is on the way--and in the Spring, we are SO SO happy to see them return, as we know warmer weather is on the way--

We love the geese arriving-----  quite a few landed this summer on our grass, going down to the lake--and they really really made a mess-- 9 geese- and it took me hours to pick  up 92 poops--and I know I missed some--

Anyway---I must get busy here--Humming birds are less every day--YEAHHHHHH-----Winter is coming---   You know, I think I shall even pick up the hoses---

No time to feel sorry for ourselves-- stay stronger than strong----  hava great day---

just remember---------

  1. Happy Friday! It is cloudy and 64 here in Ohio! Interesting geese information. Thanks for sharing. I have read that it will be colder and more storms this winter. I go Monday to finish my dental work! I will go back two weeks after that to get the real crown on and then officially done! I can’t wait. Haven’t felt well this werk so not looking forward to a stressful situation but making myself go! I hope you have a lovely weekend! Hugs!

  2. It's very cool here, too. Just 57F. It is mostly sunny, though.
I see geese sometimes, but not yet. We have lots of busy squirrels. Not as many feral cats since the manager made us stop feeding them. She says the food will draw other wild critters, too...including rats. Come to think of it, we have no manager now so we could fee them again.
Only today, Saturday and part of Sunday of my pet sitting remains. I will be good to have it over. Love the girls and their pets, but it is a chore 3 times a day to make a 15 minute drive one way with traffic to their home.
Went to put a load of laundry in and someone else is in the laundry room. We have 2 washers, but only 1 dryer is working. That's for 30 apartments!
There is karaoke tomorrow, but I doubt we will go. Do not even know who the deejay is. I would have to get their late due to my evening run with Cheryl and Leann's pets.
I can use the time at home to my advantage.
    Here's hoping we all make ourselves a good day! {{{HUGS}}}

  3. Good morning!
I am not a winter person and I am so sad to see summer leaving. I have the most wonderful flower garden and have enjoyed the heat. My bones are just happier…
I saw some geese flying over the house yesterday. My hummingbirds seem to be fueling up. I guess it is time….. boo hoo. Not happy thinking about shoveling snow. Yet, we are lucky that we are breathing and seeing the changes.
    Have a great day.

  4. It's Kathy. That's very interesting about the geese. I heard some flying over us just the other day. Our weather has finally returned to what it's suppose to be this time of year, feels really nice! But a little chilly in the house - had to put on a flannel shirt this morning. Not ready to haul out the long sleeved t-shirts yet!

  5. I know what you mean about the goose poop... the lakes around here have lots of geese, and yes, you have to watch your step!

Thankfully the smoke from the fires in Western Canada is starting to clear out down here. We've had three days in a row of high AQI number, "dangerous" for old people and those with breathing conditions. But it's lifting now. Grateful!

    1. This really was a bad year for fires--a forest fire used to be rare--not anymore-- and yes-- I never saw so much poop from 9 geese in my life--Lynda

  6. Like the insert about sometimes later becomes never.
Everything does happen for a reason but often we will never know the reason. We just have to have faith and trust it will be OK.
Interesting facts on geese. All I know is they poop A LOT. Thanks for enlightening us.
Someone said Farmers Almanac predicted a harsh winter with lots of snow for my area. Not my plan. Hope its wrong. I hate to think of you out there again fighting it. Hopefully, thats months and months away.
Give the fur kids a pat from me. Hoping Sushi is doing well.
Take care. Play your piano for the pups.
