Please try the trainer first before euthanizing Lopez. It is the right thing to do. (And I am more than sad that evil man & his cronies) have hijacked my country. Ransom will be paid no doubt).
ReplyDeleteDeb--Yu are so good--Yes I have hired the trainer--I hope she is good--Lynda--Nice to hear from yu-Lynda
DeleteIt's Kathy. I think it is worth your time and money to see if you can't train little Lopez to not bite. You would really miss him. I'm sorry you have yet another thing to deal with. I watched the inauguration this morning and I am very pleased that Trump is now our President. Our country has not been in very good shape for awhile now - and I personally have not been happy with all the changes that have been made. So for me, it's an opportunity to see if anything can change! I don't usually share my feelings about this - most of my children would not agree with me. But then, I've lived at least 24 years longer than any one of them! It's still cold here and we still don't have information from the plumber - he said by Monday morning and here it is, Monday afternoon. My husband has to call him!!! I hope you are having a good day!
ReplyDeleteKathy Yu are a "Trump fan"---I'm afraid to tell yu but Canadians are not big fans of him--LOLOL--but--He is your President--- We have different Politics here-- very British here-- LOL----We had Trudeau but he is on his way out--Politics is a messy business eh?--Lynda
DeleteI wouldn't say I'm a "fan". Yes, politics are messy and I don't believe anything they tell me. But I do believe that Trump is a good businessman and just may be able to help us get out of the hole that we are in. And Yes, things are very different in Canada than they are in the US. I visited Norway several years ago, where 3 of my grandparents came from - things are very different there too! I hope you've had a good day. The plumber had an emergency so hopefully we'll hear from him tomorrow!
DeleteLynda, of course it's worth the money to train Lopez. If you love him. He is only guarding. I am sure that is something an experienced trainer can help him with. The other alternative is maybe coaxing him out of his bed before you pick him up.
ReplyDeleteI am glad your son is almost back.
SO cold here! Way below freezing. There is a cold weather advisory (it has been going on for days) until tomorrow at noon. It will not suddenly get warm then, of course, but will not be so bitter and have an icy wind.
I have got a grocery order on the way in a couple hours and one tomorrow from Walmart. I will have everything I need. A full tank of gas, too.
Love the idea that Trump could have a trainer! Also the Shakespeare quote.
My favorite quote for today is Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that."
I am sure you will let us know how it goes with the trainer. Hope she is one that trains with love and praise, not punishment.
Have you ever seen this American tv show: https://www.youtube.com/@DogWhispererShow/videos ? Just copy and past that link if you haven't.
All for now, sis. Will check back later, of course.
Get some relaxation in if you can...music, nap with a book, etc.
{{{HUGS}}} Love, Maggie
Yes the Dog Whisperer needs to deal with Lopez--I love the litlle guy--Hope this Lady can help him--I have bites all over me-- Lynda
DeleteCould you send Lopez to Trump? They seem made for one another!
ReplyDeleteOMG---- GREAT IDEA! YU cracked me up!--- I shall send Lopez to the white House--Lynda
DeleteHello!
ReplyDeletePlease go with the trainer. Maybe even a few different trainers if the first one doesn’t work. Lopez does not understand what he does.
I am very excited for our new President. We need to move forward. Our past years have been disappointing.
Jacquie
Jacquie--I hope Trump works out --- Lynda--
DeleteHi Lynda! So sorry to hear Lopez bit you, again. I would have the trainer to work with him. I would not put him down. If you don’t try the trainer, you will always wonder. Trump is beyond training. That is out of the question! LOL It is very cold in Ohio! Hope your evening is nice! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteCold here also--- VERY cold!--I will give this Lady a call --to see if she will till come--Lynda
DeleteLynda, please try working with the trainer. There must be a reason that in the time Lopez has been with you, it seems he has only bitten you, so there must be something that you do unconsciously that is triggering him. I would suggest that you stop picking him up. Call to him and allow him to jump out of his bed. The same if he occasionally sits in your lap,
ReplyDeleteallow him to jump up. Please do not think of putting him down. You love him and you've had him since he was a wee pup. If his behavior does not change after working with the trainer, contact an animal rescue group for him. Hope it all works out.
Maureen from California
Oh Maureen thank yu so much-- no--I desperately do not want to put Lopez down--Hope this Lady can help--Lynda
DeleteI hope you and himself are staying warm today - it's quite cold here and is to be getting colder in the next 24-48 hours. They're telling everyone to let the water run a bit overnight to stop freezing pipes from happening.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that Lopez is struggling, and that you are suffering because of it. I hope that the trainer can help you both out!
As for he who shall not be named in the White House ... no amount of training will ever help with that hot mess. They say with most of the nation in this freeze that hell has truly frozen over that he's back in the White House. Lord help us all!
LOL--Kimberley--Yu made me LOL-- Yes Heaven help us all eh?---and it is cold here-- Lynda
DeleteHow old is Lopez?
ReplyDeleteLopez is about 3yrs--We got him at about 4 mos-- Lynda
DeleteLynda, I can only say that is a personal decision to spend the $$$ for a trainer. BUT . . . if Lopez were mine, I’d sure go that route before putting him down. And I hope that the trainer works with Himself, too. Can’t have Lopez scared of his cane since he NEED that for WALKING (NOT disciplining Lopez0. Just my thoughts. I think you would regret not trying the training. I know I would.
ReplyDelete**SIGH** Yes the 47th not-my-president was sworn in today. Lots of prayers as it’s going to be a rocky road ahead. We DO need to move forward . . . .with peace and good leadership!
For sure, DJT has gotten much advice but has ignored most of it, unfortunately. We shall see what happens going forward.
Bitter cold here. And not going out much at all. Tomorrow we have an extreme cold weather advisory to last all day. So . . . hibernating, fire in the fireplace.
HUGS and DO move forward w/the dog trainer. The worst that can happen is it doesn’t work, then you have to move onto plan B (another trainer maybe?)
Hugs and blessings

Thanks Barb--I appreciate so much yer suggestions-- Thank yu-Lynda
DeleteAs the hu-mom to another pup who had puppy biting issues... I would say look into training, by all means! I had "hamburger" for arms the first six months of Ember's life. She started to catch on to bite inhibition, and what helped me most was Susan Garrett (Canadian dog handler/trainer of trainers) and her Recallers Online program. You can get it for less than the retail price. Look her up on YouTube, channel name "DogsThat". I think your in person lady might be good, too, as she can observe how you and Himself interact with Lopez and help you change your human behavior to help Lopez learn some self-control. But it will REALLY help if your Himself works the same program.
ReplyDeleteYes true--i shall really look into all yer suggestions as I want to kerep the wee guy--Lynda
DeleteP.S. She has several different training programs, various lengths and prices and a lot of her stuff is available free on her YouTube channel.
ReplyDeleteOf course, give a trainer a try. Do not reach in his bed to pick him up...call him to you. I'm sorry he bit you AGAIN.
ReplyDeleteThe Shakespeare writing...fabulous..thank you.
It's bitterly cold here...not safe to go out. Some kind of arctic something. This is day 2 of the extreme winds and low temps.
I know you aren't supportive of our new President but something has to change. I don't know what he can do but I'm hoping things don't get worse. Who would want to be President...yikes.
Happy Matt's on the way back.
Any luck finding a day program for Doc?
Be safe and warm
Big hugs, love and blessings
Marge/St.Louis
Yes Marge We have the day program--- and it is close by-- No Canadians do not like TRUMP--but--he isn't our president--and right now , our Prime Minister is not so good-- crazy Politics --Lynda

ReplyDeleteAnother Lopez alternative would be to rehome him if the trainer things doesn't work out for y'all.
We had two sessions with a trainer on a previous dog. Trainer dropped us because both of us were not agreeable to follow her instructions. Still not on the same page with dogs we have had since then!
KC the Sunshine Dog freaks at a stick of any kind & flyswatters & people with raised hands -- suspect abuse before we got him at age 3. He gets really agitated at my cane and hiking staff but does fine when I use my walker. Might consider switching DH to a walker instead of the cane. I use a 3-wheel walker indoors (easier to clear narrow doorways) and my 4-wheel walker when away from home. Both offer so much more stability than a cane.
Good luck with things,
Susan, Central Texas
Susan--very happy to hear from yu-- Yes I feel sorry for little Lopez--He lives in feae of Freds cane-- Ill try this woman--then decide-- Hope it will workout--Thank yu for your suggestions-- I appreciate them-Lynda
DeleteWas out of touch for a few days, getting caught up. The neuropathy could be caused by medication or diabetes. My mother developed it from her chemotherapy and took gabapentin to help. Is Fred diabetic? Definitely something that needs to be mentioned to a doctor. Temporary neuropathy can become permanent rather quickly. Lisa/Straitlover
ReplyDeleteTry the trainer, Lynda. Trump ain’t worth a trainer, he needs to marry Putin, commie rat! Never kept any vow he ever made in his sorry life! Insane drug user now, too. Your new place is so nice, too bad you did not move sooner, it is a lesson to us! Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteRD in AZ here I would try the trainer but I know that some pups are just prone to bite in that case you may have to be retrained to let Lopez do things on his terms but I would rehome before I put down
ReplyDeleteI hope this works because I know that I would have to rehome a dog that bites I just can not have that with a disabled one around
Your trainer would be able to help you deal with Lopez’s problem.
ReplyDeleteMarti here. Yes, try training first. Make sure they are a firm, but kind trainer. We tried all kinds with our psycho Shiba Inu, ended up rehoming, but he cornered the new people and had to be put down. I don't think your dog is a psycho dog like ours was. It CAN be very hard to follow the rules that they set for you, however. You have to be firm with them, forever, and not be wishy washy with them, or they will take over.
