KUNG HEI FAT CHOY

"KUNG  HEI  FAT CHOY"-----Happy New Year --which this year, is Sunday, January 22nd-- The new Year celebrations, in China, last 15 days------
It is the year of the rabbit--The rabbit  symbol.  represents--intellect and cautiousness----If you were born this year,  you might be very intelligent-- but cautious--

The Chinese New Year,  is known as the Spring  Festival. Each year  is linked with a different animal--

When one goes to a Chinese restaurant, you will notice a lot of "red"---  red means good luck --and the colour "red" scares away the evil spirits-- Himself always told me, that the children in his family always received red envelopes, from their relatives and parents, with money inside---  He said he remembers his Father, getting together with many Chinese people and they spent days and days, gambling--and playing cards--with huge feasts, roasting a pig, and eating and drinking all day and night.

So, that is a little bit of our Chinese culture-- Did you know that Jamaica, where Himself is from, has many Chinese? Himself's father emigrated to Jamaica from China--

The Chinese people in Jamaica, are mostly business people--Above is his Dad, Mom, and his sisters family-  Himself's father owned a grocery wholesale business, as well as a gas station, a bakery, and a grocery store, in the town of Lucea, which was a small village along the coast, from Montego Bay, on the way to Ochos Rios, which was not developed when I used to visit.

Of course  Chinese people in Jamaica always have enormous families. I remember on Sunday, many many cars would pull into their drive, in Lucea, Jamaica, and every window in the car had a little face looking out.---

I have no idea how I got into all this-- I was out blowing snow, as we had about 6-8 inches of snow which fell overnight----

This was Himself, many moons ago--long before I met him--a very kind generous wonderful man---and just look what happened?-
Lord love a Duck eh??--
--

AND----- the weekend is nearly here---  STAY STRONG---- I know you will--because we have to keep moving FORWARD!

Cannot believe that you had the energy to tackle yet another snow dumping…you are definitely in shape! AND, yes…forward progression, however you manage, is the goal! Hope your Friday is calm and uneventful! ❤️ Eissa7

  3. Happy Chinese New Year to you too! Thanks for the interesting background on the holiday and Fred's family! Sounds like you have already put in a full day's work with all that snow blowing! Going forward has been my mantra since my sweet husband died. You can't keep looking back and trying to live back there....you must go forward "one step at a time" and "one day at a time". Have a great week-end!

  6. Happy Chinese New Year to you and Fred. What a large family. You sure have had a lot of snow this year. And they say winter is showing up more starting later next week! Hopefully someone shows up to help you with the snow. You have a lot more energy and ability than I do. Be careful and don't hurt yourself.

  7. Very interesting about the Chinese/Jamaican people.
My ancestors are from the British Isles...mostly Scotland. Mom used to say we were Scots Irish.
I guess our snow is done for a while. The temperature will be below freezing at night for many days to come.
The weekend is here. I don't know if I feel up to karaoke with my friends tomorrow, though. Maybe for just a couple hours. I will see how the handicapped lady I take there feels. She is always so afraid of falling on the snow and ice with her walker.
I went shopping today. Our local supermarket had bananas $.19 per pound! Also a wild caught salmon dinner over brown and wild rice for two for $10. I will nuke some veggies to go with it and eat good suppers for a couple days.
    Let's all try to see the positive side of thins and have a great weekend! {{{HUGS}}}

  9. KUNG HEI FAT CHOY to you and yours as well! In two more years it will be the year of the dragon, and then I'll celebrate, eh? I used to wear a dragon t-shirt to Dr. Chang's class, and he would tease that I was telling him my age. He also used to joke that the telephone company was omnipotent!

And yes, the little free libraries around here are putting out red envelopes or at least one of them is. Tradition! What would we do without it?
