I can't believe how old people my age are.

We have had about 6 inches of snow fall, overnight--The Chihuahua, Lopez, and I were out-- He decided to go back into the house--poor wee fellow-- No way was he going to wade out onto the back road!- I encouraged him to walk to the shed--and he pee-ed--  but--that was it!-- I suppose I will have to blow a bit of snow--- not too much, as the snow on all the ice might stop me from falling--

So, Feb, 21st  is to-day--  It is International Mother Language Day--a day to raise awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism--  I never heard of that before.

It is also National Pancake Day---  Now, I have heard of that!--- My Dad always made pancakes on this day, and we would smother them with butter  (Well-margarine!)-------and  syrup--maple syrup if we had it! --  Growing up, we never had real butter-- Mom bought these boxes of white margarine and it had a small orange round ball in it-

-Our job was to break the round ball, allowing the colour to mix in with the pure white margarine, in this bag, and if we pressed and pressed the bag, the colour would spread to all the bag--and eventually, the margarine was all yellow. Do any of you remember doing that???----  Sometimes too, thinking Mom would not notice, I'd somehow get the small orange ball out of the plastic bag of white margarine, and put the orange ball on my hair--thinking it would give me some sort of highlights---  Crazy!------

--People my age have a wealth of knowledge about --"The olden days"---  My sister and I used to think our Grandparents lived in the "Olden Days"---  that is what we called those long gone days--And, guess what?---  People my age, I realize now, lived in those days---  the "olden Days"---  I just can't believe  that people my age  are that old now! ----but, we are "wise" too--- most of the time!

Sadie  (who is really me!)_was here yesterday  and worked her way thru 2 rooms in this house--Hopefully I can get one more room on this level dusted and cleaned--a difficult task when we have snow outside to  move---But, you know, Snoopy really has the right idea-- just lie down and dream a bit--  think a lot---  and achieve a good day---Always make everyday special---

  1. Yes, it is definitely hard to believe that we are now the people who lived in the olden days!! Cannot believe that you had 6 More inches of snow fall….I guess you get accustomed to almost daily shoveling in the winter?? I am in the middle of the chaos of packing/moving…not enjoying it one bit as I need orderly…but, it shall pass, right!
Hope you have a peaceful day…let’s not focus on the struggles but enjoy the good in this day! ❤️ Eissa7

  2. I remember the white margarine with the yellow ball and mixing the color in so it looked like butter. My mom always let me do it because for me it was a lot of fun. Thanks for the memory. We have a windy day today but no snow so far. There is a weather watch for tomorrow bringing snow, ice pellets and freezing rain. Happy Tuesday.

  3. Please be careful going out the snow which is over the ice . . . it will still be very slippery. Did you ever got those stabilicers for your shoes? We are expecting a couple of inches tonight here in NH but a bigger storm is coming the end of the week with about a foot of snow . . . Spring isn't here yet.

  4. Boy, I remember those margarine packs. Used to have to do that. Maybe that's why I have always used butter as an adult! You sure get a lot of snow. Why don't you leave it for a while to see if someone else comes to do it. You hired someone else new to do it after your neighbour backed out, right? Take it easy for a while and relax!

  5. BWAHAHAHA! Laughing @ you taking that small orange ball out of the margarine, and putting it in your hair! Sounds like something I would have thought of. Our margarine (or oleo, as Grandma called it) didn’t have that.

Yes, when we get to be in this age category, we ARE loaded with wisdom we have collected over the years. It’s kind of nice.

And definitely, be careful removing snow. I tend to leave a little layer over ice as it doesn’t make it a little less slick w/boots on.

  7. I remember hearing and reading about the orange stuff in the margarine, but when we got to America in 1950, we did not have it, as I recall. They did have that in Germany. There was still an ice box in the kitchen then, though. And a kitchen sink with a pump for water. That ice under the snow can be a ER visit for someone, mark my words! Watch out. Poor Lopez, his breeder obviously is in it for the money only! I hope you can move soon. Safely.

  8. I vaguely remember the margarine with the orange dye balls. That was back when agriculture was more important in the political world and the dairy lobby was strong. People mustn't have access to something that looked just like butter but wasn't, so it had to be sold undyed and hand blended at home. How times have changed...

Be careful with all that ice underneath the snow, it is deceitful!

  9. Be careful out there....ice under that snow. .maybe someone will come by and remove it for you....maybe....hope so.
I liked the orange ball for a hair highlighter story. I don't recall mixing an orange ball ever but I'm a tad younger. Margarine was always yellow.
Be safe if you must go out. Stay in if you can.

  10. And is the US it is Fat Tuesday...the day before Ash Wednesday. Lots of people eat paczkis ...like a jelly filled donut dusted with powdered sugar.
We, as well as a lot of Northern Central states are under a sever blizzard warning. It's been snowing here for several hours. It's not supposed to end here 'til noon tomorrow. Up North, in the Minneapolis area, it will still be going on.
Don't work Sadie too hard. Your health and comfort are important, too. And moving snow is pretty hard at our age and limberness.
My Sadie (me) will be doing laundry tomorrow, Isn't it strange...there are always dishes to wash, clothes to wash (or fold), pets to clean up after (and love)...things just keep repeating themselves!
    Hope you all are fine and will have a great rest of your day! {{{HUGS}}}

  11. It's Kathy. My mom only bought margarine too but I now only buy butter. We don't use it all that much but studies have proven that it's important for our bodies to have some fat each day. We are expecting 18 inches of snow beginning earlier this evening and going strong until Thursday night. Daisy will be so mad come morning! Most schools are closed too. My class was cancelled for Wednesday night and I'm relieved because I have no desire to go anywhere!
