There is good news in March--Lord love a Duck!

I have good news------ March is  4 days away----AND----- You know what is going to happen in March?-

Now, you all are saying--"Well, it is not here yet"----but-----SPRING BEGINS MARCH 20, 2023---and----that is a wee bit more than 2 weeks away-- FINALLY-----  the snow might stop falling--in fact, it might even melt-- Lord love a Duck!

The official day that  Spring begins, changes from year  to year-- (I never knew that)- It is called , "The vernal Equinox", and  that date marks the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator from South to North.  The official date  changes  from March 21st to March 20th  . It has to do with the earth's  revolution around the sun. The earth takes about 365 .5 days to complete a revolution around the sun . The extra quarter of a day (about 6 hours)  is partly the reason the official date varies.

When I was in Public school,  we had a verse we used to sing-- It went like this---

Spring has Sprung

The grass has riz

I wonder where the bodies iz?

The bird is on the wing

But that's absoid

I thought the wing was on the bird--

AND THERE IS MORE GOOD NEWS___DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME BEGINS ON THE SECOND SUNDAY IN MARCH-----In 2023, that is March 12th----

It is so amazing----  Winter is almost over--- well------almost over---The snowblower--and the shovels can be put away--SOON--- and the hoe and the wheel barrel  can come out--SOON! ---and--- we can dance around that May Pole  ---and -- the Hummingbirds will return-- ( maybe we should load up on the sugar ----  get ready for them-- ) All this is just about too much for me--

Now----did I make your day--or what?

  2. I've been thinking the same thing. I just want to get February out of here. I read yesterday that in the US we will stay on Daylight Savings Time permanently. Not sure how I feel about that one! It's hard enough to get up in the dark of winter, now it will be dark for an hour longer! Have a great day Lynda! Kathy

  3. Just read your blog from yesterday today - and it brought tears to my eyes when I read about your son plowing your drive in the dark. I am behind as I have been really sick....finally went to the dr yesterday and I have a severe sinus infection. I just thought I had a nasty cold and was trying to tough it out and it was a mistake. My eyes got swollen shut, my ears clogged, couldn't breathe through my nose and my chest ached from coughing so hard. Am on antibiotics and cough pearls and finally got to sleep some last night. I will be happy for spring to get here too! And it is nice to wake up to a new day and hopefully a more healthy one! Love your blogs!

  4. I do admit life would be boring without hearing from you each day. Your daily stories and posters can make me laugh, feel happy and bring back many memories of my childhood. You are so honest about life at our age and it makes me feel that I am not alone in the things that I feel. Thanks .

  6. I walk the dog this morning in below zero F temps so I am not feeling like Spring is anywhere near here today. I have a soup in the crockpot for supper and hockey is on TV this afternoon . . . still feels like winter to me. I also looked up the clocks changing here in the US and it is still happening on the 12th (my birthday) and in November they go back . . .no getting rid of the change thing this year as far as I could find.

  10. And Saint Patrick's Day is coming, too Leprechauns, shamrocks and a pot-o-gold at the end of a huge rainbow! If I could send them to you, I would.
All the animals, including your doggies, will be happy to welcome spring...warmer weather, puddles to splash in, squirrels, etc. to chase...and no snow or ice to poop in!
You will have more yard work, but I am sure you will enjoy it more. You will be making your property attractive, growing lovely flowers and feeding hummingbirds!
They finally cleaned our lot, but it snowed again last night. Just 1-2 inches this time. I can deal with that.
Tomorrow is Sunday (Funday). We play bingo in our Community Room for $.05 a card. They winner of each game gets all the dimes and nickels.
A friend who used to live here brought over sloppy joes and potato salad. A good start to dinner. I will add something green in the vegetable department.
Let's make it a fun day for all of us. Maybe you can get in some communication with kids or grandkids, piano playing and/or reading. I just purchased a new book for my kindle.

  13. Marti here. My thoughts exactly. Counting down until Feb is over with, and DST is here (my fav day of the year). I can't really complain though. Here (in Central Ohio) it hasn't snowed ALL Feb and we had two days of record temps. We've had more sun than in Jan too. And we only had like 3" a couple times in Jan and it was quickly melted. I had prayed to God that this winter wouldn't be like last winter, in which I was very nervous of walking, as we had quite a long spell last winter of a lot of snow, with a heavy coat of ice, that lingered. I walk the dog around the loop 3 times a day, and I was always so afraid of falling. I do wear my ice grips in the winter, but with my foot not doing well this winter, that would have been my downfall.

I do hope that by next time this year, you'll be happily tucked into a small home in town or a small condo or whatnot. I think a nice independent living place where there are lots of activities that you could both do together would be nice. I wouldn't mind that myself, LOL

  14. It's hard to think about Spring when it's been so cold and snowy here. We do get a day or two with sun, but then the winter comes back. I am looking forward to getting outside and planting veggies and flowers.

    Have a wonderful weekend!
