I was just wondering-

Good day to all-- The sun is out--no rain--lotza bugs----so, it seems like it is a good day to have a good day-We still have bananas  so I will do some grocery shopping  to-morrow--early! ---I am tired this AM--- so much weed whacking yesterday-- but--it looks good--until it grows--  *S*

Himself was telling me that we pay almost $3.00 a Litre--for gas---  which would be about $10 a gallon in the U.S.--- It makes one think twice before cruising around! -- It just might be cheaper to ride a horse and buggy--Who would ever think that prices could soar like this? We used to have 2 vehicles---It is a good thing that we only own one car now--- All our grown boys have huge trucks--- and they must use a lot of gasoline. A year ago, we never dreamt that  prices of everything would climb so high!

Do any of you ever stop to think how much life has changed --in our lifetime?--My Grandmother and my Mom never did what I do now--like outdoor work--- They baked more--  Mom bought a great deal of oranges-- We never had store bought sweet stuff--it was all home made--Mom taught school  but it seemed she was always home when we got out of school-- wonder how many Mothers are home today-?--Does every generation think  that their lives are so different than their previous generation?--or---  is it just our generation?  Deep thoughts here !

Was there such a thing as Dementia--  or Alzheimer's?---  or were people just labelled as "different" ?--So many questions---Why is it so prevalent to-day?---

It's time to get to work here---Hopefully I can catch a wee nap later on--

I was just wondering about all this ----Lord love a Duck!----Good thing , that in spite of everything--life goes on--  I hope that you get outside and enjoy this day!-----  Hugs coming yer way-

  1. OMG! We pay $5.30/gallon. That makes me think. Don’t know what to say about $10! Lord.

Yes, life has totally changed since I was a kid. Some good, some not so good. Guess that goes w/the territory of change, eh! Oh I do believe that each generation sees their existence as totally different than generations past. And . . . really . . . it is.

I feel so lucky that I could stay home w/the kids while they were growing up. That is a blessing.

Oh I think dementia and Alzheimer’s were around, but probably not diagnosed as much as it is today. AND with all the changes in food and the environment that we are dealing w/today, probably the # of people w/these challenges has increased. The food we eat is not the same as our parents or grandparents. The air we breathe, either.

HUGS and here's to a good weekend.

  2. I remember someone telling me that if we live long enough we'll all be likely to develop some form of dementia. As a retiree, I have "reminders" posted in strategic spots to help me remember... calendar with appointments, daily "jot it down" notebook for weight, temperature, and whether I took my a.m. eye drops (the step I'm most likely to skip or fail to remember that I did!) Routine is my friend!

As for gas prices: the sign said $4.74 yesterday when I drove to the grocery store. I have $1.46 in store rewards, which takes it down to $3.28 a gallon if I filled right then. It changes every day. I feel blessed to have a little car that only sips gasoline, but STILL... it's not going to be just ME buysing gas for my little car, it's the huge trucks that bring the food to the store. Causing a grocery trip that used to cost $40 to now cost $60, or what used to run $75 to cost $98. Deciding what "luxuries" I can do without and what's worth it is the order of the day.

Hope you have a fine weekend and Himself has a good day, too!

  3. Yep, people did not live as long as we tend to do, now, and the populations were less. Not as many doctors, if someone began to fail, they just did…..no tests, meds to keep them sort of alive. It will always change, for good or bad. Come hell or high water…..someone will go on.

  4. Hot, hot, hot here in Central Texas.

We have two cars for now. About 6 years ago we scaled down to one which lasted for about 6 months! Now I drive much less than then but fear letting go of my car because I'm physically unable to drive DH's beast of a vehicle due to arthritis which has plagued me since my 30's and I would become totally dependent on others for my transportation which is not something I would wish for. My small SUV is easy to maneuver and to park and easier on the gasoline than the beast.

I'm convinced dementia (by many names) has been with us since the beginning of times. Alzheimer's is all over the place in my paternal family tree. In the 1960's when we went to a family reunion in North Carolina, my great-aunts & great-uncles that were afflicted were referred to by their many siblings as being 'touched in the head' as their mother had been. My paternal grandfather was the oldest of 14 and his dementia set in when he was in his mid-80's. My paternal grandmother was 13 years younger than him and her dementia set in her late 50's or early 60's. Her diagnosis was hardening of the arteries in her brain. Three of her six sons were afflicted with my father being one of those.

On the other hand, I had several paternal great-great-aunts & great-great-uncles that lived to 100 with a sound mind plus a great x8-grandfather that lived to 108 or 110 (per two obituaries I found). On his last day on earth he walked to a nearby town to get his gun repaired, walked back home and announced he was going to rest a little before eating something, laid down and didn't wake up. He outlived 3 wives which it took some time to sort out since some genealogy postings had him listed as Sr., Jr., III with each matched to 1 of the 3 wives while their was a son Jr. and grandson the III. Turns out my street name (since 1984) is the same as his surname which was not on my radar until the 1990's.

  5. Today our gas price 4.85 per gal. It's a rotten shame that it's like that. I feel very sad for the people that have to drive miles to get to work. My daughter said that when her tank is down by half she fills it and today it took 68.00. We drive a prius and don't have to fill up very often but we are retired and don't go very far. Have a great weekend Lynda!

  6. Regarding being wise...I heard on the radio, knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.
Yes, I remember my mom, and especially my grandma baking a lot. I remember rhubarb pie! Yum. I could never wait and scooped out a big bowl of the sweetened rhubarb from its pan on the stove.
Prices! OMG...everything! Utilities, gas, groceries, pet supplies. I feel bad for people who need to make a bigger purchase now days...like a car, tractor, or major appliance.
Beautiful here, too. Rainy this morning, but it's all gone now.
Hope you get some rest and relaxation this weekend, Lynda. Maybe all the pets and Himself will let you do that.

  7. My grandfather had Alzheimer's, that was in the 80's I guess. He always knew me but he didn't seem to know what decade he was in. Your gas prices are pretty awful. We are driving less these days too - can't afford to fill up and ours is only $4.65/gallon. It's pretty scary what's happening in our world these days!

  8. So much has changed...indeed.
Gas jumped to $4.90 a gallon yesterday in St.Louis. I fill up at half a tank since its so expensive. I feel sorry for folks who have to drive far for work. Those who now work at home are blessed.
My mom baked a lot but she also did yard work. Rhubarb custard and cherry custard pies, coffee cake and more.
I think dementia/Alzheimers has been around it was just called old age.
I hope you get a nap today. That house keeps you so busy plus everything else you handle. Find time to play your piano. We all love THAT
    Be well and safe
    Hugs

    Have a great day

  10. Gas here is around 2:15/litre but I heard it was more in northern Ont. I think Alzheimer's and dementia have been around for a long time. My grandmother had one of them in late 1970's or early 1980's. It was nice here most of today with a few sprinkles. Tomorrow is a different story. Have a good night.

  11. Our gas is around $4.89 right now. but they say it will hit $5 this week. It's crazy. I'm glad that we have pretty much everything within five miles of us.

I think back in the day when people had dementia and other things they were labeled "crazy" and put into mental institutions. Its sad that instead of trying to understand it, they choose to lock them up.

  12. I think things have changed so much it shocks everyone. Gas here is $5.00+ and there are just some things you have to drive to do. Gone are the days when I could ride a bike for miles...and I sold my Harley, darn it...........I agree with Paula, I think back then the dementia/alzheimers went to mental institutions or nursing homes and kept sedated.

  13. These inflated prices are hurting everyone. So sad. And I think that there was dementia and alzheimer's in the past....but people did not llive as long....so no one had to deal with it long term.....I lost my mom to Alzheimers......they call it the "long good-bye".
