It's been a wacky time! -The man who I live with , decided to have a bad day yesterday--and, yu know, at 93 yrs of age, I can't blame him!-
Why did I ever think I could house train a puppy? Why did I ever get a puppy, when I already am dealing with Himself who seems to need me more and more?--Lord love a Duck eh?----
So, this morning , I decided things have to change!---the large pee pads have to go------the dinger on the stove reminds me now, that Lopez' bladder needs to be taken care of--outside! ----- and he needs a pathway to the door--out of the nursery/kitchen--- (I must be crazy eh?-- I know you all are thinking that!)-
-So----now I have a bell on the inside of the front door, which I'm hoping I can train Lopez to hit with his paw to let me know to get him outside-- The gates are down into the kitchen , but there are still barricades up so he can't get into the living room area--yet--
It's a good thing that there is always a new day--- a brand new time to figure stuff out eh?- ---himself seems happier this morning-( -poor man eh, at his age having to live with a wife who seems to bring animals into our lives)---And that was another thing--After 5 yrs., last evening, Sushi, the cat who came in from the cold) decided to come downstairs --Maybe it was those Pee pads, yu think?--
To-night, Halloween night, is so far, going better---I do have some chocolate bars (which I haven't touched-yet!)- We probably will not have any children, so the candy will go to the Grandchildren---and--- Lordy Be! --- I am so happy that I have a better attitude --- I CAN DO THIS!
I wonder if any of these people had the stress that we go thru to-day?--(That little boy in the middle is my Grandfather!)
Wishing you the best
ReplyDeleteI think their stress was different from ours and in some ways worse. We have indoor plumbing and hot water for a shower. Electric and gas stoves, clothes washers and dyers . . .the list of things that make our life easier amazing. That said we have our own stress like pandemic and prices going through the roof. Breath.. .you got this.
ReplyDeleteThey may have had stress from other things, like not enough to eat. I agree about the prices going up too.
ReplyDeleteDid you think it would be easy training a puppy. LOL when I was a kid we had a basset but it stayed outside always. My Mom & Dad would never have thought of having a dog in the house or a cat either. Oh how the times have changed. Two dogs, a cat and a senior gentleman to take care of! Wow, talk about STRESS!
ReplyDeleteGood OR bad things come in 3's Lynda. Try hard not to be stressed out about any of them. If Fred is having a bad day, ignore him. If family or anyone phones you with their problems, listen & then ignore. Ask your vet the best way to toilet train your wee Lopez. I never put pee pads all over, tried to keep my Chi in one room with a pad, when she started to use it, I'd move it closer than closer to the door until she finally got the idea and would sit at that door when she wanted out.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything my dear friend, you do have a lot going on with you. The calmer you keep, the easier it will be to handle.
And Yep, don't get into the chocolate, you're doing so darn well!
Hugs to all of you!
With so much going on in your house it is no wonder that you are stressed. Today is a new day and things will be better. (((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteUh oh. Sorry Himself had a bad day. And Little Lopez having a bad day, too . . . . you had your hands full!
ReplyDeleteNope . . . . not thinking you’re crazy @ all. Just trying to manage Himself and Little Lopez!
And have to agree w/Gloria – I did use pee pads w/Miss Lilly. And I did exactly as she said, moved it closer and closer to the door I wanted her to use to let me know she had to pee. Took about a month, maybe a little more, and she did well. I like your idea of training Little Lopez to ring a bell on the door when he wants out. Hope that works!
OH MY! Even Sushi got into the act . . .. coming downstairs! That’s a good thing, though, right?!?
Breathe, breathe, breathe. It will lighten up!

Its a different source of stress today. I'm so sorry Lopez ๐ had a bad day and Fred too. You have tackled a LOT. I do know you are strong, competent and confident....it will all work out.
ReplyDeletePlease don't give in to the chocolate...please.
I'm sorry your brother is stressed but he's blessed to be able to share with you. Someone to listen and empathize can be cathartic.
Have a peaceful Sunday. Blessings to you dear Lynda
What a beautiful family! It is challenging to train a puppy but Lopez will eventually learn what to do. I'm sorry Himself was having a difficult day but I can only imagine how challenging it can be at 93. You are a very patient person and I know your family appreciates all you do! One day at a time, right! I woke up today and decided to change my attitude - so far it's working.
ReplyDeleteWhat a day for all of you. You made the choice, so you are dealing with it as best you can. The puppy will still need to have a pad place, winter will hit, and that tiny type of dog will choose to stay in…. Keep up with the trading. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteConsidering everything you are going thru why question your ability? You are doing fine. Go back to one pee pad and try to make sure Lopez uses it. The pee pads can slip and cause an accident if all over the room. You wouldn't want himself to fall on them. Try to stay patient with Lopez as he is still a pup. Overall you are doing great. Happy Halloween with fruit instead of chocolate!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's a big challenge for a "wise woman"! Sounds as though you have figured it out. Here's wishing you a peaceful Halloween evening, and a more normal arrangement for Lopez and Himself!
ReplyDeleteBreathe!
Today is going to be much better Lynda! It takes a while to train a puppy but Lopez will get the idea soon. Just have a relaxing day for a change. Happy Halloween! ๐ ๐
ReplyDeleteDear Lynda. You are such a strong woman. Admirable and always inspiring us. Yes, you can train wee doggie to use the bell. Years ago my son built a small wooden box with a buzzer attached inside to the spring loaded lid. We would first manually place Scruffy's paw on the lid to press down the buzzer by the door then immediately )ed him outside on least to pee spot. As soon as he peed hr got a snippet of hot dog. After more than 50 to 75 trials he got the idea and pressed the buzzer to go out to pee. We cut down on the rewards so he only got one maybe every two or three times he went out. Eventually no rewards and he still pressed the buzzer. The box and video of the dog using it won the school science fair for third graders. Never did use pee pads at all.Good luck with that adorable little critter(the dog, that is, not himself!). I look so forward to your posts every day. Thank you for them.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of stress for one day. The challenge of house training a puppy is the only thing keeping me from getting another one. I know you'll be successful though, you have lots of patience! Hope today is going smoother and don't eat the chocolate bars!! Happy Halloween ๐๐ป๐งก
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you had a really bad day yesterday. I am sure himself was frustrated with what he can't do and sad that he has no party or outings to look forward to in the future. He has to be hard for him to go from being active and people adoring him to not be able to go wherever he wants whenever he wants. Yes you drove him before but they were places he needed to be. He really needs a hobby. Something that will entertain him. Too bad the boys don't come and get him for a day.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if wee little Lopez sense himself being upset and it upset the little one because he didn't understand it. Hence having accidents all over the place. Just a thought. But I know animals can sense our moods.
I think getting the wee dog was a great move. Look at how much weight you have lost since you got him? Yes it is a lot of work to train a puppy but it is so worth it in the end. It is about as much work as having a new baby. Which little Lopez is at the moment. You can and will get him trained. Not sure you will be able to train himself.
Hide the candy until you see the grands.
Praying things will settle down for you ASAP
Happy Halloween
Lynda, think of your blessing...they are many. Himself happier, Sushi downstairs, more living space for Lopez, photos of family where you can identify the people...and CHOCOLATE!
ReplyDeleteWe won't get any kids, or very few, here in our senior building. Due to the virus, they won't be allowed in the building. A couple of residents will be down by the front vestibule watching (with candy) just in case.
Tomorrow a new month...a new beginning. {{{HUGS}}}
Enjoyed your blog.
ReplyDeleteEven the best trained dogs will have bad days. This, too, shall pass.

ReplyDeleteI am sure the ancestors all had lots of stress but in a different way. My ancestrors came over from Germany on a ship. They were pioneers of sort and made it to the center of the USA. Just glad they were strong and hardy!
ReplyDeleteWhy does life get so complicated when we get older?
ReplyDeleteHope things work out for you.
Maybe we do think you are crazy for bringing a puppy into the house at your and Himself's age. So what! You have to do what is right for you. Everything will settle down sooner or later. Maybe Lopez asked Sushi to come down and keep him company? (((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteYou so have your hands full. Here's wishing you a better day tomorrow.
