I am completely bushed!

-but--to-day---  the reason I am late blogging-- is because I have decided it is time to let little Lopez have the run of the main level--the kitchen--the dining room  and the living room --The problem however is big Beau lives with us, and Lopez continuously pesters Beau--and--- I am afraid that one bite from Beau , and we will end up at the vet-so--I sit with my spray bottle--and every time Lopez   jumps on Beau, I spray Lopez!.---  Lord love a Duck! --Any ideas from any of you will be very much appreciated!---

You see, Lopez screeched in his crate last night, which was beside my bed, from 9pm got 12-30pm--Now I bet there are a lot of you out there saying, "GET RID OF LOPEZ"-- I finally got REALLY angry with him--told him to go to sleep--  and he did! I believe he was exhausted! ---Son #2 the Air Canada Pilot thought that he maybe was cold----so, tonite, I shall keep a heater on very low--  It was minus 26C ---  and our room is drafty--I think he needs more exercise-which is pretty hard to give him, living in the kitchen only--thus the reason to increase his inside space.

Who would ever think that such a wee dog could cause so much chaos--??--

I hope that someone of you will tell me if I am right --handling this dog the right way--or not--I am bushed----and I think "Chihuahuas and angels are very far apart"

  1. Oh no. I hope no one tells u to get rid of The Wee Lopez. Think how much he must love you if he cried for three hours hoping to get out of crate and next to you IN YOUR BED. Sly little varmint! But sly implies some smarts. So keep up the good work and he will learn eventually. Puppies naturally play rough, so I am told.
It helps them learn social dog behaviors. If old dogs can learn new tricks, and I know they do, think how much Lopez will learn under your guidance, patience and SPRAY BOTTLE!

  2. Shoulda got a cat! Hee Hee Hee! Oh wait. You have one and think how long it took her to come out from under the bed but look at her now. It will all work out, just needs time.

  3. I think using the spray bottle when Lopez jumps on Beau is a great idea. Lopez is still just a puppy and puppies don't yet understand the rules. But the crying, is this a new thing? Can you play with him in the evening - tire him out a bit? These winter days are hard on our dogs. Daisy isn't getting enough exercise either! I'm praying for an early Spring.

  4. I used the spray bottle to teach Miss Lilly not to jump on me. She’s quite the jumper, which is part of her terrier genetics, but . . . she would jump to nab things out of my hands. She learned.

I found more exercise helps with Miss Lilly, too. She’s used to walks, but in our very cold weather, it’s not possible to take her on long walks.

AND FOR SURE, Miss Lily love to be warm. She has her baby doggie blanket and cudles down under it when she’s cold.

OF COURSE the answer isn’t to get rid of little Lopez! Just needs more training. He’ll get it.

    Hugs

  5. Lopez sigh. Seems there is always something with that dog.
Spray bottle idea sounds good. No rest for you as you have to watch what Lopez is doing....and at night he cries. Sigh
    Hope you get a nap.

  6. Oh, wee Lopez! Sorry for all the setbacks but that's normal when training a puppy?

  7. I am sorry that Lopez is causing you to loose sleep. Hope things get better when he has more running space.

  8. Patience is the only word that comes to mind for me.

  9. I have to laugh a little. When I was raising up my Cavapoo, Jake, I would NEVER let him out of his crate no matter HOW he carried on, UNLESS I thought he needed to potty. So, ignore him. Completely. As for Beau, I imagine he will put Lopez in his place, if need be. Let them work it out. I wouldn't let him have any other area than where you can see him, and you need to play with him a LOT until he tires himself out. Also, LOTS and LOTS of exercise. Treat him like any other dog. Take him to puppy kindergarten, teach him commands, give him rules, discipline, and affection last, like Cesar Millan used to say. I just used to LOVE watching that show, The Dog Whisperer. Make sure he sees you as the leader. When the weather gets nice, take him to a dog park, or on lots of walks. Chi's like walks too, if you teach them how. Don't pamper or spoil him!

Keep on a plugging away! ;) He's still SO young. My Jake is 3 now. He's calmed down a LITTLE. Just a little.

    1. I don't like the spraying. I advised Cesar's "Psst..." loudly while distracting him. Loved that and Jackson Galaxy's "My Cat from Hell." Actually any show about vets or zoos. Cheers.

  11. Just remember, if he gets his way by acting out he will continue to act out. Get him an extra blanket. And let him run around a bit in the daytime only. Beau will get fed up and show him who's boss at some point. If you have any type of puppy classes, take him - he needs it.

  12. If he rarely does that, or if at all, he may have been hungry or thirsty. Our yorkies will act out just to get up to drink. Hope tonight is better. He is doing great. Hang in there!:)

  13. I have had good luck in training my Chihuahuas. I have had 6 over time and I would say the only male I had may have been the hardest. Firm commands and lots of love, they respond well. They are fast learners too, once the full puppy stage is need the end. Daisy sleeps in bed with us part of the night when she is cold otherwise she goes to her kennel. I tell her to go to sleep and she does so immediately. My cure is to give them lots of love but being firm with training and lots of treat for positive behavior. I wish you lots of luck and lots of hugs!

  14. Just don't give in when he cries, because he will learn his antics work
and then you will have something else to deal with.....I'm with the lady who said give him another blanket and ignore him.

  15. Darlin', you are probably right about the angels and Lopez. I have a tee shirt hat has the silhouette of a kitty looking up...it says, "Some angels don't have wings. Some angels have whiskers." My friend has one with a darling little dog that says, "Some angels don't have wings. Some angels have paws." Well, both cats and dogs have paws and whiskers, but I am sure you get the idea.

I don't like the spraying. It may just teach him to be afraid of you. Have you ever watched The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Milan? He has a sound he uses. Kinda like a pretty loud, "Psst.." When the dog hears that, he knows it's a no-no. First couple times you may have to pull him back or wave a toy at him or something to distract him from the no-no, but I believe he will get it eventually.

    Good luck. I trust you will let us know. {{{HUGS}}}

  16. Does Lopez know the word NO? We warned you this would happen. It’s as if you had a baby all over again. Whomever talked you into getting a Chihuahua should be helping train Lopez now. Good luck…..

  17. Just now getting to this. You may be right, he may be cold as he's a little guy with very short fur. I'll be intererested to see how this turns out as I catch up reading your blogs. :D
