Memories of Honolulu-

Well, isn't she just the happiest?-- This is how we should feel!---but-----when it is minus 26.4C outside--and yu have to not only put your parka on, but the dog's parka-- winter in January in Northern Ontario is a challenge--The good thing is, is that it is not snowing--yet!-----and I don't intend to get groceries  to-day, even tho the bananas are looking kinda bad! ---

We have spoken to Son#2, the Air Canada Pilot already-He is sitting in Vancouver, en route to Honolulu this afternoon--He sent this cartoon--kinda how it is like on some planes I guess! -He said he has not experienced this yet!-

-We were laughing about when our daughter lived in Honolulu and Himself and I flew there when her 1st baby was born. I had hired a dog sitter to live in our house at home here-- We had Coal, a big black Shepherd ---who decided to look for me--unbeknownst to the dog sitter----and he was gone for a day-- Apparently he swam across the lake--had been spotted by a hiking group, who thought he was a bear---son #1 called to tell me that Coal was missing--

--and of course I wanted to get back home ASAP----but our daughter had not had her baby yet---  We stuck it out in Honolulu--and eventually Son#1 found Coal a day later in a marsh quite far from home--
Here I am , holding this baby, shortly after she was born---at our daughter's in Honolulu-- Of course, we missed our flights back home and eventually flew back--Honolulu to  Vancouver, then Toronto--then Sudbury--all "Stand-by"--and we managed to get on every flight-

- I learned a lesson from all of this--never plan to  visit your children before the baby is born-- Leave the whole "Birthing thing" to the parents and go later--when it is all over! -- Live and Learn, for sure!

Another lesson learned, was not to trust just anyone , with your pet--even an experienced Dog Sitter-- Family is so much better! Lord love a Duck! --another memory--

  1. What a memory. I think I would of panicked if I knew my dog was missing and I was 1500 miles away. Good thing son found him. At least you got to see new grandbaby.

  4. I promised to be there for my daughter when her first baby was born. She was due the 2nd week of January but mid-December I got a call from her husband saying they were in the hospital. I had to work with my boss to turn over all my events, booked a flight and I arrived a few hours after Faith came into the world. But after that I left the birthing to the parents and visited after the baby came along!!! Much less stress.

  5. Beautiful picture of you and your granddaughter! That was an eventful trip. I would have panicked if I thought my dog was missing 😕 So glad your son found Coal. Have a nice day...stay warm.

  6. Well, have to keep dancing to stay warm in this weather!

Good luck w/those bananas. I am finding that those bananas that are a little over-ripe are really good for sweetening up oatmeal when I make it. And this weather is cold, so . . . oatmeal is a good breakfast.

Oh my, Honolulu. Wonderful! WARM! BEACHES. Heaven. Sounds like you had quite the adventure going to be w/your DD in Honolulu those years ago! And Coal had himself an adventure, too!

Hugs, stay warm. Think warm thoughts! It helps . . . maybe a little!

  8. Ahhh memories. I would love to have vacationed in Hawaii when I was young. Now not so much. Guess somewhere along the line I got old.

  9. And I have to have a pet sitter when I have my trip to Hawaii that my son planned. We will be in the midst of having all the apts. here rehabbed. I will be in a temporary apt. while they rehab mine when I leave for Hawaii. My kitty will be in a strange apt. I plan to have them move the furniture there (it all goes out of my apt. into the temporary one) kinda the same. That temp apt. though is a handicapped accessible one. Mine is not. So it will be different for him. Lotsa stuff still packed in boxes sitting around, different smells, and me gone. I have a wonderful friend who has her own kitty going to come in several times a day for food, play, loving and littler. But it will not be me. Kitties do not like change in their environments! (except Sushi, but she probably wouldn't want to be back outside now that she has adjusted). Sigh.

Will I worry about him while I am visiting Volcano National Park, swimming in the ocean, playing with my grandkids (and hopeful a dolphin!)? Probably. Well, if not actual worry, I will be thinking of him often. Have tones of photos of him on my phone to look at.

Coal was adorable! It's said that our pets don't live as long as we do.

Love the photo of you and your grand daughter in Hawaii!

    Looking forward to Hawaii and spring when I return. {{{HUGS}}}

  10. Wow is that ever cold. Taking Lopez out in that is a real challenge I'm sure. It'll be nice for your son in Hawaii but Vancouver is getting snow and cold weather. Love the pictures. Hope he never gets one of those party flights that took off from Montreal recently.

  11. Hi Lynda. Loved the cartoon. Sure glad your son hasn't encountered passenger issues on his flights.
Beautiful memories and the picture of you with granddaughter is priceless. Yes, waiting until baby arrives is likely a better plan. Poor Coal. Likely you and Coal were both frantic. So happy Coal was found and you were able to relax and enjoy your family in Hawaii. Cant believe you made it home with all those standby flights.
Stay well, warm and keep dancing!

  15. I, too, learned that lesson as well not to stay too long. The trip was booked to be a bit before and a bit after. All in all too long really. Lesson learned.

  16. Lynda, the good thing about too much snow is you have to stay home for a day until the roads are cleared. So, I have been able to really enjoy catching up reading your daily blogs of wisdom!

  17. Looks like I was in a trance for a couple of days, but I remember about Coal being missing during that trip. Velcro woman lives... being torn in different directions by various loved ones and responsibilities. Still, we survived, didn't we?

    Onward!
