The perils of Thomas the Toad

I must tell yu about a friend of mine-- His name is Thomas- I met him out by my flowers, waiting to be planted , along the driveway--- We met , this Spring, usually in the evening, as I was watering the plants which were waiting for me to get into a flower bed---  Sometimes he would jump  out of the tray and  that would scare me--until I got to know him--  Yu see, Thomas is a Toad--about the size of the palm of my hand--but--extremely fat---

I figured out that he likes water---Sometimes he was on the grass--or the sidewalk---  but he usually was there  ----

Well, a disaster happened --this morning--- I came back from walking Lopez on the back road--and without looking down--and not thinking about Thomas-----  I STEPPED ON HIM-  Well, I felt a lump under my sneaker--   and looking down, there was Thomas , upside down , with his legs waving in the air--

The poor guy eh?---  I helped him  get right side up--- and he hopped into the garden---  no blood -(Do toads have blood?)--- and he has not been seen since--
I guess the moral  of the story is---=One should always look down--I am hoping that Thomas might appear this evening again--if he is not injured --It must be hard on a toad to have a big giant tromp on you--

`            So  I shall let you know if Thomas survived the big squish----kinda a sad story---
Did you know that toads  are toxic to dogs and cats who might bite them?----and if you get squirted by a toad , you must wash the area immediately as  whatever they squirt , is very toxic. Maybe I should have more respect  for Thomas--

To change the topic, Himself is at his Day Program--and Sadie, that cleaning lady, (really it's me!) is sitting here telling me to get busy--help her vacuum----- It rains here everyday it seems--good weather for toads I guess----and  good to be working on the  inside of the house for a change-
Is your day going well??---  Are you happy?---- Are you feeling like you could take on the world and avoid all the toads?- Are you feeling strong?---

  1. Sorry to hear about the accident w/Thomas. I hope he’s all right. Seems a good sig that he hopped away. HOPEFULLY!

Hope Himself has a good day @ the Lodge and Sadie (YO!) don’t work too

Started out a bit of a rainy morning (did rain overnight, too), but now, the sun is out and it is pleasant. I'm a happy camper.

HOPE you see Thomas later on.

  2. It's Kathy. I'm so sorry about Thomas. These toads are so small. Every now and then I see one in my gardens, usually closest to the house. Today is our Father Hennepin Days Parade. My daughter is coming with the 2 boys and depending on what they want to do, we will either watch from the window inside the house, or at the end of our driveway. It's a day that I dread all year long because they close our road from 6 - 8:30 pm which makes me feel really trapped! One year I had something going on at the gym, so I had to walk because I wouldn't have gotten home again. We live on the main road through town - I don't know why they can't do this parade on a less traveled road! There will be fireworks tonight. Tom and I used to go out and watch them but it seems like too much work nowdays! And little Daisy has a fit that all those strangers are walking around in her yard. The fair is set up down the road from us so at least we aren't bothered by that! Have a good day.

  3. Lynda, great blog and great story. Hope it turns out well for Thomas!
Maybe today you need a day off...with yard work done, etc. I love it when you say Himself vacuums. Today he will probably be to tired to do it after his program.
Sadie (who you know is really me...or us) just got my hard floors washed. Yesterday I did get laundry done, changed sheets, dusted...then I (we) gave out.
Today my check posts so there will be shopping. Only have one can of wet food for Lucky left.
Let me know when Lopez and Sushi get done with their check-ups. I know you will.
Beautiful weather here today. For a change it's sunny with very little breeze and no rain falling. We'll see how long that lasts.
Will check comments later hoping to find out Thomas came out again and is okay. Thanks for the education about toads. How do you tell the difference between toads and frogs? Is it just in the color they wear? Are frogs venomous, too?
So many questions! We really do learn something every day. Saved that meme, by the way.
Later, sis...have a great rest of your day! {{{HUGS}}} Love, Maggie

  5. Poor Thomas! Hope he's OK. And that you are!

Things are exciting here in Emberville, between the work on the main bathroom and trying to keep Ember on track. I'm very glad they won't be working over the weekend. At least that's my assumption. Nobody has said they were.

Hope Himself has a good day at his "lodge" and that Sadie does what she needs to do!

  6. Hi Lynda, oh how sad for Thomas and frightening for you. Hoping you see Thomas this evening
Great inserts today. Thank you for sharing.
Sunny and warm with AC back on. Sadie and I got house chores done early. Like 5am, as we both get up at 4am. Sure wish I could get my 6am wake up time back. I can't seem to force myself back to sleep after 4 gggrr. Hoping this passes soon.
I hope doc enjoyed lodge and is ready to vacuum or do a chore to help Sadie...if he's not too tired
Oh well, chores can wait.until tomorrow.
    Don't work all day, please.
Thanks for the info on toads. I had no idea about their spray
We NEED Thomas to eat mosquitoes. The cicadas are still around for another couple of weeks
Seems there are less as the noise is less and none have landed on me or gotten in.via an open.car window for the past week
Not as bad as your mosquitoes which sound absolutely dreadful.
Have a fantastic, rain free day.
    Hugs
    Marge/St.Louis
PS if you see Sushi, give her an extra pet from me. She's so prwtty.

  7. Hi Lynda: Sorry to hear about Thomas. I saw some toads when I lived up north but never touched them. Back here in the city my dog picked one up on a walk but it was already dead and didn't let anything out to hurt her. Glad himself went to daycare today before the weekend. Hope he will be in a good mood all weekend. You sure are getting a lot of rain. We're getting quote a bit but nowhere near what you're getting. Have a good night. Hugs Brenda
