"Keep Yer Chin UP!"

IT IS MONDAY--  Holy Cow! ---It's looking "mighty much" like it might snow---  or rain-- It is only minus 3C but, it feels like minus more!---There is no sun shining- I thought we might go for bananas but--Himself said, "Why not to-morrow?"----so, to-morrow it will be! -I cannot go  on Wednesday, as I have that "80 yr old Driving test " to go to----In Canada one must take a written test, every 2 yr after the age of 80 -I believe there is an eye test also--Next month I will be 80----How on earth I ever got to that age, I'll never know!

Himself is doing well  to-day--He was good yesterday also---It makes me wonder if that flu shot was the reason he sorta lost his mind, a day after that shot--  Maybe it made him tired?--- And when one is tired, he perhaps  kinda "lost his mind"--????  Who knows?--I really am guessing about all of this.

I have a question to you all?- How are you handling Christmas this year?-- Himself and I are on a fixed income-----and--we usually spend a small fortune over Xmas, and we do not have that "small fortune " anymore--Are you "giving" only to your Grandchildren?--Not their parents?--Are you buying gifts , or gift cards?-Are you making gifts--Are you "gifting " at all?--Lord love a duck! It is Xmas---so, how does one handle  the season?--- Maybe you have decided  to just "go for it" and bite that bullet in January?----  (Lord love a duck! )----

But, it could be Doomsday after "going "all out" with the January budget---  (Can you tell that I do adore cows?)---

Anyway, We shall load up on bananas to-morrow----Perhaps I shall get a nap in this afternoon, with my VERY good book--  (When I finish this book, I will tell you the name of it-)-It is the best book I read in ages!

I hear Himself with the Dyson, vacuuming the main level-- We have a Dyson on each level of this house--Himself is extremely good at keeping them clean and running-- and if one stops working he will order a new part for that one----plus, I find that company are excellent at mailing out the necessary part--which helps us, as we live in the middle of no-where, sorta near the North Pole---  (not too many stores!)_

I am rambling here--Just remember how fortunate we are to be a part  of this day--even if we do not see the sunshine, we must carry the torch for all those who went before us--all our kinfolk ---like yer Mom --and yer Dad-- Big hugs going out to all-- so--until to-morrow--as Dad used to say, "Keep Yer Chin Up!"

  1. Glad himself is feeling better. It very well may have been the shot. I love Dyson. I have the air purifier and a cord vacuum that is older and my beloved cordless one! Everyone must have a cordless one! I keep Christmas as simple as possible with gifts. Also, with postage costs, I make sure to keep them small! I always want to be done by my birthday on the 10th so I can sit back and enjoy! I know you are a wonderful Sagitarian as well!🎂🎉 We will have a great month! Can’t wait to hear more about your book! Have a fabulous week!:)

  2. Best wishes on your driving test. Christmas gifts only to grandchildren this year but to their parents something cheap and familiar like a 2023 calendar, a box of homemade soaps, luckily we only have 3 couples to give to. So happy and admire that your Himself still vacuums! Have a lovely day.

  3. To answer your questions about Christmas. I stopped sending out cards last year, the stamps are a terrible price! Instead, I give each of my children a card with either money or gif cards in them. I don't give to grandchildren, they get lots from their parents. As for my great grandchildren, I put money in their Education Fund in the bank. That's how I do my things Lynda.

I'm surprised at your age! I will be 88 on my next birthday. We do really well for a couple of senior, seniors, eh? :)

A smaller home in town should be your next project, there is too much work where you live now. A nice yard for Beau and Lopez to romp in and you can walk them safely in town.

Many hugs and much love coming to you and Fred. xoxo

  4. I'm glad himself is feeling better and I bet you are right about that flu shot. I don't usually get one because it always makes me feel yucky for awhile! Good luck with your driver's test. I don't think we have that law in the US but I do take a test every 3 years to get a discount on my car insurance. Hope you hae a great day!

  5. I am cutting back this year . . .the children are grown and buy their own things. I have one granddaughter who will always get something from grandma as she also only has one. My SIL's mother died a few years ago. Al and I don't but much for each other either . . .he likes his Steelers calendar every year and some nonpareil candies. . . maybe new gloves. Sun is out here but it is cold . . . right about 32F

  6. Rather than saying what I'm doing this year for Christmas (cutting back), let me share a story. The last year of my grandmother's life, she, too, was "cutting back". This was evident in the Christmas gifts we received. I got one hand towel. Not a set of towels, a single hand towel. In my favorite shades of green. I was in my twenties, a newly wed. She passed away the following Spring.

I am approaching the age she was then. I still have, use, and cherish that towel. When love is attached, size and shape do not matter.

You love your family. They know this. They will understand.

    Hugs & much love!

  7. Well, good luck on your banana expedition, and of course, good luck w/the driving tests.

Hmmmm . . . you could be onto something w/Himself’s mood after the flu shot. It does make one tired and that is never helpful for the mood.

Well, we are just giving a gift card to each kid and that’s how it goes. Fixed income here, too. And it has to last so we can take care of ourselves! Yes, have to be mindful of the budget.

You have so many grands, I’d say . . . gift card for the grands and they can use it for or towards something they want or need.

Glad that himself is vacuuming! Good for him, helpful for you!

  8. Happy Monday!
We only give gifts to the grandchildren. My husband and I exchange stocking stuffers. Lol. My friends and I always go out for a Christmas lunch to celebrate. We do buy for my Mother in-law. On Christmas Day the family exchanges white elephant gifts and can only spend up to $10.
    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  9. Lynda, we love it when you ramble. That's why we follow you!
A Bit warmer here today and sun shine for a good part of it. Tomorrow it's supposed to get above freezing.
I just bought bananas! And ice ream and blueberry muffins.
Christmas? Probably just my daughter and her family who live close by. I see them in person. Wish I could give to all 4 of my kids, their spouses and children. They do understand, though, that I am in subsidized housing with a very limited budget. I am lucky, though...I am not quite poor. Just over the limit for getting federal and state aid. I did qualify for free wireless internet. That is great.
Can't wait to hear what your book it! I may just get it for my Kindle. Gave up on deciphering The Farmer's Almanac. I should have just returned it.
    Sigh. Live and learn.
I am glad Himself is better and that he helps with the chores around the house.
    Pets must be good today. That's great, too. My baby is meowing for attention, but it's time that I meditated! He will climb up on my lap, snuggle into the fleece blanket I put over my lap for him and purr...{{{HUGS}}}

  10. With a huge family, we draw names. Adults draw adults. Kids draw kids.

  11. Glad to hear Fred is having a better day. I like hearing that he vacuumed. Yay
Christmas....money for son, his GF and her 2 sons. Amount will be less. I may pick up a kitchen thing for GF...or not. Cant be as generous as prior years. Just can't do it. You have a lot of grandkids so maybe its time to scale back to just grandkids or draw names?? Or white elephant exchange scramble. I'm only sending a very few cards. I love to send them and receive them but most people no longer bother. Things change....part of life.
Have a great day. Enjoy your book and maybe a nap or play your piano.
Please ramble....love learning about you and your family.
    Hugs

  12. Glad to hear that you are having a good day and that your husband is doing well and being helpful. As for Christmas, I would not overspend and have to deal with the consequences. I like the idea of drawing names, but it may be a little too late this year to do that. Maybe you could just do some baking for the families that live locally and send a family gift to the ones that live farther away, a game, puzzle, or gift certificate to the movies, a museum, or something. Sometimes you can just buy a gift certificate online and have it sent via email to the recipient
which saves you postage. Get creative and set a budget. Very few of us really need anything, we just want to know that we are thought of and cared about. Good luck to you. It will be here before we know it.

  14. Don’t be afraid of the flu shot, it will be more helpful than a bad mood day, which Himself has had often without the flu shot! Good luck with that 80 year driving test! Hoping the banana trip is worthwhile .

  15. Hubby and I get one large gift for the house, like a needed new mattress one year and then just filling of the stockings of little treats for the day. I got a little book about the area that we live in for our under-5 grandsons and give a small gift card to just my daughters as they know we are on a pension. I send out a few cards to family and friends but that is it. We decorate as we love but no more than that and we make our favourite dinner for ourselves as the kids all live too far.
