A new day to get it right!

Yesterday I decided to resume my exercise routine--outside--I walked to the corner and back --and later in the day, I did a few light weights--and--guess what?--I GAINED weight to-day--only .5 of a pound but still-- the ol' body does this when one begins to move more--I do know that. I walked this AM, with wee Lopez this morning--  So, I am stronger than my strongest excuse--for now! I know , ---everyday is a battle in my mind--

To-morrow is St Patty's Day----(There is not a Chinese Day--but there is Chinese New Years!)

It is mild--well, around zero--with rain expected , which will help to melt the snow, but will make it very icey to walk. The big meltdown is beginning in the North--

I read all your comments and suggestions on giving Lopez away--but--geez--it will mix him up--I have to take Sushi, the cat who came in from the cold, to the vet this afternoon, so I will have a talk with him about this crazy Chihuahua. Does everyone have problems  training him to do his business outside--or is it just me?-- Next month, he gets neutered--Will that help him or make it worse?

I saw this and thought it was  interesting-- I write because I enjoy reading all yer comments--also, I don't feel so alone in all the crazy stuff that goes on in life--just by sharing it all, makes me see that we really are all the same---
One day it will be Spring--  I already hear more birds around ----  I shall try to be kind to Himself---  He did not have the best night--seems , this dementia thing is worse at nite--Hugs to all--

  1. Funny you should mention hearing the birds again . . .I noticed that myself yesterday morning on my walk. It is raining a little today but our snow is melting fast. I can see the grass peaking through. I really think you should start a little notebook of when himself has bad days and what he did or ate that day . . . it may help put some clarity to the triggers for him.
Only you will know when you have had enough of the wee dog . . .or success with him. It is too bad that you are having such a time with him.

  2. Lynda, it is up to you, with Lopez. Assume that it will always be this way, can you tolerate that? If so, then keep him. If the answer is no, give him to your son. Dogs acclimate well. They only live for today. You could also do it for a trial period, see if your son can get him 100% housebroken.

Also, you have the summer to get him used to going out more, walking and such. If it were me, I'd probably keep him through the summer.

I don't know his eating schedule, and if you take him out on a schedule. If you free feed, don't. You need to know when he needs to eliminate, and go out at those times. I feed my Cavapoo twice a day, when I get up, and around 5. He needs to poop 3 times a day. When I first get up, when I get home from work at 5, and at 8 pm. If you miss an opportunity to get him out when he needs to, then pop him in his crate until you can.

But, ultimately, only you know. And maybe you're just venting, and that is fine. :)

  3. Oh, yes, the birdsong. And because my son's GF has a dad who is really into birds, I've been learning a lot from him about the birds. Mourning doves, he writes, do not have to lift their heads to swallow, unlike other birds.

There, new trivia for the day! If he's pulling my leg, I will never know!

Love to you, your whole family, and the critters you take such good care of. I rather suspect little Lopez will adapt to whatever choice you make regarding his future!

  4. The body wants to make sure you’re not starving yourself! OF COURSE you’re not, but the body has to figure that out. It will!

Hope Sushi’s visit goes well. And good to get the vet’s perspective on little Lopez. Hmmmm . . . my experience w/Mr. Spot (RIP) was that neutering made him more cooperative.

Does Himself have Sundown Syndrome??? My parents went through that. Confused @ night, but mostly ok during the daylight hrs.

  5. Saw 4 robins on Sunday so I guess spring is just around the corner. Calling for +18C tomorrow. That should take care of a lot of the snow.

  6. The birds are very active and loud down here. We have 70 degrees and sun today. Saw a few daffodils. SPRING will get to your house.
Don't worry about .50 pound...it will soon GO. Be careful walking outside. Good on you and the weights too.
Lopez, well Linda thats your decision. Hoping the vet can shed some light. Lopez is definitely more than I could tolerate. Its been a long time and he still doesn't have it right...unfortunately. Perhaps a change would be good for all of you but only you can make that choice.
Sorry to hear himself was "off". Hoping today is much better.
Sending love and hugs dear lady.

  7. Lynda, you are correct...we have some differences here, but in Spirit we are all part of the One. It's like a wave on the ocean is individual but still part of the whole.

It's new to me that you're thinking of giving Lopez away. You both would really miss him. Hope the vet has some good advice...

Does Himself get enough exercise to make him tired by bedtime? Hope he has a better night tonight.

Also hope says Sushi is going well. After all, she is purrfect in your eyes, right?

    Love the "I write because..." Me, too. {{{HUGS}}}

  8. It must be a hard decision to get rid of Lopez. You have had him for quite a while now and I imagine you have grown to care for him. Maybe he will get better as the weather gets warmer and he can spend more time outside. your day.

  9. Perhaps your son would have better luck with Lopez...as to the neutering, I have no idea if that will help or not.

  10. Perhaps at least you would have a bit less of stress. And yes, sundowners dementia is always worse at night. Sending lots of hugs
    and love your way.

  11. The birds are letting you know that winter's soon going to be totally over. Glad you had a walk outdoors. Have a great Wednesday.

  12. I read what you wrote as "everyday is a battle WITH my mind " especially along the line of being stronger than my strongest excuse...:D

  13. When you start to exercise, the body holds onto water, up to 2 lbs or so, so it's not "real" weight gain in the sense of fat or muscle. Don't let it get you down!

  14. I hope Sushi does well at the vet today. Better to rehome Lopez now then trying to do it later on. If he would have come into your wishes 16 years ago, it would have been easier all around. No one our ages has babies now, either. It is tough to have so many things to deal with, now, and none of us are getting any younger. Rehoming is not getting rid of him. Just settling him in somewhere else, you get to choose different conditions. Stressful times now, and more coming up. Take care of you.

  15. Lynda, I've had two Chihuahuas. The first wee one trained easily and within two weeks. She was just 2 months old and fully trained by me.

Second one . . . uh uh, nothing we did or tried worked with her, she simply could not be house broken.

In your situation, I'd say it would ease some of the tension you feel within your life and you'd find life more peaceful and serene without him, he would adjust to a new home, believe me about that.

Enjoy today, weather will soon warm up and then the bugs come out, lol. Think Spring!!
Love to you, Fred and your furry babies. xoxo

  16. You are very strong - so don't worry about it. And I'm sure you will get things worked out with Lopez! Congrats on getting back to some exercising/using weights. Hope the vet had some ideas/recommendations for you. With himself, perhaps you should go up to one pill per day instead of half? Stay safe and be careful walking if it's icy.

  17. I hate to hear that people are telling you to give Lopez away. I would take him in a heartbeat. I have had and trained 8 Chihuahuas and it does take some time but well worth the loyalty! We got a rescue 12 yrs. ago that we could not touch. The owners put her in the kennel and we took her to our house, opened the kennel door inside and she disappeared. She had never bee socialized nor been outside in her 13 months of life before we took her. Didn't take me too long and she can hardly stay off peoples laps, love camping and riding and is not frightened of being outdoor. In fact she loves the outdoors. She was my most challenging train but she is a wonderful dog that everyone loves! Hang in there and keep the commands simple and positive. Little treats work well too.
