Halloween happiness---

Yes, It is Halloween-all the ghosts and goblins will be out!----  The picture above is my daughter's front steps, in Ohio---

Do you  enjoy Halloween?--I am just asking because I never did---even as a kid--- My Mom was never into it--never helped us figure out a costume-- I cannot remember the house being decorated--- I believe when she was growing up, it just wasn't a big thing----- I do remember trying to figure out a costume, as a kid---  and those days, the stores were not set up too much  with Halloween things--so--mostly we were ghosts --or a tramp-- an old man---I do remember getting a lot of apples when we went "trick and treating"---My own children , I think, enjoyed Halloween--

And--Have yu eaten most of the candies you bought for Halloween?---I hate to admit it, but---I did eat one chocolate bar -----  We do not get many children out in the bush, where we live--In fact we usually get no children--but--the chocolate bars will go to the Grandkids in town--(if I do not eat them!)

I do hope that to-day,  you do make yourself a priority --It is necessary--Maybe Sadie could have the day off--I have no errands to run--

You know. I have come a long way with Himself and his "Old timers"--Yesterday he went to his Daycare---which he enjoyed-They had made his day special  too by singing to him--plus he had a hot meal there- they gave him a huge cupcake for his Birthday-
-Taking him to his Daycare helps me also-- You know, by seeing him return home happy---  so much more like he used to be---  makes me happy--  I feel the weight of his "OldTimers" released  in my mind, somewhat--

-Enjoy the moment to-day-----Maybe dress up to answer the door--  Below is a picture of a good friend and myself, going to work in the tuck shop at the hospital--many moons ago--We had so much fun that afternoon--I shall never forget it--
Sometimes acting a little silly will take years off our life!
Here were --myself--"the flapper"--with Himself--"Mr T"--many moons ago--
Halloween was so much fun!

Whatever you do to-day,  I hope that you will be happy---Smile----  Be good to the wee witches and goblins at your door------  We have SO SO much to be thankful for---and------  stay strong--because we  must!

  1. Happy Halloween, Lynda! Our trick or treat in my little Ohio town was Thursday night. It was cold and rainy. I didn’t get candy because I knew the weather was not good. I am not much into it myself but love the kids in their costumes. I don’t remember us having costumes. I do remember as a young teen dressing up at my friend’s house as a gypsy. I then went to the door at my house and walked in and my mom didn’t know me. Lol Your daughter has a beautiful, festive front porch. I am SO happy Himself had a great day and a big cupcake. Yes, that must make your heart happy to see him happy! Have a terrific Tuesday and have at least another chocolate bar to celebrate!:)

    2. Hi, Marti here. I LOVE Halloween, more so now than when I was actually a kid. When I was a kid, I had glasses, and I remember not being able to wear them because I usually had a mask on, and not being able to see. And, sometimes freezing to death b/c you couldn't wear a coat over your costume. Now, the whole month of October, I watch scary movies every weekend, decorate the house up, decorate outside, tastefully, b/c it's a condo, and just love everything about it! Today at work our usual little oddball group didn't dress up, didn't do anything, but next door at the Admin building we were invited over for hot food, and everyone there was dressed up. THEY really know how to have a party! Since most of the people I work with at Goodwill are handicapped in some way, we have a Down Syndrome girl/woman that does shipping, SHE brought in a bag of candy for us. We hardly ever see her, and she doesn't talk much, but SHE made it fun for me. No one else, ba ha ha

  2. Happy Halloween, Lynda…love your pumpkin/kitty cat insert!! I decorate indoors and out, lots of good memories trick or treating as a child! We now live in an adult community, so no little goblins….So glad Himself had an enjoyable daycare yesterday … I’m all for whatever makes your life easier! AND, let’s all try to live in the moment by not inviting worries into our last day of October! ❤️ Eissa7

  3. Happy Halloween
I loved Halloween as a kid..
planning the costume and getting candy. I remember not liking the houses that gave out apples. Today, no one hands out apples. We live in a villa community so no kids come here. I didn't buy candy as I'D be the one eating it.. its in the 20sF so kids may not go out.
How sweet that himself got a cupcake and more birthday wishes
I'm so glad he goes to center and glad he stayed for lunch. The interaction with others is good for him and the break is good for you. Love hearing he comes home in a good mood. 👍
Your daughtets house is festive. Halloween is a big deal in St.Louis.
Keep that fluffy, white stuff up there please.
Give Sadie a half day 😊
Play your piano and stay warm.
Off to the gym and pick up bananas.
    Hugs

  4. Love the photos, Lynda. Especially the one of you and Himself "many moons ago."
Halloween wasn't much for me as a child. For my kids, it was different. They had costumes, parties at school (back when they could bring homemade treats), went trick or treating...the 'whole 9 yards.' I remember one time taking them to a very affluent part of town. At the first house the man asked them, "Do you want a radio or a back pack?" I guess he was in advertising for his job. The other houses gave huge candy bars. Unfortunately, that was the last year my daughter wanted to go. Her older brother had already stopped. The 2 younger boys just wanted candy. They were not particular.
Of course, my husband and I raided their stash when they were down for the night. Not so much they'd notice. I attempted to ration the candy they ate, and made sure they brushed their teeth thoroughly afterwards.
Where I live now, we get almost no kids. Before covid, we did. We'd all sit down in the vestibule with bags or bowls of candy for when the kids came. Such fun watching them. The tiny ones are so adorable. Most parents ensured the kids thanked us. If they didn't, I'd pipe up and say, "You're welcome" to remind them.
I am determined to exercise today, even a little. The ribs on my left are still very painful. I will ride my bike slowly at first, then see how it goes. Will do some therapy exercises, too.
Maybe no nap for me. I sleep too long and wake up with sleep inertia (a new phrase I learned), kinda groggy.
Need to order drugs from the VA. May go out shopping, though kitty litter is all I need.
Dontcha wish Himself could go to daycare every day?
    Woke up with the cars in the lot lightly dusted with snow. Already? Ufdah! {{{HUGS}}}

    1. No--- coz it is a hassle to drive him into town and back home everyday--This way it is better and he wont get tired of it-- We had about 4 inches of snow today--wet heavy stuff-- Sorry to hear that yu are sore--Did yu fall??_-I had a nap but I did not want to get off the sofa--That is what happens eh?--
Yes we bought candy bars--and if no one comes Ill give it all to the Grandkids-- Nice to hear about your part of the world--Always is--Hugs-- Lynda

  5. Halloween has sure changed over the years. When I grew up you had to "do a trick" to get the treat - sing a short song, ask a riddle, etc. Now it is just gimme, gimme, gimme. The drive-thru treat places get to me = at least let them walk to the door. Guess I'm just grouchy in my old age but I don't turn on the light as it is too hard to constantly get up and answer the door with the dog. Proud of myself that I didn't even buy any candy this year.

  6. Happy Halloween Lynda. I've never been much into Halloween even as a kid. Don't like dressup! Glad himself enjoyed daycare yesterday and that he was celebrated for his birthday. You automatically feel better when he does. It's go for both of you. We don't get many kids coming around. I just buy some white cheddar popcorn as it's a bit healthier and I can eat some leftovers as I like it! Enjoy whatever kids you get coming around.

  7. Enjoyed the pictures of you and himself dressed up! When I was young, 1950‘s, just some dressing up, a party by the Lion‘s Club men, a bag of treats and fruit, did not go to many homes. Nowadays, adults have taken over, another excuse to drink and act stupid until police are involved…. Grandniece is 12, says this is the last year he goes out. It is too cold in Texas, strangely so. Won’t take long. Take care there. Glad Himself had a good time!

  8. It's Kathy. We live on a very busy road so we've never gotten many kids, only a few when our children were young. I never even buy candy anymore and I leave the house dark now. For a few years we went to my step-son's home and did Halloween with them - that was fun but now the boys are too grown up! My little grandsons are both going to be batman and the older one is old enough to be excited - but it's so cold today and we had snow overnight that isn't melting! I only remember enjoying Halloween when I was really young and my Dad took us around while my mom handed out the candy! I'm so happy to hear that Himself was celebrated yesterday. It's so good for him to get out with other people! I'm glad he's no longer resisting it. And I love that seeing him happy makes you happy! Enjoy the rest of your day - I hope you are taking it easy today, you've earned it!

  9. Love the pumpkins on your Dd’sstepes!

Yes, back in my kid days you were a hippie, beatnick, angel, clown, hobo.

Snowing so very glad no errands to run today.

I am soooooooo glad for you that daycare is helping Himself so much . . . . AND you! That is a blessing.

Yes, for sure sometimes acting silly definitely lifts the spirits and ‘de-ages’ you. Love your picture from ‘way back when!’ You and Himself are adorable as a flapper and Mr. T!

    Happy Halloween

  10. Happy Halloween, Lynda! I was like you, Mom not "into" it much, and I was not creative with costumes myself. I do remember going as a "tramp" sometimes, and one year I had an honest to gosh Cowgirl outfit (got it for my birthday the year before, and loved it so much).

One thing I noticed about Halloween that my big sister could make her candy last for-ever, and I would gobble mine down in one big binge. Face it, there was a reason for my weight problems!

This is why I try to delay acquiring it. I bought some today, but let's be honest, I bought some last Saturday and had already been dipping into it, so I really did need to buy more today. Some years I'm been "serious" about controlling my own eating and just not bought any, and left the lights off and hid from the door bell ringers.

The past few years the weather's been mild and I could hand out the candy outdoors, during pandemic times. This year, not so. It's chilly. So I've put all my landing and porch lights on, and anybody who makes it to the porch will get a treat (or two, or three).

  11. My little town has trick or treating on the Main Street and everyone comes down to see the costumes and get treats. I handed out candy tonight at one of the stores and I would guess I gave out candy to at least 600 people of all ages and the crowd probably numbered over a thousand. It is so much fun. A cold night, but we all survived and everyone went home with a sugar buzz. People are so clever with their costumes.
